In-deed.

I find "politically correct" to be a bit of an odd way to describe "Christmas".

My one looks like someone's gonna get [censored] by a tall middle aged Englishman. Is that political correctness?

I can't get one to look right. But then I'm using paint to make mine and well...it doesn't work too well. If anyone would like to take a crack at mine I'd be more than appreciative.

Also. Political Correctness is neither political nor correct.

Or we could just call it Christmas avatars like what it is suppossed to be called and stop [censored] footing around people.

Edit: Can't believe that word is censored

This thread reminds me of a story:

I was in Jimmy John's, and as I was leaving the cashier said "Merry Christmas," and a woman (his manager, perhaps?) interjected with "or whatever holiday you celebrate." I had to turn around and say "None of the above, but it's not like I expect people to insert 'if you celebrate religious holidays, but it's okay too if you don't' at the end of every holiday greeting."

Or, we could recognize the fact that there's holidays other than Christmas and get over it. I'll agree some people take it too far, but it's not really advancing your case to dismiss entire cultures like that.

Aren't holidays what people do in the summer?

My Christmas avatar is the same as my usual avatar plus a Santa hat. Because Christmas is all about, er, chocolate.

Not dismissing, defending something that is a part of western culture and not wanting to see it diminished by the whole politically correct thing.

I have no problem with other cultures, I couldn't care less if someone made a buddhist appreciation thread here for a holiday in relation to that or any other event. What I do care about is people acting like they have to baby sit everyone elses feelings in case they are offended by something as trivial as a day of the year. A culture they have willingly walked into by logging onto an American game site btw.

It is this kind of rubbish that made a council in England ban the flying of English flags from cars during the football world cup.... in case it offended non English people /swear.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':swear:' />

Ever notice how people who put out these "Politically Correct" ideas and laws and bans and what have you are never actually members of the groups that they're trying not to offend? From what I can tell, the members of the group that they're trying not to offend usually couldn't care less about any of this stuff and in fact may actually be offended at the attempt not to offend them. And that's all that I'm saying on the matter considering that this is supposed to be a thread about Christmas/Holiday avatars.

So, I usually try to change my avatar in one way or the other when it is near a certain time of year, but considering that I svck at image manipulation I can never get it right and always end up just sticking with BartFly here.

I don't celebrate Christmas, but I think all this talk is a little unnecessary. If people want a thread about Christmas-themed avatars, AKA avatars with Santa hats, then that's fine. If people want to have a thread about Hanukah- or another holiday-themed avatars, then great. And if people want to have an all-encompassing thread about the holidays around winter solstice, then even better! But both sides need to realize that no one is saying it has to be "Christmas or nothing!"

"Holiday" includes everyone, even if you don't celebrate anything, because it's still winter solstice! /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

That said, I find the Santa hat avatars around Xmas to be amusing and enjoyable, but I'll pass on getting one myself.
