Game Controller Not working

Post » Sun Dec 19, 2010 11:33 pm

Hi all im looking to find out if FO-NV is compatible with the likes of Saitek P380 and P480 Controllers i know the Xbox 360 controller works but I would like to use what I have here if possible, I can change the settings within the control panel but when i attempt to use the contoller in the game it will only react to the Keyboard and mouse. Any help would be great.

Bind the keys on the controller to the keys on your keyboard? So it doesnt use special keys that wont be recognized but uses real keys that exist on your keyboard as well. I use a Cyber Snipa Gamepad and it works with everything because it just replicates normal keys.

Take a look at this. http://www.tocaedit.com I haven't used it for New Vegas, as I prefer the mouse and keyboard, but it works perfectly for several console ports I've played recently.

You would have to use software that came with your controller. If there is none youre out of luck. I would try that emulator anyway, that should do it.

Ok i downloaded the emulator and extracted it into the game folder under steam, then i ran the program and there are presets for a saitek controller newer than my one so i set this and i also extracted the .dll file in there aswell should this now be recognised by FO-NV??

Thanks for the help

Sounds about right. You should hear an asterisk tone when you boot the game if all went well. From there, just picture a 360 controller in your mind and you're good to go :)

Still having a little bit of trouble do i just extract the emulator into the main file in steam or do i have to send it somewhere else?

Everything gets extracted to the folder with the FO NV .exe file. If I recall correctly, there's three files. A dll, a config, and the test program.

That would be:
[partition]:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\fallout new vegas

Where [partition] would be the harddisk partition you installed it on, standard being C but can be any letter up from C.
If youre using a 64bit OS it would be Program Files (x86) instead of just Program Files.

I have the xinput1_2.dll in the steam.exe folder location (no fallout new vegas.exe except on desktop) then i have the x360ce.exe there too and an x360.ini file too but no config file.

It needs to be in the folder with the FalloutNV.exe, not the steam.exe
I see you also got version 1.2..
use http://www.tocaedit.com/IB/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=4 (1.3)
or http://www.tocaedit.com/IB/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=44 (newer but without instructions)
Place it in the folder i wrote before. Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\fallout new vegas

Let me transfer the files into my NV folder and boot it. I'll let you know how it reacts.

I rebooted my computer to see if it would change things and it allowed me a little further but the minute i touched the controller it threw me out of the game and back to the steam window.

Seems to work without a hitch. Loaded a save, tested all the controls, contemplated shooting Ed-E with an SMG. Which version of the .dll are you using? Did you upgrade it as Blackice mentioned? I'm using 1.3, as the only game I've had require the newest version was Dead Rising 2, which was three and a half kinds of irritating to configure.

I have updated to 1.3 but had 1.2 in there also but i have now deleted it, since deleting it, its faster but still kicks me out before the main menu. Should i try re-install and do it all again?

Yeah, delete all three files, and extract just the 1.3 package into your New Vegas folder. I honestly don't know how it reacts if you load it with both dlls installed.

Since you already deleted the 1.2 dll, you should have 3 files from the package in your Fallout NV folder, a config file called "x360ce", an application called "XInput Test", and a dll called "xinput1_3" Delete these 3 files, and re-extract the package. Place the fresh files back in your folder.
