getting the ebony mail without being evil?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 6:41 am

i just went along with boethiah's quest to see what the ebony mail is like... and it is freaking epic.

i love the effect it has when going into sneak mode... I WANT THIS ARMOR SO BADLY!

unfortunately, i have a problem with being forced to sacrifice someone to do this quest...

i read on UESP wiki you can just kill all the cultists and the quest would go on as usual, but that is crap... im still forced to sacrifice someone!

so, since im stuck with sacrificing someone for this quest... is there an EVIL follower i could take there?

my guy isnt a righteous hero, he is pretty brutal towards even scum like bandits, to the point where even necromancy is fitting to use on them, forcing them to fight their own comrades... but he does protect innocent people when he can.

is there a follower i can get that isnt exactly a good person to have around... and wont really be easily missed?

i heard that executioner in solitude can become a follower... how would you guys rate him on a morality scale?

jenassa in whiterun seems a bit dark... but i havent seen anything from her that makes me despise her... now, if there is a hidden note somewhere linking her to a murder or stealing a child's toy, then fine, i'll take her out.

can someone please help me out... cause i would love to get this armor for my warrior-mage.

not to mention, the effect it has on your character's appearance is PERFECT for a dunmer... nothing like a shadowy figure with blazing red eyes staring you down.

Go hire a mercenary at one of the inns. They seem shady enough.

My pick if I was playing a good character is Sven, yes you do make Faendel's life miserable but Sven is an ass.

The mercs don't work. You have to use someone that follows you willingly.

I guess it depends on your view of "evil". Are werewolves inherently evil? Aela, Vilkas or Farkas could fit the bill. Depending on what you expect from your folower (tank, ranged, etc.), take your pick of the least useful. Aela is the only one that doesn't ask you to cure them of their disease, if that makes a difference.

Eola is about the most shady one I have found for a follower.

...mercenaries DO work... when i did the quest just to see what the armor was like, i hired jenassa from the drunken huntsman... she's a mercenary, cost me 500 gold, then i sacrificed her and the quest went on just fine.

also, i THOUGHT werewolves would be monsters... but not in skyrim, apparently.

from what i can see, werewolves are only involved with the companions, and those werewolves are all good people.

now, vampires are something else... undead... completely unnatural... if i could get a vampire follower, that'd work, most likely.

im not going to sacrifice sven from riverwood... mostly because i have to ruin a good person's life to do so.

Edit: look, people... you're suggesting followers such as EOLA... which i have to be truly evil to get as a follower... i have to DEVOUR AN INNOCENT MAN to get her!

if i would be willing to do that... why would i be trying so hard to find someone not-so-innocent to sacrifice?

I think we're mixing up lifestyle choices with being evil ;p

Ultimately what the sacrificial victim's background is is irrelevant. YOU are having them murdered for your own personal gain. This is evil, no matter how you try cut it, and no matter who you had sacrificed. You could sacrifice hitler's pedophile evil twin, and it'd still be evil, because good/evil in this context is a measure of your own actions and motivations ;p

My advice is to OP, is to forget justifying it there is no "good" way to do this. just go pick someone you won't miss and turn them in for the outfit and just say it fell off the back of a lorry. Erase the item's background from the narrative, it's just a part of your character's awesome pimped out gear

All daedra are technically evil. Some more, some less.

You are trying to do a deal with the devil and stay good. Ha.

Dark Brotherhood initiate is an evil follower, however your good character would never do the Dark Brotherhood questline to get them.

Maybe the mercs are bugged (?). The first thing I did was try Janessa. She wouldn't activate the shrine, she kept saying "ok" and then not doing anything. I eventually just used Faendal.

all daedra are not evil... you may as well say AKATOSH is evil because alduin and the other dragons who followed alduin are his children.

It worked for me, even though I'm pretty sure I glitched it. I kept spamming them to touch it, then made them tan leather. Rinse and repeat until they float over to the tanning rack and get possessed. Wait for an hour, quest continues as normal.

Um. Well. Even the "not-evil" daedra (Meridia and Azura) aren't exactly good. In human parlance of course. They're actually not subject to human classificatioins.... or mores....

No, it's heavy. It's a point of confusion because in an earlier game it was medium armour (as the name suggests, it's mail rather than plate) before they removed the distinction

I'm not positive, Z. I thought I saw on the wiki that it was - but I can't get the wiki to load very well tonight (keeps timing out) so can't check for sure.

OP You have fallen for the temptation of material lust, and are just trying to make up excuses to pay your way in to Sovngarde . Except your evil or know you have been defeated by a being more supreme & move on like my character did. As long as you live your life to the fullest, I suppose buning in hell for eternity is not such a bad prospect or is it?

Except there is no heaven nor hell in TES. Just many flavours and varieties of outer plane - Boethia's realm being attribution's share, for which there isn't a whole lot of information on, but expect a lot of conspiring, backstabbing, and labyrinthine structures.

As you see with Aela, some people are actually *happy* with their alloted daedric afterlife ;)
