Give us something to do with Dragon Souls

Really, I feel like I have so many just gathering dust in my soul box.

Agreed. I have eighty four of them, and not having a use for them seems really unfair to the dragons that "donated" them to me.

I'm fairly sure there will be quite a few new shouts in Dragonborn, given that it's going to focus on, well... being Dragonborn.

Still, let's say there are 5 new shouts with 3 ranks. That's just 15 more souls, something generally easy to achieve.

Indeed... join the club. Ideally perhas you could have shout-crafting along the lines of the old spell-crafting system... being able to come up with combined storm-call/dismay/unrelenting-force/I-don't-know-what shouts costing say ten souls would help clear the backlog.

At this point though, with thirty-odd souls banked, I'd be happy if they made them a cooking ingredient.

I don't see why Dragon Knowledge (which we get from those souls) should be spent purely on learning how to use Words of Power. There must be other uses for them... like Enchanting, strengthening yourself, discovering special abilities, revive Dragons (Alduin style), etc.

I was thinking this not too long ago. There's certainly never going to be enough shouts to match the infinite dragons. If there was some kind of way to permanently and repeatedly consume the souls, it'd be a nice way of making dragon fights desirable.

Maybe you can spend souls to power and learn new, high-power enchantments in Apocrypha, since the Dragon's Soul is essentially their knowledge, it'd fit the theme. That maybe runs the risk of alienating the "No main quest" people though.

When you reject to play the MQ, you accept the risk of not getting some of features. Quality of content, ideas and further expansion of game's main theme should not be sacrificed just so a minority would not feel left aside.

It would be neat if you could make a special weapon with them for like 100+ souls.

It may be worth noting the possibility that dragon souls could be involved in the dragon riding system, or the dragon aura that surrounded the pc in the Dragonborn trailer, as a way of controlling the dragon and sustaining the aura. I also think they should be able to be used in enchanting, after all, they're souls, or at least do something apart from shout learning.

Well, it's not a problem for me, I love Dragon Encounters. I only wish they were Harder and netted better rewards. (The Revered and Legendary are good if you don't have Smithing+Enchanting maxed)

I think it's true. Personally I'm waiting to destroy Alduin until I've done all other missions and you can see the difference between doing the MQ or not. I applied to DLCs, it just is in my opinion, weird, after all, they may have secondary content, but the main idea is the story it has to tell.

I would rather the act of taking a Dragon soul to be Manual not automatic, modded my game so that you have to shout at a dragon to take its Soul, I rather the first storyline word wall to give you an ability to take souls, and that after killing dragons you don't just get souls but become empowered by them and learn a word. Wordwalls would be to galvanize your thu'um like Paarth does.

Well, I play MQ alongside doing side missions, leaving Alduin for the last (like usual in TES games). It gets kinda anti-climatic after you finish the MQ so I also leave it for last :P

But I don't think the DLC will require you to kill Alduin, but just to have you know what you are. At worst, you will have to have visited the Graybeards and be proclaimed new Ysmir. At best, you will just have to unlock Dragon encounters.

I always assumed that the Word Walls used the words of power in the appropriate context to give them the power of a Thu'um. I think conversation in the Dragon War Era would get pretty awkward if every time you wanted to say "Balance" all your friends would be thrown with the force of a hurricane.

well unfortunately they don't use it in the same context as the power of the thu'um at least not in what you expect. the word walls are just memorials to the dead Fo for instance is just used to describe something no differen't than you or I would say something is Cold. so my misgivings aobut changing how you get shouts are out the window because the dungeons and wordwalls rarely/barely have anything to do with the type of shout it harbors.

I didn't actually mean I hadn't played MQ, I'm just leaving Alduin for last. Anyways, I agree. Killing the last enemy and cotinue playing always leaves me with a "meh" feeling. It's rather empty, no final objective.

I've read all the shout wall translations, but given the abstract nature of language in general, there's no real way to know if it is, or isn't the right context. Perhaps being tied to the memory (Something the only the Dragonborn can recognize immidately, instead of after years of meditation, because he/she inherited the frame of reference of dragonkind) is what gives it the context. Or maybe you're absorbing the context from the Dragon itself, sort of a cipher.

Heh... I kinda like the idea of using dragon souls for enchants, maybe a unique enchant set purely for dragon souls with larger perks? Like 15 souls for an invisibility proc on armor. sorry if the amount seems large... I kinda.. well I got a surplus of souls to use. Almost like at one point I was a dragonhunter, and collected over... 500 souls.. XD

From what I understand:
- Word Walls are graveyards to various heroes and advices from old Nords (every Wall has a different text... I always go to UESP with my mobile to read it when I find it ^_^ ). our Dragonborn, due to being a Dragon, recognizes the most important word and its translation to Common Tongue
- Dragon Soul allows us to learn the meaning behind the word and how to use it as a Dragon does by devouring some of Dragon's memories (the conversation I imagine is similar like when you ask Paarth to explain some of the words to you)

It would be good to be able to sacrifice 5 or 10 Dragon Souls for a Perk. At least would silence those who can't stop talking about increasing the Level Cap so they could get eevry Perk in existence and be Masters of All Trades >.<

Dragon souls should take a part in some unique weapon and armor enchantments, as well as smithing. I think there should be levelled dragon souls too, like the regular dragon souls you get from random encounters, to the legendary souls you get from dragon lairs.
