Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 1:28 am

This was just released. The video was cut from the original combat video, and touches on monsters in ESO.

Nice interview.

Anyone still thinking this game isn't going to be TES enough is just obtuse and purposely trolling at this point.

Unfortunately we will still be hearing outcries from those people up to release and probably beyond lol

I liked how they said they ate using the same models for the giants and mammoths in Skyrim. Obviously they probably won't look as detailed in ESO, but I be right there they look great.

What they said though... that one guy being an undead werewolf.

Wouldn't he be under Hircine's control? Werewolves souls go to Hircines hunting grounds.

How did Molag Bal Get control of him?

Not everyone in the world had their soul stolen by Molag Bal, just teh Player Characters, and maybe SOME of the NPC's.

All comes down to how creative they are with shaders. You can get a lot even out of a really lightweight shader. I remember looking around a tech demo game for Unity iPhone, and I thought I was just seeing the super-powerful PC version of the game. I was wrong. It looks just as incredible on iPhone.

Weird it won't even show the video for me. Guess I will have to wait for a YouTube version of it.

How are they using the same models if the art is stylized?

They probably implement it, and then change it to fit the art style.

Same base model.

Different textures.

At its most basic, a 3D object consists of two elements, a model (which is basically a polygonal mesh and is what gives the object its 3D shape) and a texture, which is the actual skin/fur/stone/dirt that you see. Picture it sort of like a metal frame in the shape of the object in question with a cloth stretched over its surface depicting the object itself. There's more to it than that, well beyond my ability to explain since I don't even know half of it, but those are I believe the most basic elements of 3D design.

You are correct.

Gotta say, I was really happy to see the Dwemer Constructs from Skyrim in the E3 presentation.

However, they weren't changed at all. I mentioned this in another thread but, if they are using the Mammoth and Giant from Skyrim, I doubt they'll be changed aesthetically, just down-graded. The Sphere Centurion, Steam Centurion and Dwemer Spider were exactly the same as they were in Skyrim, with a smaller texture, less poly's and less normal and spec mapping. That leaves it in STARK contrast to some of the other creature models we saw. Most notably, the spiders are incredibly "bubblegum," (a term that means bulbous, exaggerated, too colorful and all-in-all cartoony).

Why they didn't use the frostbite spider is a bit confusing.

It makes sense that they had to redesign the Kagouti, the Morrowind model would be a bit too old by now.

I guess we'll see when more comes out but I'm very interested to see how they deal with the disparity between what looks like two very different art-styles fighting for the same space.

I assume the frostbite spider is native to Skyrim. The spiders we saw in the demo seemed to live in High Rock.

I wonder, if they use models from Skyrim, are they going to use their animations as well? Will TESO use Havok Behavior?
