Perhaps the rotting flesh of my female undead was a bit of a turn off...

I played an undead madame once. The outcome was hilarious.

Both genders, although in Fallout 3 and New Vegas I couldn't make a female character. None of the models appealed to me.

Opposite with Mass Effect, I got attached to the Female Shepard on the second game and from there just went with it.

Depends on the male/female models, and if both are equally good in taste i go with Male.

I made a really awesome female character once in New Vegas. She was the wife of the dreaded Lone Wanderer, annihilator of Algonquin Park, the pariah of D.C. who made it impure, who destroyed an innocent town for profit and who bombed The Citadel for kicks. The sick bastards had an interesting relationship. I couldn't think of a name so I just made one up for her. I decided to use her for explosives and melee and decided to call her the Danger! Man. Yes, her name has an exclamation mark, and yes her name implies she is male. As the wicked bride to the living incarnation of evil itself, she set out to prove her worth and to spill blood in his name. She often wore Naughty Nightwear while chainsawing people to bits with a Ripper. I made sure she invested in Bloody Mess and Cannibal as soon as possible. Even when a person was dead, she'd cut them up into chunks and feast on them. She got high once and decided to tear up the Gomorrah. She was outside by the pool and chainsawed everybody to death. She dragged all their corpses into a big pile, ate them all and then dismembered them even more. She aligned with nobody and killed everyone in sight.

Looking back, I wish I had discovered Dead is Dead sooner, she'd have been interesting for that. People started calling me sick that I would pile corpses in funny ways and mutilating them. Eating the corpses always made me damn hungry IRL for some reason, plus the fact people thought I was psychotic, I ended up going to Hoover Dam and retired her. Aww man, all the body parts! The body PAAARRRTTS!!!!

For Skyrim, my first female character was a Dunmer Archer/Conjurer. First time I ever made a hybrid character rather than relying on one of the three archetypes. Used the Bound Bow the whole time, was loads of fun. She was a bit more..."sane" than my New Vegas character. Forget what I named her though, although I tried to keep it close to being Dunmer friendly.

For some reason though, I'm the only one I know IRL that instantly picks Rochelle or Zoey in Left 4 Dead. I prefer playing the females in those kind of games. Unlike the RPG like Mass Effect or Fallout where my preference is male.

Now that I think back upon my MMO days, I did like female characters. I was probably 13 at the time. Had a decent female sorcerer. She ended up becoming the highest level and the most powerful on the server for the game at one point. Although in her infancy, some Polish guy gave me a bunch of high leveled items because he "liked women." I never asked for items, nor have I ever claimed to be female. All my friends knew I was male, yet this guy was insisting I take these items. I took them all, one of which were a pair of fuzzy bunny slippers. I tried to tell him I was male, but he wouldn't have it. I took my items and went about my day. I was pretty happy, and didn't feel bad since I tried warning the poor sod.

Female. Why? Because playing a badass female that could kick my ass excites me.

That and I like cute things.

Playing a guy does nothing for me. Just because I'm a guy doesn't make me relate any more to them. The fact that they're usually outside means there's no way that would be me in any reality. :P

I've been struggling to decide whether or not to reply here, considering how the last thread basically went down in flames, but I'll go ahead and try it; hopefully it'll provide an interesting viewpoint at least.

I've mentioned it before, but I'm trans. And frankly, I play mostly female characters because that is how I identify, and because it can help make me feel more comfortable especially in RPGs and MMOs. Playing Skyrim actually helped quite a bit in the first half of this year, before I got on hormones and when my dysphoria(essentiallly, gender-related panic attacks kicked up to 11) was at it's worst.

That said, there's always the question of what the style of the game is like. If you have to look high-and-low to find something that isn't a chainmail bikini, I'll play male; and sometimes it just feels more "right" to RP the character as male(that happened in ME for me, though mainly because I figured Femshep's voice acting would be subpar...how wrong I was, lol).

So how effective is that tactic? :whistling:
Very effective. Very, very effective. Although I always get banned or suspended. I don't ever get along with mods in any internet community. Mainly because they break their own rules for my sake.
I've done it before and gotten free stuff. It was...awkward having to explain after I changed my character's gender.
I never change gender. It's always a downgrade.

I play as a male in MMORPGs and I flirt with female characters, even though I know they are probably dudes who just want items. With me being a lisbian, it makes the whole situation really confusing for everyone.

Spoiler
Not really. I almost always play as female characters and flirt with everybody.

I always play female characters, given the choice. Usually someone very ordinary rather than attempting some angle at being "badass". I eventually realised I was probably in essence playing as myself but didn't really set out to do that; maybe I just have no imagination!
