You know, for once it is kind of nice to wait for a game...pre-ordered from Newegg to get twelve bucks off the price and am not stressing like everyone else as the game probably won't arrive until Thursday. Most of the dust should have settled by then.

That's the way of life :D, thus been a bit horny about this game since they showed the tech demo, I should have learned of Dead Island no 0-day purchases :P

Seems like John D. Carmack II did not get this game right like it should give him a few moments to get his team together to patch this OpenGL bug, also dont stress ID Software or Bethesda like you do, Ati and Nvidia has are big tile failures in delivering proper drivers in time before release.

Sorry but no. Those drivers and the hardware they run on have been out for ages. It's just complete disregard for the PC players that kept them from trying this game on more than two computers. AMD and Nvidia might be able to optimize the drivers, and they might be able to fix some of the ID/Bethesda poor programming, but it's not their fault. That's like blaming Dell for Windows Vista. No dice.

It's a big failure of ati to rush out their drivers in the last moment also, same applies to nvidia, especially when they preform ass bad in every game other than Rage. Back to 10.5 feel some real smooth fps. For now it's catalyst ai not getting the right extensions, and what we know ID aint some tards when it comes to programming.

I used to mod drivers alot, and you can see how much typical ati fails in general to make improvements for some games, instead they make it worse and you have to roll back to your old comfy drivers.

Worked for me! Running smooth at 60 fps with no stutter and after some tweaking the texture pop is hardly noticeable (not enough to ruin my experience). The texture artifacting this causes on the other hand is horrid.

This was great. I followed the instructions to a T and now I have huge black square pixels all over the place. Do NOT follow this fix.

I tried the instructions but as soon as I reboot it says my video card drivers has crashed but recovered. When I try to run Rage, it crashes again and recovers. It never let me back into the game.

It says that in the main topic that you will get the squares it's an easy fix if your eager to play the game a bit.

Just wanted to chime in, same here. Win 7 x64. Crashes and recovers, had to undo the fix. Radeon HD 6870, rage perf drivers.

Try this:

Well I'm sure it was a combination of all the things people have posted but I was still getting the stuttering when others had it resolved. So I looked further and sure enough I had a corrupted cache file.

I fixed this by... right clicking on RAGE and going to properties then to LOCAL FILES TAB Then Verify Integrity of GAME CACHE.

FIXED! AWESOME!

To get rid of the artifacts take a look at my thread:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1237017-total-ati-fix/
Use the standard 11.9 driver, disable AI, VSYNC on and some other things (check link)

FOR ANY1 HAVING CRASHES DURING MAP TRANSITIONS.. TRY THIS (WORKED FOR ME)

elo.. ive tried all the fixes/drivers etc etc and its running super smooth and looks nice now
but i still get the crashing 4 out of 5 times during the transitions.. and it never let me go into mutant bash tv until i just by chance tried something else.. might not work for every1 but it seems to work all the time for me now..

what i do .. just before i go into a map transition i quick save it (usually doesnt crash) then enter the new map (it crashes) then instead of reloading my save i go continue campaign and it seem to work evertime.. its like besides the quicksave i did i stores some other info telling the game im on the OTHER map now just b4 it crashes.. so when i continue campaign it doesnt have to do the transition..its like i was already on the map kinda of thing.. so it doesnt ever seem to crash :)

not sure if it will work for every1 else but thought i post it just incase it helped 1 more person heh

cheers

It took me a while but I eventually figured out my problem that would make Rage unstartable. Now the game simply freezes up during the first mission when you are taking out some bandits. Freezes up within the same 5 minutes of play time all the time. Then just goes to a white screen followed by windows trying to find a solution to the problem. Anyone have similar issue? Even better, anyone know a fix?

Well I still get the freezing and stuttering but not nearly as often...so far anyways. This is what I put in my rageconfig.cfg. Granted I have a 560GTX ti so this might not work with cards with less than 1GB VRAM.

Steam Launch Options: +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024; +set com_allowConsole 1; +set com_skipIntroVideo

Oook. Well I *was* having the stuttering issue.

This sounds crazy to me, (I'm a electrical engineer at a Fortune 500 company) but I swear all I did, was swap out my E8400 for a Q9550. I overclocked the Q9550 to 3.6GHz, made sure it was stable, and then I started Rage. And it worked, fine. 1920x1200 with the RageConfig file from FusedCore from the Steam Forums.

I did nothing with the drivers. I'm still running 11.9, didn't run the "Rage Fix drivers" either.

So in short:

I went from

Win7 64bit
E8400 @ 3.4GHz
8Gb DDR2-800
MSI TFIII 6950
Cat 11.9 drivers

with really bad stuttering, every 2-3 secs with maybe 2-3 seconds of being able to move to

Win7 64
Q9550 @ 3.6GHz
8Gb DDR2-800
MSI TFIII 6950
Cat 11.9 drivers

with no stuttering whatsoever. I swear that's the ONLY thing I changed.

What the hell?

Another thing I just noticed playing the game, my cores are no longer saturated and staying at 100%. They fluctuate around 20-75%, so I guess this is normal, where before, it clearly wasn't.

That should provide it

Can you elaborate a bit? Do you mean that the checkbox labeled "Disable Catalyst A.I." does not actually disable Catalyst A.I.?

Here is what I see: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8613775/BGS/CatalystAISetting.jpg

Using Catalyst version 11.9, it would appear that I can either "Disable" Catalyst A.I. by checking the box, or uncheck the "Disable" box and switch between either "Standard" or "Advanced" - am I missing something here?

Hello everyone,
after updating the ATI Catalyst from 11.8 to 11.9 I also get (more) graphical glitches. With 11.8 the streaming of textures who come into visibility are blurry for a short time, this didn't always happen, to be exact.

After updating to 11.9 I also get unfilled polygones flashing up on the screen. With the 11.9 drivers the 2d interface does also disappear and reappear constantly.

I just wait for a patch, since I (currently) do not want to reinstall the drivers, anyone else should propably downgrade to the 11.8 drivers.

[EDIT]
Note that the ATI 11.9 drivers do crash, without the user doing anything special.
If you search google there are tons of games who get problems with that driver version (including windows).

Same issue here, no matter what I do from the various fixes and workarounds I cannot get rid of the freezing and it happens immediately after the intro movie and the pod begins to open, a second of movement followed by 5 seconds frozen, I am also using an E series core 2 duo CPU percentage is at 100 constantly but my memory is barely being used and my GPU is practically idle. This must be related to the CPU I would have guessed it was something to do with caching but I've tried all sorts of tweaks to try and get it working smoothly and it's completely unplayable, it's such a shame I was really looking forward to this game but god knows how long it will take for a fix to be implemented especially as there hasn't even been any acknowledgement of this issue so far.
