Game still crashing

When i start the game, the bethesda screen comes up, but it crashes every time the first load bar comes up. I'm using OBSE 18 to launch.

You should be using OMOBS and not MOBS. Do you see missing masters in Wrye Bash? You should not have red or orange check boxes. Try regenerating your Oblivion.ini. Also, if you use DarN UI, make sure you had added the fonts to your Oblivion.ini as well.

Hello Tom, nice to chat with you again.

I've been using Dark Darn UI with no issues, so I didn't think of it as a problem, but once I disabled the OMOD i was able to get back into the game again. Still having random crashes though.

Have no idea about Oblivion.ini, in WB, Fonts, ~Default.ini is checked with a yellow box. EDIT: Well, it was 'til I right clicked the window to see what options were listed then the .ini listing reordered itself and the box turned green.

I have OMOBS dl'd, but not installed.

EDIT: With OMOBS, do i use OMOBS.esp AND OMOBS_SI.esp or just OMOBS_SI.esp since i have Shivering Isles installed?

OMOBS needs to be installed. I do not understand why it is sitting around while you have the wrong stats rebalance in your load order. The WB fonts do not matter. Check the instructions on your UI mod. You have to make certain changes to the Oblivion.ini, and you should do that after regenerating the Oblivion.ini. What OMOD did you disable? I assume that means you "deactivated" it. Please, make these changes, and then I have a few other suggestion for stabilizing your setup. Are you using OBSE? If so, which version are you using, and what OBSE plugins are you using? Please list your system specs as well: OS, GPU, CPU, Sound, RAM. Include model, speed and capacity.

Edit: List your no-plugin mods as well.

I was using MOBS instead of OMOBS as they both looked the same and I already had MOBS installed.

PC:

Gateway GM5626. Vista Home Premium 32bit. 3gig RAM. Intel P4 2.4ghz Dual Core. ATI Radeon 4600 512mb. Default sound. 500gig HDD.

Quick check on your Sys Specs to make sure Oblivion will not crash and burn.

* Vanilla Oblivion - MIN
o CPU: 2GHz Pentium 4 or equivalent
o Sound Card: DirectX 8 compatible (could be onboard)
o GPU: 128 MB Direct 3D and DirectX 9.0 compatible
o RAM: 512 MB
* Vanilla Oblivion - REC
o CPU: 3GHz Pentium 4 or equivalent
o Soundcard: DirectX 8 compatible (could be onboard)
o GPU: 256 MB Direct 3D and DirectX 9.0 compatible
o RAM: 1 GB


...in other words, your computer is choking to death...

Edit: You should've packed OOO1.34b5 into an OMOD before installing it. Now you have a decision to make. Basically, you have to drop FCOM. I am not even sure how well that system can run OOO, but it certainly has a better chance of doing that. Looking at your GPU...I need to go reference some things. I will update in a few.

My vid card has 512 mem and i'm on dx11 have 3 gigs ram, admittedly vista eats most of that, but not all.

EDIT: I have no idea how to make an OMOD. Tried it once; got lost.

That is not what I was concerned about. The thing is, your CPU is ancient and slow... I am almost surprised that you can run that card on the same MOBO as a P4, but I guess the P4s are not that old. Is the GPU even sitting in a PCI x16 2.0 slot. I would assume that the slot is just PCI x16. You need to optimize as much as possible to take some stress of your CPU. Now, I will get to those stabilization and optimization recommendations.

Oblivion Really likes a fast CPU.. Really, as the Recommended was 3.0 GHz way back in the Beginning... With a lot of mods and extra AI will chock on the extra processing. Adding a Good(hardware based) Soundcard will help Lots!

Adding a sound card will not help that CPU run FCOM... I would get a new CPU and MOBO for $120 before adding anything else to that system, if the OP want to run heavy-duty mods.

True But it IS a Intel P4 2.4ghz Dual Core so should be up to the Task.?
Edit" More limiting is the 32 bit OS cant give Oblivion what it really wants...MEM!!

I use Windows XP. 32-bit is fine. I missed the Dual Core part. Oooh. I remember that CPU. Okay, no wonder that video card is on the same board. All right, well my optimization suggestion still apply, but that CPU you should run FCOM. My misread, sorry. Here it goes...

Edit: For OSR, try both heap mode 1 and 5. People have varying results, so there does not seem to be a standard recommendation. Many people do, however, recommend that you set Streamline's FPS limits inside or equal to the range set in OSR.

When you Upgraded to the new Video card Did you also upgrade the Power supply? The original was a 300 watt unit...Not up to the task of running the 4600 series cards? might want to check the specs for that..

That would certainly cause crashes...computer restarting too...

Edit: Removing OOO-WaterWeeds and MMM Looting NPCs & Creatures would take some pressure off your system as well

Grab the update (from the 3rd post of the MMM thread) for MMM Slof's Horses and DLCHorseArmor if you do not already have it.

okay, i've installed the OSR plugin, short grass v3, uninstalled ooo water weeds and mmm looting npc's. no, didn't upgrade powersupply. card didn't appear to be much of an upgrade from stock nvidia card.
I already have the MMM Slof update you mentioned yesterday. the extra horses in the various stables have since vanished, but not too worried about it atm.

No. The only mod you normally have to worry about with that MMM plugin is BC's City Defenses. Those two FCOM modules are graphics replacers.


Edit: I presume you were mixing that up with MMM's Diverse Guard Unity option, but that MMM option is obsolete (and not included) with MMM 3.7 anyway.

Just a thought, but Automagic Bags plugin. It's OBSE, has a lot of scripting and such, (lot of bags), could that possibly be too mem intensive?

I doubt it. Those two plugin I pointed would be more problematic. The scripting mods to worry about are those that are poorly written...that is about it really. If you have loaded the game with tons of mods, then you may have to be wary of mods that add scripts to tons of objects and NPCs (i.e., some ambient lighting and sound mods, mods that attach scripts to NPCs that are executed regularly or add more NPCs in general.) The OOO-WaterWeeds and similar mods hurt performance simply because of the nature of the mod. Lots of little mesh additions. That's why the BC FPS patches reduce the extra clutter.

Edit: Aside from poorly written scripts, you can add too many player-centric scripts. For example, Realistic Fatigue and older versions of Willful resistance give some users problems. It gets really bad if the player-centric scripts conflict with each other in some way.

39 Mart's Monster Mod - Farm Animals.esp [Version 3.7b3p3]

One says 3.5.5 other is from 3.7.3...? or did the Hunting /crafting not get a new #

Edit: just looked mine has updated # think we are getting close?

Ah, kool. I like being able to sort my loot by type and whether it's for keeping or selling.

I do have one other quick question before testing the new changes if you have the time... When i load the game i keep having to reset my sound/video settings. When I exit the game, they keep resetting.

Ahhh, I cannot remember what the cause of that bug is, but I have heard those exact symptoms before. I am nearly positive that the person was having crashes on exit though. Fast Exit 2 will take care of the CTD on exit issue. The problem is that the game does not get a chance to save INI edits before it crashes. You should not have to worry about that anymore. Be aware, that is you use the StreamSight feature of Streamline, it does alter your video settings, not resolution or anything like that, but it change the view/load distance for certain things in order to keep your FPS in the range you specified.
