Meh, I thought it should go to either Skyrim or Dark Souls.

My thoughts are Dark Souls isn't even an RPG compared to an ES. Its a hack and slash. But, I couldn't care less if Skyrim wins every, or no awards.

Dark Souls cannot compare to an Elder Scrolls game, they are on another level.

I'd have given it to Skyrim. The only other RPG i'd consider would have been the Witcher 2

A decision made specifically to push people's buttons, don't fall for it. Everyone knows Skyrim is GOTY - those who say otherwise in a category like this are just looking for attention.

DS was a good game. Skyrim can't win every award I guess.
I can live with it.

Hack and Slash? Isn't it supposed to be challenging and tactical combat?
I mean Skyrim feels more like hack and slash to me. Less than Oblivion, but still...

I believe it will not be far till elder scrolls is also it's slowly becoming more hack and slash than quests

So there's other stuff to do in Dark Souls other than fight?

Dark Souls has its own problems, but overall I'd say it's more than deserved a GotY.

Sorry, I thought you implied the combat was overly simplistic, but you meant the focus of the game.

But yes, why not? Rpgs come in many flavors.
I'd rather have one focus and do a small number of things well, rather than one that tries to dabble in everything.

The question isn't whether Skyrim is GOTY, it's whether if it's deserving to be called Skyrim or TES V:Skyrim.

Its pretty much fighting isn't it.

Please no, I hope they start adding instead of taking away now.

So innovation and mechanics are Skyrim's weaknesses. I agree.

I didn't play Dark Souls. But I feel they are trying to teach a lesson. A much deserved one. Totally late though, if Oblivion was treated like this, things would go very differently.

Good choice. I really like skyrim but it feels so shallow.

Console only wins? Were they only comparing console versions? Skyrim on the PC will out live Dark Souls easily.

Whoever made Dark souls probably had enough money to buy at least one GOTY

Nope, I did. Seemed like a linear action game with a few RPG mechanics. Seemed like Ninja Gaiden meets what Bioware is trying to pass off for RPGs these days.

I'm loving Skyrim and having a blast, but Dark Souls was a better game in my opinion. Though they are definitely on the opposite sides of the RPG spectrum. They each are their own games which is why I love them both.
