Hearthfire..... Um.. ok?

I am sorry if this has been talked about before... So.. The next expantion is just... Building a house? and raising a family? Either more women are playing these kinds of games, or I am very sad this is what skilled game developers are doing with their creative time.

Oh man. If you aren't trolling you may want to seriously rethink that part right there...

I don't know about Skyrim, but a poll in Morrowind mods put the demographic mix at 50% female. That said, I know plenty of male house modders.

I'm male and I'm very excited about Hearthfire. I have no interest in Dawnguard. I have not purchased it and probably never will. I am more interested in roleplaying than in killing monsters.

People have been asking for adoption for months. Not only female players. And I have a feeling that most of the ones who want the ability to have children of their own are male players. Or at least the ones who plays male characters... :P

For me, RPG's isn't all about hacking pixel opponents to bits and looting them over and over and over again.

Hearthfire is going to implement an aspect to help roleplay your character into the game, and I welcome the addition.

Well I feel sorry that you missed out on a really interesting story... Instead of just pretending to take care of something that isn't real..

Because fighting is so kewl and new roleplaying options aren't.
Nobody forbids you to fight dragons. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

The point about Skyrim is that it lets you play however you want to play. No two playthroughs, even by the same player, are exactly alike.

The tagline for Morrowind was "live another life" and the "sims" element is a core facet of the Elder Scrolls experience. You can ignore that if you want to - nobody is making you play it. You don't ever have to craft items or cook or sleep or eat if you don't want to. You don't have to purchase every DLC or join every guild or complete every quest.

My husband's way of playing Morrowind was to strip naked and run through the streets being chased by all the guards and townspeople. My way of playing Morrowind was to install the Necessities of Morrowind mod (where you have to eat and sleep) and Emma's adoptable children mod and Korana's house mod with loads of interactive features. It lets you do that. You don't have to.

Moderator note: knock it off with the "troll" comments. If you think someone's trolling, report them, but this thread will be locked for your comments rather than the original post and I may have to hand out warnings.

I'm excited about Hearthfire, I think it will be a good DLC by the looks of the trailer I think it is better than Dawnguard. Its nice that after a long quest you can return to your home which you designed and defend it against giants.

Is applies to me too. Skyrim has so much more to offer than 'go kill things', and I'd like to think that the male population has a broader range of interests than that.

Wow.... Well I always thought a good story and solid game play make a good RPG.... you know..... They should at least release a new perk tree with HF.... Why couldn't arcobatics be a perk tree... I would love to run super faster and jump high... another cool stuff.. whatever they can think of... over... a house.... with kids... JOY!

If that what defines an RPG to you, then that's all fine and dandy. But the "R" in RPG stands for "Roleplaying" and not "roflstomp".

I think this is an exciting step forwards.

I personally couldn't give two hoots about adoption, and I've never used the already in-built marriage feature either, though I like that it's there - and understand other players use those features happily. GREAT.

Personally I'm excited about a level of house customisation! (At the very least - a simple sort of house customisation!)
This is the next step to build your own fort/castle - which for me, would be awesome. I like the idea of "giant attacks" and "skeever infestations" and think that those are (again) the next steps to seeing bandit raids etc etc.

I hope that the option to build yourself some basic pallisade walls, hired guards and the like will be available...

Perhaps in time... perhaps a few of those feautres will already exist... we'll find out soon I guess...

Trying to roleplay in Skyrim is like trying to fit a round block into a square hole. The games was obviously made with mindless hack 'n' slashers in mind.
With mods maybe, but Hearthfire isn't gonna make roleplaying viable unless it changes a lot more than just having adoption and extra houses.

Nothing will feel better than bulding your own home from scratch. Why must we wait until the 4th ..... sorry I'm just excited for this addition. Does anyone know if there is gonna be a mechanic where we can rent out houses that we build?

Likewise, though the primary reason for my disinterest in Dawnguard is that the Vampire Lord form is forced third person.

Well, I want to fight dragons and clear out dungeon as well. But I also RP my characters to have an actual life. Family, relationships and somewhere to live are all part of that. So for me, this DLC sounds appealing. More than Dawnguard, since I'm not that interested in vampires and don't like being a werewolf (I will likely get Dawnguard anyway, if it ever makes it to PS3).

Trying to roleplay in Skyrim is like trying to fit a round block into a square hole. The games was obviously made with mindless hack 'n' slashers in mind.

Isn't this kind of DLC proof that Skyrim in fact IS more than hack'n slash?
