Graphics getting drastically worse after patch 2.1?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 10:35 am

I installed patch 2.1 and although it seems to have solved the framerate issue I have noticed a severe drop in the quality of the graphics. Text is blurry and near unreadable and textures don't seem as sharp.
Is anyone else experiencing a downgrade in graphics quality? I'm glad they fixed the lag but to be honest at least with that I could turn off the console every hour to get past the problem. I'll probably get used to the graphical drop but I think it's an out of the frying pan into the fire scenario.
I'm not here to troll, I really want this game to be fixed so I can enjoy it the way it should be.

The graphics and textures look exactly the same way as they looked before for me. Also, the patch was less than 100MB, which is definitely not large enough to change the textures as drastically as people are claiming. Also, I really doubt Bethesda care that anybody is selling or has sold their copies of the game. They already have your money anyway.

I have noticed a drop in the texture quality, but nothing massive though.

You would expect a texture degrade on a console version. And once I have upgraded my PC I will purchase it on that platform.

As I have done on all the previous games. :P

However the issues im facing now is the bookshelves and weapon racks at my houses. Shame as I have some very interesting books I have to read over a bottle of Mead and a toot on my skooma pipe.

The textures would remain the same but the resolution at which they are rendered would be changed (lessened). It's literally lines of text in a config file that has little-to-nothing to do with the size of the patch.

I agree about Bethseda not caring at this point. Can I ask how large your save file is and how long you've been playing. I might start a new game to see if it looks better there.

I dont think you should have to sell your game. Bethseda should do the right thing and recall the game as they have produced
a faulty product. After the patch my PS3 is crashing so bad during the game that I have to reset the machine as the controller wont even respond

It seems that some textures have a noticable dropped down resolution.
It's kind of a mix, some textures stayed the same, some were dropped.

I am eager to see a comparisson (normally this should be done by some people within the next days).

Changing textures is a simple ini setting change, it has nothing to do with the size of the patch. The textures for most of the setting levels are there to begin with. You have no settings options on ps3 therefore you have no choice but to play it thier way. Using lower res textures seriously takes 3 keystrokes. Sorry, they [censored] us. And yes, they lowered the textures to improve performance. Easy fix for someone who doesnt know how to fix the real issues.

Another question, is it possible to uninstall a patch? To be honest the game was better before the patch.

Typically PS3 patches are done incrementally so yes you can delete the patch under Game Data and then allow the first patch to download and apply and then cancel-out when the second patch starts to download. (it'll just prompt you each time you start the game and you'll need to continue to cancel it)

It's around 6.5MB, so the texture issues might only occur when the size of the save file gets past a certain point.

Ok, mine is pusing 10MB so I'll have to see if a new game looks better.

Phew boy, Bethesda is going to have to call in reinforcement moderators to the forum once the patch is released in the US. Get ready for a [censored] storm.

I'm starting to think that half of the users with "issues" here are just the same 4 or 5 trolls that have nothing better to do than look to stir up a hornets nest.

No, i'm sure a lot of us have registered here lately because we want a [censored] answer as to why we can't play the game we payed for. Now with people saying the patch didn't help matters any, and some saying the patch made things WORSE.... well then, you can only imagine a [censored] storm coming.

I registered today after installing the patch and playing the game for a length of time. I have not posted any trolling messages, because I had faith in Bethseda to fix the issues and hopefully they'll be able to fix this one also. Posts from Bethseda staff say to notify them of issues and this all I have done because I actually want to play this game as it should be played. It's good you haven't been affected but clearly some of us have been and it's important to draw attention to an issue if we want to get it fixed.

Yes, it seems they've downgraded textures. This is not the case with all textures, but with some. I don't know if I would say they're drastically worse, but the downgrade is indeed noticeable. It is rather disappointing that Bethesda chose this solution.

Once you've saved your game while the new patched is installed, you cant downgrade by deleting your patchfile.

The old patch gets overwritten. And if you delete the update and start the game offline you will get a message, telling you that save file has been made under another version than your current version and that you have to update your game.

So you are screwed either way, since you will not be able to download the patch 1.1 from launch day.
