Grinding to level 81, Tips?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 5:50 pm

In Oblivion, I made a character that was maxed out in everything, BEFORE doing any quests. This was because of the funky leveling system. Then I could do what ever, at least that's what I thought. Turns out it was actually the most boring thing to play.

My Oblivion munchkin lvl 51 main char never got all skills up to 100... i couldn't do it :lmao:

Edit: You know what's really sick, i once made a mage in front of the gate... all magic skills to 100 and before i went out the gate i took atronach birthsign with that Altmer  haha

Actually, I think Luck was only 90 or 95 by level 52. I thought that getting that out of the way, in a Build-n-Play type thing would let me just concentrate on playing the game. It made it a big yawn. I said., "Never again". Then I joined the Oblivion forum :hugs:and those guys changed the way I would look at TES forever.

You focused on the wrong skills when leveling up.

Leveling Magicka based skills is so easy once you max out enchanting. I got to 80 "legit" by being a sneaky warrior. I trained in alchemy, pickpocket, smithing, some archery and armor. The key is getting gold to train every level. At level 64ish, I grind out Magicka skills, and end up in the mid 70's. Which just leaves topping off the skills I started out with my character.

I grinded a lot with Shadowmere, that was rather useful and also for training magic, use all your magicka points and then just wait an hour instead of waiting for it to charge. Oh and there is that equilibrium spell you can get (do not remember where) to grind restoration very well.

Block - never use it, I have hopeless reflexes and coordination.
I had that trapped Falmer down in Blackreach, the one near the Raldbthar Deep Market entrance I decided to grab a shield and work on getting my blocking skills up. The occasional miss also helped with armour and restoration. I would get bored and go do something else, come back later and do it again. After about 5 visits I eventually got block to 100, and of all things the little sod then leaves his hut to my astonishment. So maybe he is not stuck there after one of the patches?

Restoration - I am a chicken who usually never gets hit, I am more likely to die falling off a mountain or making an adventurous jump.
I tried the spikes we get in some places, too dangerious for me. But one of the Dwemer ruins had a nice flame trap near the front entrance, which was perfect for roasting and healing. Could probably also be used for block and armour.

I am addicted to collecting stuff and exploration, so alchemy and smithing is never a problem for me.

Sneak -Sneak everywhere and it should get up eventually. Find an enemy somewhere pretty dumb and sneak around him just for fun

Pickpocket - buy training as much as you can, grab some handy enchanted items and then practice, pickpocket them before you kill them.

Lockpicking - practice, even if you break all the lockpicks you are going to increase your skill level, if you are hopeless invest in a lot of lockpicks, or work your way up to am unbreakble lockpick by perks or quest. The thieves guild practice room, dungeons with lots of locked cells or even the Dragonsreach or Dwemer museum display cases are fun places to practice.

Magic skills I wait till I get a decent spell I can use frequently to get my level up
Alteration - transmute the ton of iron ore I saved up just for that.
illusion - I like muffle and invisibility but there are lots of fun spells to choose from
Enchanting - enchant a ton of small items using the ton of filled soul gems I saved up. Unenchant every single thing you can.
Conjuration - I svck at it, never good at magic and usually forget to get enough magika to do anything worth while. Working on it at the moment.

Reading lots of books to get skill upgrades is a good idea, and make sure to grab the training for each level once you can afford it. It is cheaper if you train for something you are not good at or cannot get easily.

I'm seeing that people are having difficulty getting speech up. Go to riften, and enter the Black Briar Meadery. There will be a Wood Elf at the front desk that you can repeatadly bribe until your speech gets to 25 by asking him what he thinks of Maven Black Briar. Then you can persuade him instead after youve gotten to that point. Pickpocket and lockpicking are the easiest to get normally, and pickpocket will only take you an hour or so, and lockpicking, youll just need to dump perks into to make the whole game experiance more enjoyable. Maybe go raid Main city dungeons to get at all of thier master locks. Most magic has an easy way to boost, and Youtube can help with those. All but restoration. For restoration, you can either bomb undead with high lvl turn undead spells, as Restoration levels on the basis of magicka spent or health healed. Youll need about 200,000 of these points to get to master.

Currently level 80 without using the glitch. Just pure grinding. Really not that bad actually. I would just focus on a couple skills at a time and switch every so often so it wouldn't be so repetitive. Make sure to use the stone that applies to whatever skills you are focusing on. Currently have every skill at 100 except alchemy which I have at 84 and been working on. Honestly alchemy is the worst. If you are training I recommend all your training for every level to go into alchemy.

I leveled my block, light armor, and heavy armor by doing the Animal Extermination quests for the Companions. Wait until you get one inside someones house, put yourself in a corner, and let the animal go to town on you. Block, don't bash, and you will still level that way. Lower your shield and your armor levels. I always found a safe spot that I could climb too out of the way of the animal to heal, working on restoration at the same time.

Buy the muffle spell and cast it while you sneak everywhere, leveling illusion at the same time.

Trade out dungeons going one handed one time and two handed the next - should level those skills very quickly.
