Can we all just agree to research things before we present them as fact? k

How about you agree to read the pages you link to? When I said swords could weigh as much as 12 pounds, it came from a page that you linked to rebut my assertion that a sword could weigh 10 to 12 pounds.

I will help you, scroll all the way to the bottom and it lists various real swords from a renowned armory collection in Europe that contains actual swords used by soldiers in war.

Claymores and other two handed swords were NOT purpose built anti-armour weapons. Mail is by no means easy to penetrate and the katana is not a particularily light sword. Swords as a whole (excluding falchions and other cleaver type weapons) are light, fast weapons.

read the section on greatswords.

Claymores and other sword that are alike where indeed made specifically for getting around heavy armor, the kinetic force from the blow of a claymore is what kills an armored person not the blade itself, they act more like a mace/warhammer but with a cutting edge for added lethality. Katanas were very light compared to other similar swords, the Japanese blacksmiths set out to make a strong yet light sword with the best cutting action ever made. Here you go have a read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katana#Forging_and_construction

Note that in the list of swords with the actual descriptions, ceremonial swords are included. Those you have mentioned are most likely parade swords which were commonly much heavier than actual swords used in battle. If you had read the article you would have seen a big pink box with these words:

"An ordinary exercise bar (available at most large sporting goods stores) is an excellent way to demonstrate how real swords were not "heavy." These 50" poles come in 9, 12, and 14 pound versions and comparing the heft of such weight to a sword blade makes it very clear how absurd a weapon of such mass would be."

The katana was actually quite heavy for a sword of its size; the article you have linked to does not say anything about weight and therefore your assertion remains unproven.
