Has anyone ever been picked up by a dragon?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 4:56 am

Not what the thread is talking about

The lifting thing is probably a scripted action, since its guaranteed the kill the player if the dragon did it.

No player can survive being thrown that high due to the fall damage calculation.

It's a finisher, so the dragon would've killed you anyway. Works the same as the animation where the dragon picks you up in its jaws and tosses you away.

dragons die to fast to even sneeze. they need to be more unpredicable in flight with thicker hide/scales. Also other then frost or fire let the dragons cast shouts like paralize, poison, fear, lightning, blindness or how about an acid curse that eats armor defense and degrades weapon damage.

nope havent seen or experienced a dragon ever picking my char up and tossing him or any other npc.

of all the enemies in game dragons to me are the weakest of all creatures. They look nice but cant fight thier way out of a paperbag. Ancients on master difficulty can be a challenge but still to predictable in thier patterns.

Boost thier hide/scales
give them a massive hitpoint boost
create thier casts to be more leathal
less predictable in flight with ability to dodge shouts, arrows and resist spells.
huge resists they need

love the game but dragons in skyrim are very disapointing to fight.

I saw it happen to a few people when Alduin attacked Helgen, but that's about it. So I walk out of Windhelm and a frost dragon swoops down and picks up with its claw, ripping me off my horse. It then goes to a high altitude and drops me, making me fall to my death! I gotta say, I never knew they could do it. I was started to think they were just scripted events, but apparently they're not, just pretty rare. At least in my experience.

Screenshot or it didn't happen

I've been picked up by a few trolls before but that was my own fault for getting that drunk.

^ we're talking about the flying pick up not the bite.

nope and I had to wait around in Helgen to see it, I've not seen it happen once after that point.

I've seen th bite shake and throw sure but never the flying pick up demonstrated at E3, I'm waiting for a word from beth admiting it was scripted.
Not scripted, seen it a good few times.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone else find it funny that the E3 demo demonstrated a standard dragon using that finisher on a near full health giant, when in the actual game....said giant would have completely trashed the dragon effortlessly?

I guess that's why they called it a demo....

Is 'dragon' code for something? I've had a couple of 'dragons' try to pick me up, yeah. :yuck:

A slightly disingenuous demo.

Though, at least the relative ease with which we can kill a dragon was not exaggerated much.

I thought I saw it once, but i wasn't sure

I've seen it happen to a player once, but it's extremely rare for them to do the swoop and throw move it seems. You can probably go through much of the game and only ever see it happen once during a scripted sequence in the main quest.

It has to be rare, you have to stand on an hill, tower or at least somewhere flat so the dragon can fly by and pick you up while flying. You also has to stand still so it don't miss.

I've been picked up only once with my Argonian Dovahkiin. He was my first character and, to be honest, the weakest as I was still trying to understand Skyrim's gameplay. I like to think that dragon ended his misery as even high-level bandits were tough on him.

Now my Breton Dovahkiin has dragons for supper before she returns home.

Well if it was an ancient dragon, it would destroy a giant. An elder dragon would as well.

IIRC it wasn't though, was just a normal dragon so the giant would smash it to pieces ha.

I saw a dragon pick a giant and drop It leagues away like in the demo, although the giant was almost dead.

Not yet. Almost though. My character was bitten so many times that I'd thought he was gonna be picked up and threw away.
But I always move quickly away from the dragon's mouth before it gets me.

i've never had any dragon attack animations but maybe thats because i don't give a dragon the chance to..i have had kill animations on the dragon though which are cool.

I had giant smack me with his club so hard that i bounced off the ground and went flying high in the air...seen it happen to a npc too and a minute later he just fell out of the sky :)

Kewl, I haven't ever seen it. I did get hit 200m in the air by a giant though. Skyrim version of levitation.

I haven't had it happen to any of my characters, but dragons are so influenced by terrain that I'm not surprised or wouldn't be surprised if you need a large flat area, plus your health needs to be within the finishing blows animation range in order for them to pull it off.

I have a paladin type character now who uses no ranged attack and the only way he can get a dragon to swoop low for an attack or to land is to be on the right terrain. If your around very uneven terrain or heavily wooded terrain you can forget it.

However move to a wider open space and suddenly they start flying low, or swooping just over your characters head along with landing.

Spoiler
For the record though, I've only ever seen it happen with Alduin in Helgen and Odahviing in Dragonsreach.

Yep this actually happens in the game just get them down to about a third of their health and they'll crash.

Haven't seen the dragon pickup somethong like in the demo though. A shame too it was pretty cool to see.

Not a single time after the Helgen execution scenario when Alduin picks up an imperial soldier.
