Give us something to do with Dragon Souls

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 3:51 pm

Enchant weapons/armors or every 5 souls you could have a new perk?
i actually like both this ideas i want them!
As long as it is somehow limited (all perks would be insane) it seems okay for me. And enchanting would be awesome, maybe a new enchantments specific for dragon souls? Or at least, a new DLC enchantment, like the dragon aura effect of the trailer, obviously with an effect.

I can see them being used for a Tu'um perk tree.

I like the idea of more perks, but to make it so it still is a work for all those extra perks I think the exchange rate should be high. And even then after a while they'll get built up again when we don't have anymore perks to get that we care about. So the souls should be added to a crafting system, either enchanting to fuel new enchants or learn new enchants, or even smithing, give us the ability to imbue the smithed gear with the soul(s) to make them have special effects, less weight, more armor rating. Something! Just give us a way to get rid of these damn soul buildups!!!!

I can see them being used for a Tu'um perk tree.

Do Thu'ums really need to be stronger though? Marked for Death can already turn any fight into a 1 hit untempered iron dagger battle, and Clear Skies can stunlock entire armies indefinitely.

I guess that argument could be used on everything in Skyrim though. Except destruction magic.

since the perks system is useless, as once you level up, it's done, why not allow people to buy perks with souls.

i would like to continue my archery, sneak, and other perks, and finsih them out.

the perk system, and only being able to get 1 per level, was flawed. Should of been 2, which had to be both used on 1 perk, till tree is complete.

i think this would be cool. perks like decreasing cooldown time and and increasing shout range/damage.

I always thought something we should be able to do is summon dragons with them, you know like "unlease the soul"

there could be three different types:

Unleash dragon soul: (takes 1 soul)
unlease a low-flying spirit dragon (made up of the dragonsoul type aura) that that will stay with you and attack your enemies for 2 minutes

Revive dragon: (takes 2 souls)
you need to be near a dragon carcass, it will essentially do the opposite of absorbing a soul, so recreate the flesh of the dragon. The dragon created would be levelled to the character and would last for 5 minutes.

Recreate Dragon: (takes 5 souls, maybe more as it may be slightly OP)
you need the corpse of a named dragon (not any from the MQ) it is the same as the revive dragon shout except the dragon will last as long as it lives, it will hang around for as long as the fighting goes on then flies off, it will be resummoned by using the odaviing shout and each time it is summoned it will stay until the fighting is over or it dies.

Agreed. I have over 100 extras, and it would be nice if I could put them towards a perk tree or leveling up individual shouts even further...

It would be great if they added a Dragonborn perk tree and allowed us to use Dragon Souls to unlock perks from it, or if they allowed us to spend dragon souls into increasing our damage, armor rating (or physical damage reduction), magical damage reduction, magicka, health, stamina, and any other stat you can think of, by like a single percent for every dragon soul spent. Obviously, for those that have a ton of souls, this could potentially be game breaking, but that would be a very clear cut choice on the players part, and I don't really see a problem with it. Obviously, I'd advocate for the tree, but eventually you use up all the perks and then you're back where you started.

What ability would be epic enough to justify the expenditure? Kill everything on screen...? Because I can already do that myself lol.

It's powerful enough to kill three dragons at once! :P

Would be nice if it was just a slightly bigger soul gem. Or a unique named weapon increases in strength based on the amount of souls

Someone mentioned shout crafting, i really support this idea, it even fits considering the previous dragonslayers that sent Alduin to our time, made "Dragonrend" on their own. So why not our own Dovahkiin? :) Like 5-10 souls per "word" ?

Really, I feel like I have so many just gathering dust in my soul box.

You would think they would have worked it into smithing their armor. I mean, I guess it just comes down to shaping bone, and that doesn't really require a soul (unlike daedric armor).. but still.

It would have at least given them some use.

the problem with Shoutcrafting is that each word is an actual word with a meaning. so it wouldn't work with a mix and match x amount of abilities type system, unless Beth can make 1 word mean "Force Whirlwind Fade Fire!"

Yeah, I am hoping for ~5 new shouts, which of course would be 15 souls. More than 5 would be a lot, but I welcome it.

As for doing something with souls other than learning words. Hmm, it would be interesting. I can't think of much that wouldn't be obscenely powerful, like the ability to resurrect after death, consuming a dragon soul. (sort of like bottled fairies in Zelda Ocarina of Time).

the bottled fairies were handy for the bosses, i always had 2 or 3 with me and would come out with all of them gone. but for some reason, i only needed one per boss in Master Quest.

but 1 soul is too cheap. some people have 100+ souls. and some people wou;d get annoyed because they had only one and were saving it for a shout or something

I'd never play Skyrim again if they allowed complete perk mastery. I think I could live with a 25-50-100 soul Respec cost or something, but total perk conquest is as stupid as stupid gets for replayability.

I agree. Something similar happened in Fallout 3. Being able to max every tree is just a bad idea. It also takes away from the impact our choices make. I'm also not sure on respecing. Take smithing for example. If I wanted to modify a dwarven crossbow, I could just respec into the heavy armor side, and once I'm done, respec back to the light armor side. It's one of those things that sounds good on paper, but it'd be slightly OP in practice.

how about an ability that expends a soul to use it

Best idea so far.

Because this problem comes about when all the words of power have been learned, this ability should relate to the Dragonborn being a master of the th'uum. How about an ability to pass th'uum knowledge on to someone else? It could use the animation and sfx that is used when the Greybeards pass on their knowledge.

I think the ability to make an ally dragonborn for a day would be a good way to use up extra souls. When you become master of the th'uum a conversation option is added to follower dialogue. They stand there while you give them the gift of the th'uum in the same way as master borri does when you're learning a word from him.

Your follower then has the ability to use shouts in battle for a day.

I personally think a skill tree that eats up a hundred dragon souls would be good. Just make it so large and costly that most players could never max it out.
