FreezingStuttering Issues

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:17 pm

So bascially it's "Catalyst Ai" causing all the problems with the game freezing every second, to fix this navigate to.

Open Catalyst set Catalyst AI is set to "High Quality" and uncheck "Enable Surface Format Optimization", close down Catalyst Control Center, go into task manager end MOM.exe/CCC.exe

Go to C:\Users\\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE

Open up Profiles.xml with Notepad or whatever

set to

Save close make sure it's read only. (Impotent)

Goto this destination and run the file

C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\MOM.exe

Reboot! NOW DONT TOUCH CATALYST CONTROL CENTER OR ANYTHING WTIH ATI THEN IT MESSES UP.

But by doing this you will have alot of texture artifacts, such as wrong texture at wrong places, in my example it showed the mega texture in small bits and black bits for other textures. But overall the LOD is 100% working and texture loading, but only on the texture that ain't messed up.

This is confirmed with 10.5, 11,5, 11.8 and 11.9 beta and 11.9 Rage ATi Driver fix

Seems like John D. Carmack II did not get this game right like it should give him a few moments to get his team together to patch this OpenGL bug, also dont stress ID Software or Bethesda like you do, Ati and Nvidia has are big tile failures in delivering proper drivers in time before release.

Open up Profiles.xml with your favorite editing program for text files, I use Notepad in this example.

Search for

and make the value to

Then save the file and make it read only after that reboot your pc and start the game "VOILA" the freeze stutter is fixed which makes the game run soooooo bad.

Okay well if that's true then it at least reaffirms that the issue here revolves around textures and how they are being handled. It's kinda looking more like ID needs to patch RAGE more than AMD needing to patch Catalyst?

At least it works for all those that has been waiting since ID Software showed up the tech demo, thus the graphical textures could be better without black bits or textures at wrong places.

AMD/ATi is not the best driver supplier, since 10.5 preforms almost 5 fps better than the 11 series, it was just better times back in the old days when you had a X800 or 6600gt and drivers were properly supported.

As for now ATi is at fault, since that Catalyst Ai has never worked ever since they upgraded catalyst to 11.

Is there any benefit to doing it this way instead of simply disabling Catalyst AI in the Catalyst Control Center options menu?

The issue with the new Catalyst compared to the older one, is that AMD decided to lock that feature off in the newer versions, on older Catalyst you have this feature which clearly states "Disable Catalyst Ai"

Why would that matter for single card?

What fixed it for me was A) Updating to the recommended performance driver, and B) Creating the folder %localappdata%/id software/rage, which the game does not create for itself.

Haven't folks with Nvidia cards been having issues too? As far as who is the worse driver developer - for every person who complains about issues with AMD's drivers, there's someone complaining about Nvidia's.

I run singlecard and ofc I have tried several drivers and done that aswell. I have tried without that folder and with the folder, still the freezing every second. Though the catalyst ai disable is the only current fix for those with the same issue as me also seen several others.

I have the latest Catalyst (version 11.9).

If you go to the "Gaming" tab, select 3D Applications, there is a slider and a checkbox for "Disable Catalyst A.I."

I also have the 11.9 drivers for ATI and no there is not a check box for disable catalyst A.I the only thing there that's check able under Catalyst AI is for Enabling Surface Format Optimization

Basically Nvidia has been having tons of issues as well I know this, but it's in terms of their bad drivers, I guess Rage also uses the latest OpenGL version which the card makers have not 100% fully mastered in terms of working drivers for.

This is clearly shown that disabling catalyst ai works for Ati at least, but that sacrifices all the Ai optimization and fixes.

Thus this whole issue might be because the drivers miss some extensions in the current Nvidia/Ati, or that Rage has some bad extensions, that Ai looks for.

That should provide it

Also you cant open catalyst control at all after applying this fix, and rebooting your computer.

You might have to go into task manager and end MoM.exe before saving the file, some users has to do this some not.

Try this.

Open Catalyst set Catalyst AI is set to "High Quality" and uncheck "Enable Surface Format Optimization", close down Catalyst Control Center, go into task manager end MOM.exe/CCC.exe

Go to C:\Users\\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE

Open up Profiles.xml with Notepad or whatever

set to

Save close make sure it's read only. (Impotent)

Goto this destination and run the file

C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\MOM.exe

Reboot! NOW DONT TOUCH CATALYST CONTROL CENTER OR ANYTHING WTIH ATI THEN IT MESSES UP.

This is the only thing that has worked for me. I tried completely uninstalling my drivers and installing the one that just came out today and still got horrible freezing every 2 seconds. Finally something that makes the game playable although the textures are still awful looking. Oh well. I guess this will have to do : (

Works for me, have worked for several others, what's your specs? Make sure to follow the guide to 100% and have 11.9 rage driver updated version of them.
