Has anyone ever been picked up by a dragon?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 11:17 pm

I saw it happen to a few people when Alduin attacked Helgen, but that's about it. So I walk out of Windhelm and a frost dragon swoops down and picks up with its claw, ripping me off my horse. It then goes to a high altitude and drops me, making me fall to my death! I gotta say, I never knew they could do it. I was started to think they were just scripted events, but apparently they're not, just pretty rare. At least in my experience.

*raises hand* Yup, I made the mistake to try and fight my first ancient dragon head on. He picked me up, snapped my back in half and spit me out! So, a re-load was in order! LOL

Oh, I wish a dragon would pick me up and carry me into the sky! Now that would be awesome! :)

^ we're talking about the flying pick up not the bite.

nope and I had to wait around in Helgen to see it, I've not seen it happen once after that point.

I've seen th bite shake and throw sure but never the flying pick up demonstrated at E3, I'm waiting for a word from beth admiting it was scripted.

I've never seen or heard of this happening. Good to know that the E3 Demo wasn't totally scripted.

I've seen it happen to a player once, but it's extremely rare for them to do the swoop and throw move it seems. You can probably go through much of the game and only ever see it happen once during a scripted sequence in the main quest.

There's a death animation where the dragon shakes you and tosses you to the ground... if that's what you're looking for.

I *think* your PC only gets heaved up (or chomped on), if teh dragon makes the kill to kick in the animation. At least, that's the only time my PCs have been manhandled, unlike DA.

Not really, no. I assume it's possible if you have low enough health and they're flying by. I guess it's a kill animation if it's like that. In fact, I've never seen it pick up anything else, like in the 15 minute gameplay trailer they had.

I remember when I started again once, and when you have to jump through the roof after the dragon breathes fire at you. Well the dragon didn't breath fire, it just stayed there looking at me, I had to jump over it ha.

I call lie..you 'walk' out of windhelm and get swooped off your horse? You have to walk to the stable 1st where your horse awaits...it's cool if true but you sound like you want attention ;)

To clarify, I'm not talking about the bite chomp animation. I'm referring to when a dragon lifts something into the sky. It may work like a death animation as I've put hardly any points into health, and am wearing the ancient shrouded set so I'm not that protected. A frost dragon can 1 hit my if it bites me, and smacks its tail down on top of my head. For the animation to trigger, you probably need to have an amount of health where it can kill you in 1 hit.

I have, it was a finishing move on me.

I was low health (and level), and I was no match for the Dragon at that point. He essentially wrecked me, and right before I died, he grabbed me in his mouth and through me like 200 feet and I died.

Obviously I had to walk to the stables... I just thought that was so painfully obvious it didn't need mentioning. Don't believe me? Watch the video another user posted in this thread.

I don't lie.

Not what the thread is talking about

The lifting thing is probably a scripted action, since its guaranteed the kill the player if the dragon did it.

No player can survive being thrown that high due to the fall damage calculation.

Become ethereal, I jumped of a mountain with that active ha. You take no damage, but I'm not sure if you can use shouts mid flight, maybe in the dragons grasp you can use it.

It's a symptom of the way the camera tries to occlude things around the player. You can also see that kind of messy behavior when riding a horse.
