Glass vs Daedric

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 1:42 am

So I am sitting at level 23 with some decent armor and weapons and debating on how based to use the perks I have been saving for smithing. I Ultimately want to wear Dragon Scale armor and prefer my light armor shields to go with it. But since the weapon and shield fighter does tend to have a lower damage output I am stuck debating a bit, whether or not to take glass or daedric and make the respective sword and use it. My one handed is at 82 and I have all 5 tiers of the armsman perk so I have confidence that both would be very effective. Its more a question of does the slight boost the daedric has in damage trump the glass sword entirely?

Daedric weapons is the way to go. I also like using Elven armour; super light and good protection when Legendary.

Im using Elven armor now, admittedly it is good protection but I hate what it looks like. I love the dragon scale so I am game for that regardless of daedric or glass

I use light armor, not heavy

there are both Dragon Scale heavy and light armors.

once you chose that perk you get to choose which armor to make.

you may want to save just before you make it ...just incase.

Dragon Bones make the heavy armor variation and Dragon Scales make the light armor variation, this I already know. I have used Dragonplate (heavy) when I used my two handed sword warrior, I used a daedric greatsword at the time but noticed very minimal difference between it and the glass greatsword in terms of practical damage output. I was just mainly curious if that would be a fair assessment of the one handed variations or if because they are significantly weaker than their two handed counterparts that the small numerical difference does make a difference in a fight.

Most of the people didn't read the whole post, or just don't comprehend it.

Anyways, if you're worried about perks, take the light armor route and hit glass, then go straight to Dragon Scale.

Daedric Sword Base DMG Fully Perked: 27(?)
Glass Sword Base DMG Fully Perked: 23 (?)

It's a matter of looks and if you don't care about losing perks because both can be upgraded very high.

Personally... Dragon is the way to go. whats more bad ass then killing a dragon, and taking the ultimate poop on him by using his scales and bones to protect yourself.

Daedric armor looks too much of a throwback on what popular RPGs from 10 years ago. Reminds me of like... an Orange county choppers full body armor...

If you're surviving just fine in light armor then stick with it - plus the Glass Armor is fine looking. I switched to heavy early on because I was getting my ass handed to me in light (I dual wield).

FWIW: I'm wearing Daedric armor now and it is sweet...menacing-looking too. Never had much trouble with Ebony armor either...just ready to change. :P

if the difference between glass and daedric is small go with glass.

it requires only refined malachite and leather straps.

and you can usually find those things at any blacksmith.

I tried heavy armor and ironically was getting chewed up, with my light armor I rarely get hit for it to even matter. But my original point is not about defense, like I already said I will be using the dragon scale armor when I choose to put smithing to 100.

This is mostly just a question of me trying to make sure the perks I spend are worth it in the long run. Daedric swords are stronger than glass, this I already know. All I am curious about is, is that damage difference enough to make the glass sword become obsolete after upper echelon levels? I have only take steel and elven armor in smithing and have more than enough perks to go up either side and max to dragon scale. I am just debating on whether or not the 1 saved perk on the light armor and weapons side is worth slightly less damage as opposed to an extra perk spent on the right side of the tree but getting a somewhat stronger sword.

In my opinion, NO. I use Ebony Weapons mostly in Endgame. You can make up the difference and then some with enchantments or poisions.

This is more than an extra perk. It will cost you several perks just to unlock Daedric (unless you've already unlocked to Ebony?). The base damage increase is insignificant and there is no reason to go Daedric just for the weapons unless you have perks to blow. Glass will do just fine. That said, glass armor is not a significant upgrade from Elven and a waste of 2 perks unless the look of Elven really bothers you that much.

There is no reason to ever go heavy armor or deadric weaponry outside of aesthetics. With 100 smithing, relevant smithing perks, and a store bought fortify smithing potion you should be able create a weapon of any material strong enough to breeze through the vanilla game. The most efficient use of perks is simply to go with steel or eleven armor/weaponry - but this requires a huge investment in trade skills to reach the 567 armor cap.

You won't go wrong with Ebony weapons - that's for sure. The main reason I use Daedric weapons is to match my armor - I'm a pretty lady! :P

Pick what you like the best. I really like the glass because it actually slightly resembles a real combat weapon you wouldn't be afraid of getting stuck in a victim. I'm personally not a big fan of over-the-top japanimationesque gear and weaponry. But that's a personal preferrence. Damage-wise , endgame there's really a minimal difference as you hone your playstyle and your gear continues to get better. One of the light armor perks falls right into a melee fighter's bread and butter , stamina regen.Even if it's more effective out of combat , which I've personally not really noticed , it's the warrior's version of fortify magicka regen. So to answer your question , no you won't be hugely gimping your damage output by going up the light side.

One-handed perks and blocking perks after smithing can have a massive impact on your game experience.Once you get standing power attack damage bonus and the charge attack perk , you'll dramatically approach fights differently.Single-wielding with a shield will make these perks more useful and not as overpowered as if you were dual-wielding them.My dual-wielding fighter after getting these two perks tivialized almost everything in the game , but the same perks coupled with a shield make sense. You could even go up the block tree and become an absolute crowd demolishing monster , but you'll still have the problem of really long combat times which is the biggest liability for any PC.But you sure won't lack for laughs as your enemies flop around in the air helplessly.

Basically it's going to boil down to late-game experience for you if you decide to perk into melee combat skills coupled with all the crafting skills , you'll become untouchable at a certain point bordering on complete boredom (for me). My strategy now is not to spend perk points just because I have them , I spend them when the game seems to have bumped up a notch and gotten a bit more challenging.

If I am light armor use, like my current character I am playing. I just stick with Glass but that is just me I like everything matching on him and looks better to me rp wise. Plus, if you have glass armor perk and dragon perk. Your going to need to go and get the rest of the Heavy Armor perks just grab Daedric. I rather spend those perks on something else

Go glass. Then get Chillrend at 46+ (doesn't hurt if you get it one rank lower though). Assuming you didn't already get it. Upgrade it with glass and enchanted weapons perk. It's the best 1h weapon in the game. Because of this, 1h warriors still luck out, even if they go up the light armor tree.
