Just do what I did. Hire Janessa in Whiterun, do the quest and then afterwords just resurrect her via the console. No harm done.

Presuming you are using PC though. If not then ignore.

OP You have fallen for the temptation of material lust, and are just trying to make up excuses to pay your way in to Sovngarde . Except your evil or know you have been defeated by a being more supreme & move on like my character did. As long as you live your life to the fullest, I suppose buning in hell for eternity is not such a bad prospect or is it?

preaching to others is one way to make it to hell, i'd assume... might wanna be careful with that.

Even if you managed somehow to past the pilar part without breaking your character principles, you are not given the armor as a price for that part, it's granted you later as a champion of Boethia, which is not preciselly an onoriphic title as thane. You are supposed to become her main evil minion. You have two choices, have a non evil character or have that armor, there is no way of having both.
