Have you ever just been too lazy?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:21 am

I think I have finally caught the lazy bug.

It's mid semester, have three jobs (P/T of course), a bunch of homework is piling up and is due next week, and I just do not have the motivation to do anything.

This is a serious case, and it just got serious...er..? I am really hungry, I can easily make myself or buy myself something to eat, and I really don't want to get off of my bed... and the worst part is that I am really doing nothing significant that is keeping me from getting up and eating. This happened last year and I lost about 5 to 6 pounds by the end of the semester. Not good for my health...

Any of you fellow college people or just people in general caught the mid semester/mid work week lazy bug? Any tricks how to beat it?

Yeah, I cpuld do useful things with my time. Instead I spend it here, or doing other unimportant things.

Get off your ass and make yourself a sandwhich, good man!

I find that once you start to get involved in work, it's hard to stop. Just get out of your bed to start, and than move on from there. You know that you have very important things to do, so knock them out before you regret it in a month or less.

As for me, I get it all the time. It's actually the reason why I failed two classes last quarter: Was to lazy to do the makeup work. Motivation came when it was to late.

If you can, try to turn the internet off for your school work. That really helps me when I am triyng to write my books out. That being said, if your school work requires internet usage, than just get some self control and do not allow yourself to go onto any other websites than those needed, not even Youtube to "get some music to listen to." I am sure every one of us are familiar with what happens there...

Cthulu's eternal hugs upon you.

I did not catch the Lazy bug...I am the Lazy Bug.

But I know what you mean. Mid semester really blows and I just bombed my Physics exam pretty badly. I will still get a B in the class but no A. :bonk:

Working and going to school is hard.... I get home from work and I'm way too lazy to even want to attempt homework.

ah, yeah, bout that... whatcha got on yer mind, buddy? in general, men (specifically men) will experience bouts of this sort of laziness. our minds happen to run on a singular track, for the most part, meaning if you are unsatisfied with one aspect of your life, then you will have a hard time focusing on anything else until that particular issue has achieved some sort of closure.

3 PT jobs does not tell as much as you would tend to think. yes, 3 PT jobs adding up to 30 hours a week is more stressful than one job at 30 hours a week, but but 3 jobs at 30 hours a week IS less stressful than one job at 40-50 a week. at least from my experience that was the case. So anyway, how many hours do you work?

FT student is pretty much an overtime job on it's own, considering the hours spent in class/doing homework each week.

Considering the time of year, my guess is youre reaching the end of your ropes as far as endless routine and nonstop work goes. You're either bored, lonely, or mentally exhausted. My guess is the last.

What can you do? Recover over spring break, which is coming up pretty quick. in the meantime, write a DETAILED schedule WITH times for everything you are doing on a day to day basis. Most, myself included, find the urge to get out of bed far easier when I have something planned to do. If you make a plan for yourself, and keep a mindset that the plan is of a "higher importance" sort, then you may find motivation easier.

If I am totally off mark with all of this, sorry. Anyway, motivation is the most important thing. You need to find some way to motivate yourself, however it may be, whatever makes you meet your responsibilities. Ask a friend or girlfriend to pester you to do homework, go to class, and go to work. Fact is, everyone is different in what is the best motivator. In general, it relates to whatever it is you are unsatisfied about in life. Schedule works well if youre mentally exhausted. Friend or girlfriend pestering you is good if you feel lonely (being as busy as you are, this is totally understandable).

Just be honest with yourself about your needs and wants. It'll get easier, especially with spring break coming up.

Go to sleep. When you wake up you'll 1. be ravenous 2. have motivation.

Every day of my life, in fact if you look up the definition of lazy in the dictionary you'll see a picture of me as the primary example of laziness.

I'm constantly lazy. Luckily, my major doesn't allow me to give into my nature; I have to find the time to be lazy first.

The sole purpose in which i get up in the morning and work is apart of my 7 tier plan to retire as early as possible, so that i can spend the rest of my life doing nothing and rarely getting out of bed.

This x100.
Luckily at this point in my life there's very few things I have to do on a daily basis, which is a good thing since I'm a Queen of Procrastination.

When I have to do stuff and can't find the motivation ... I do the usual things, like exercise a bit, go for a walk, take a shower/wash the face, turn on some rockin' music, slap my cheeks a few dozen times until I wake up, or whatever. Heh. The most important thing (for me anyway) is to turn off the computer and/or TV.

I'm not lazy, but whenever I feel "lazy" I still do what needs to be done, I just do it a little more grumpier than usual.

Too often, I sometimes just can't be bothered even to go and get something to eat. I'd instead just sit around moaning I'm hungry

Would be nice if we could all just sit and be lazy all day. But no this society we created for ourselves dictates that we MUST work and we MUST pay to live.

I've always said, getting up and getting started on something takes the most effort. Once you're going...it's easier to do. Just get up, wash your face, get some coffee or tea and seize the day. You may never pass this way again so don't miss it.

The love of your life might be just down the road at starbucks...go just in case and while you are there have some banana bread and an a latte.

But yeah, I often have to force myself to just get up and get started.

That sounds so like me. I have portfolios/logbooks due for Uni over the next few weeks, every week I say "I'll get them started this weekend!" and every weekend I think "next weekend...".. yeh, I lack motivation, often because I am bored of what I have to do.
If I'm really stressed/distraught I tend to lose motivation to eat aswell (opposite of people who comfort-eat). Sometimes I'll go downstairs, open the fridge, stare at the food, close it and return back to my room :P
