No Harold in Fallout NV :(

Post » Thu Jan 27, 2011 4:11 pm

I just was wondering if any other people are sad that Harold will not be joining us in this adventure of fallout seeing as he was um used up in fallout 3?
I mean he was probably one of my favorite characters from fallout 1 and 2 I liked how they added him to fallout 3 but I dislike the idea of him and Herbert oops I mean bob being removed from play. Oh well just wondering

Yeah, bethesda screwed him over. I would have like to see what he would do with obsidians superior writing. What ghouls he would be hanging with.

I was sad when Bethesda rooted him in the Capitol Wasteland. He got a good sendoff, but now I'm going to miss him in New Vegas. At least it looks like Maxson Bunker is going to be in the game.

Don't worry, I'm sure Bob spawned while passing through. Plus Wild Wasteland garuntees his admission.

i would like to see Harold in some form, even if it's just a holodisk....it just wouldn't be Fallout without Harold.

...Actually, I take that back...because even a terrible Fallout can have Harold...though we wish it wouldn't.

Just because a character is good and has appeared in previous games in a series doesn't mean that character must always appear in future games, whether it would make sense or not. Considering Harold's situation in Fallout 3, it wouldn't make much sense for him to appear in New Vegas as well, and I'm fine with that, after all, I play sequels to see new things, not unnecessary recycling of old ideas. There's really no reason Harold should need to appear in New Vegas, he didn't even really need to be in Fallout 3, if we get down to it, or Fallout 2, for that matter. Rather than recycling old characters with the risk of potentially getting their characters wrong, I'd rather Obsidian focus on making sure that the new characters are as memorable as the old ones, and besides, it's not like we won't see other characters from older games, so there will still be some familiar faces to provide our nostalgia fix.

Well, to be fair, Dogmeat in Fallout 3 wasn't really the same character. He was just a dog named Dogmeat.

Neither was dogmeat in fallout 2.
Even if they aren't the same dog they're still named the same and look the same.

i think Dogmeat is less of a single dog.

and more of a title you know. like we all know that F3 dogmeat and F1 dogmeat could not possibly be the same dog.

he should at least replace the other non human companion if you pick wild wasteland

Doesn't matter if they're different dogs, they look the same, sound the same, are named the same and they're all companions so for all I care they're the same dog.
It's just an excuse so that Bethesda/Obsidian/Interplay can re-use "dogmeat" over and over and over again if they like to.
Like: "Oh but it's not the same dog, it's another one that's just named the same."
I find it to be a poor design decision.

This one guy here on the forums suggested Blood from A Boy And His Dog to be a follower.
We'd have a dog companion that isn't Dogmeat and that is really unique.
It's not a hard thing to do.
Just take a random dog, name him something else, and there you, you've broken the cycle.
I see no reason as to why that mutt has to be in every canon game (excluding tactics(I know it's semi-canon) and F:BOS).

But this is getting offtopic so I'll stop now.

That's debatable. Dogmeat in Fallout 2 will only join you on a number of conditions, one of them being your character wearing the Vault Suit. But since it's a special encounter I'm not sure if I'd really consider it really canon anyway.

After what he has become in FO3 I am glad he's not going to be in New Vegas. To bad when they made FO3 they did not foresee New Vegas. This way they could have kept him out of FO3 and had him in New Vegas as his old self.

There should be some kind of memorial of him in the game =( (dead or forever stuck to one spot, it would still be nice)
similar to the Lincolns memorial easter egg maybe...

Actually wouldn't it be possible for someone in Crimson Caravan to remember him and reference him?
Like: You want a story huh? Well, I heard from way back that this guy named Harold went away with a bunch of others and when he came back he was a freak of nature, yeah, this was back in Hubs glory days.

I made a little Vector Graphics version of Harold, but I don't know how to convert it so I could post it on Photobucket or Picturedump or something.

Harold is an important part of the fallout world. The guy has been around since the time of the master. Fallout 3 and new vegas, while providing us with the familiar suroundings of the old games, are very different games from the original and fallout 2. Harold is the one of the few things that tie the plot of fallout 3 to that of the original one and his absence in vegas would be a sad thing. But who knows, he may have found a way out of his tree.

( for those who say they killed him, i'm pretty sure they can just change the "official" plotline too say that you didn't)
