Pretty much every band I enjoy listening to either stopped making music, is on hiatus, or changed there sound so drastically I can't enjoy it. The reason I want indie rock bands is that I love that feeling of getting an album you watched and waited on for so long, unfortunately because of the aforementioned reasons I don't often get that feeling, the last album I waited on was the most recent Flogging Molly album and even then I felt a tad disappointed in there changing sound. A friend of mine recommended I listen to The Shins but from what I've heard there songs are more music for the sake of music than music with a feeling and a meaning that I prefer. What can some of you guys suggest to me?
Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Days_of_the_New's Green album.(And to an extent, the yellow/orange album too)
They wouldn't be classified as indie, but they have amazing music and are generally unknown(Save for the song Touch, Peel, and Stand which did get a lot of radio time). For some stupid reason they got classified as an Alice In Chains knockoff because of that one song, but the entirety of the rest of that album(And especially their later stuff) is so different from AiC's style it was completely unfounded.

Even some of his B-sides songs are great

Unfortunately, the lead got addicted to meth and has been struggling to get off it for the past 10 years, so Yellow/Orange, Green, and Red are all you're getting. Still he does still work on making a new album and new songs have been popping up on youtube lately.
