Here Comes Mr. Winter!

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 11:55 pm

For most of America (Alaska excluded) December was truly pathetic. Now, the Northwest has been hit by one of its biggest snow storms in years. Over the course of the last two and a half days my residence in Montana has seen over twenty inches of snow. I cannot even locate my truck, much less drive it.

So, I am stuck in my apartment for the next two days. How are the weather conditions in y'all's areas and what horror stories do you have?

You should go to the Caribbean and see what a real winter is like.

Do they go cross country skiing on the side of the road? I almost hit a skier last night.

There are lots of snow and occasional snowstorms outside. The snow is deep and almost solid, the ground is icy pretty much everywhere.. Pretty crap.

Got a bit of snow last week and then starting later tonight it's supposed to snow just about every day next week. Snow blower hasn't been running properly and the place we just moved to has a stupidly long driveway. :meh:

If I added up all the snow through the years that fell in Austin I would guess one inch.

Here in the Okanagan it's felt like spring up until this past week. Okanagan winters aren't cold and summers are very hot. But It's been at -20C (-4F), -30C (-22F) with the windchill. Not tons of snow, though we finally do have some. But man has it been cold, and the wind is not helping. And I don't have a car, so have to walk everywhere, that's what makes it bad.

Doesn't help the wall and window in my bedroom might as well not be there as they let the cold right through, and the heater doesn't seem to do anything. Wool socks, long johns, a sweater and a tuque to bed.

I'm from Pennsylvania where sometimes winter could be rough. I spent the fall at Keesler AFB, Mississippi, just outside of Biloxi which was right on the beach and it was wonderful there, though it started to get pretty chilly in the mornings (and we did PT at 4AM before class). Now I'm here at Sheppard AFB, Texas (in north Texas, in Wichita Falls) and again it's wayyy different than Pennsylvania.

For example, tomorrow's high at my (old) home is 34 degrees (F). Tomorrow here in Texas it will be 72 degrees (F). Loving it (and we do PT in the evening here too). It gets pretty cold at night, sometimes in the 20's and then it jumps to the 70's during the day. However the weather isn't consistent. One day it was in the 70's last week and then another day the high was in the low 30's. The high for Saturday is 48 sandwiched between two 70 degree days, Friday and Sunday.

I miss the snow, but it's great to walk around in shorts while my friends back home are shivering :P That said it was 110 + in Lackland during basic while it was in the 80's or so back in PA.

My next base is just outside of Arizona, so I have a warm summer to look forward to on the flight line :P

Albertan here. We haven't had snow but had a really bad cold spell this past week. We were sitting at 7C and the next day went to -35. Been that way a few days. Thankfully starting Saturday it's going to 2C again.

Haven't had anything too horrible here in Ohio so far, with the exception of last friday where it took me an hour and 45 minutes to get to college on what's normally a 45 minute commute. I was a half hour late to my first class, and if I hadn't left early I would have been fifteen minutes late to my second one. Thankfully my professor was really understanding about it. They probably should have cancelled that day because of how bad the roads were, but I guess they're reluctant to because of how early the spring semester ends this year.

Yep. Friday was the first real snow we got, and it showed because the guys who plow the roads weren't at all prepared for it.

Where we got maybe 1/2 an inch? Ice is all we get this year, and it still wasn't that bad. I guess you live up north because Cincinnati's response was horrible as usual. News - SNNNOOOOOOOWWWWWW!! then nothing.

I must have just been in a bad spot then. It was about 5 miles an hour for most of my commute.

From what I heard almost nothing happened, but there was news about a huge pileups, but I think that was something else.

And it's important to note that wet =/= cold, and dry =/= hot.

Spent two weeks in Queensland once during a storm, still 35C at night.

Not so much snow this year, but -42*C with the wind chill today here on the Canadian prairies

Always fun when the weather networks say "You're skin will freeze within 10 minutes of going outside with the wind chill".

Yeah we got that from you guys here now.

I live in the north in an unheated trailer and the temp iNSIDE right now is 2c or about 34 f
My fingers are frozen as I type and I can see my breath but I have a hot water bottle and lots of blankets.
I like cold - i fact I think it's cool to be cool.
Outside it's snowing a bit with about 6 inches on the ground.
