Game series you loved, but the love is gone

Title.

For me it the Call of Duty series. I played Call of Duty 2 for hours on end, as I did Call of Duty 4. I played World at War and wasn't impressed, then after Modern Warfare 2 I simply stopped buying and playing the games.

I foresee several Final Fantasy responses, which is understandable. My personal "Welp, so much for that" series is TES, by far. Not trying to be a rebel on the Bethesda boards, I just really loved Morrowind and dearly missed the exotic nature that game provided. Oblivion and Skyrim are just too..."Been there, done that."

Gonna add Silent Hill and Resident Evil, two series that started out great, but then were turned into the generic, mainstream Boo!-a-thons that they are now.

Devil May Cry I loved, but the new DMC thing just killed it for me. Emo Dante is probably the worst character conception i've seen. Even if they are doing some kind of alternate universe thing, this "thing" for the lack of a better word svcks. I've seen the combat, but the character just drags it down for me.

I still enjoy TES. I can still roleplay different characters just alright, tough I do miss the alien feeling I got when playing Morrowind.

The Gothic series, tough, got really destroyed when Gothic 4 was released. No more love for that series :)

Also I really enjoyed the Halo series, but somehow I just lost touch with it. When Halo Reach was released I just didn't care anymore.

I feel the exact same way. Even if the new DMC is a great game, I couldn't possibly bring myself to play as that guy. I'd seriously be more comfortable controlling a Care Bear or something. Just...anything but that guy. Dante and Nero looked rather emo, sure, but what's important is that they didn't fit the stereotype like a latex glove. This new guy needs to go.

Call of Duty, Having a yearly release has made the series so stale. If they aren't making some huge innovation, which they hardly ever do, it's tough to enjoy.

I still love TES, but I can't get into any of the games right now, and haven't been able to for months. The combat, physics, and AI of Oblivion and Skyrim sort of ruined Morrowind for me, the environments and combat of Skyrim sort of ruined Oblivion, and I can't focus on Skyrim for more than half an hour at a time before I get bored and want to do something else.

Don't care much at all for GTA anymore. As the series gradually became less wacky and light-hearted so did my interest for the franchise. I also abandoned Blizzard's RTS games for a number of reasons, the biggest one is probably how the min-maxing E-sports mentality swept over everything. I was going to get Starcraft 2 simply to have some casual games with friends overseas, but then they region locked the multiplayer so that was the end of that.

I think a lot of people who are in their 20's-30's today simply outgrew Final Fantasy. I'm pretty sure I read an interview with someone from Squenix stating that they specifically target the teenage demographic with their games.

Couldn't agree with this more. I wish I could say I was one of the people who played the first CoD when it was new, but I didn't. I did play CoD2 for hours and hours on end for the PC, and absolutely loved it (it was one of my first internet gaming experiences). The first Modern Warfare was still good (also had it on PC), but after that it was never the same :(.

I'd say the Modern Warfare series. I absolutely loved the first one to death. Although I was playing the campaign several times before I even touched the MP seeing as how I didn't have LIVE. It was a good arcade shooter that still went for authenticity. The second one was pretty solid as well, full of action. The mission Loose Ends really got me going and I just had to play to see how it would end. The 2nd one had a few plot holes and things I didn't get, such as who is Raptor? Who was the guy in the panic room at Brookmere Road? The third was a bit of a disappointment IMO. I mean, it still had all the fun that the previous installments had, but I didn't like what they did. They killed one my favorite characters from the series in a way I didn't really like. Sure, the tough bastard bled to death rather than going out like that one idiot from Reach who just gets randomly headshotted, but still, he should have switched places with Yuri IMO.

Besides, Infinity Ward is only a name now, most people woh worked on CoD4 did not work on MW3, so it's not the same. It's like the first two are Old King Hamlet and MW3 is King Claudius.

CoD 2 and MW, I played and enjoyed most. Rest is like Dan Brown books, repeating the same formula again and again. I think they managed to scare me away from my once beloved FPS genre.

And the death of certain survival-horror games and certain tactical shooters... Sad...

I can say it is now the elder scrolls that is going down that route for me. Skyrim's sterile disconnected world was nothing like the living, interconnected world I've dreamed for a decade. They just keep straying further and further from it.

Resident Evil - I loved being scared [censored]less of it, now. Now it's just horrible, in a non-scary way, because of the reliance on a 'teammate/AI' and the bland puzzles, and predictability of it. It's just lost everything I remember from Resident Evil 1, 2, 3:Nemesis and Code X Veronica. There was Dead Aim, that was probably the last decent Res game I played.

Fallout. I loved the first two games (and still do), but then it all went down and now the series is more of a curiosity for its (admittedly huge) potential of becoming something truly great and unique again in the RPG genre.

Anotherone is Command & Conquer series which hasn't produced a good game since Red Alert.

And the exact same (gone down after the second game) can be said about Silent Hill series.

I'm sure there's more, but those are all that this thread has reminded me of. :P

Guild Wars.

I got the 3rd game, loved it so I got a double pack that included the 1st and 2nd. Loved it even more. Got the expansion. Still loved it. I was on and off but then just grew tired of it. Even Guild Wars 2 got me hyped a little but I am just not interested anymore.

Not so much a single series, but I've been less into RTSs and FPSs in general than I used to. I think Morrowind indirectly killed a lot of my interest in FPSs, since I used to like playing around with the level editors as much as playing the games and FPSs were the most likely to come with editors, but then suddenly my favorite game series also became the most editable one I had. Still want to try the new Deus Ex one of these days, since Deus Ex was the last one I really liked.

Kingdom Hearts

I haven't really lost love for the series itself; I've still got faith in it, but the little fillers really tick me off. Although I hear BBS is essential if you want to understand III. Still haven't gotten my paws on that one... Will probably just wait until III is at least announced. Way things look with Versus XIII however, that won't be until at least 2097 or something.

Yep agree with those who said Mass Effect. I so so loved 1&2... But knowing how it ends just takes the edge of any playthrough for me...even if I don't play 3.

Also TES to an extent. I think it's mainly my fault though - I played so much Oblivion that Skyrim just isn't hitting the spot. It's a good game but I'm not feeling immersed like I did with Oblivion. Never mind the DLC, there's still entire questlines in the original game I haven't played yet. And I don't have much inclination to do so either. Is this how Morrowind fans felt when Oblivion came out?
