How to disable the low health heartbeat sound

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 3:40 am

I'm probably revealing too much private information but I have a severe anxiety/panic disorder that occaionally requires an emergency hospital visit for rapid heart rate with palpitations.

Sometimes when my health is low and the heart beat sound starts up it sometimes triggers me into having a panic/anxiety attack. Is their a way for me to disable this partcular soundbyte without disabling the rest of the FX sounds? I don't have any other problem with the rest with an exception to the heart beat sound.

If any of the gamesas staff members are reading this please take it into consideration to add this feature to your next release patch so this game can be more friendly to your costumers who have panic disorder.

I'm sure someone could create a mod that replaces the heartbeat sound with a blank sound file. :)

I had 3 very bad panic attacks that kind of messed me up mentally so I'm kind of senstive when it comes down to sounds like the heart beating sound since I feel that I'm having a palpitation attack.

If you never had a panic attack with rapid heart rate and palpitations just go to the game and purposely get your health set on low so you can feel what we panic attack sufferers have to deal with when were having an attack.

I absolutely hated the death music of Fallout NV, so i just created an empty text file and renamed it to "mus_death.ogg" and placed in the correct directory, that got rid of it :hehe: I bet the same thing would work here, if you could see the contents of the Skyrim-Sounds.bsa to see the file name and path.

This of course is only for PC, on consoles it would require Beth to make it possible

Listen, if that is indeed your case, then you should not be playing anything that has any intensity to it in the first place.

I'm colour blind and most games I've played don't have options to change some display options that I find hard to see. Like me you'll just have to deal with it or don't let your health get so low in the first place.

How can the sound of a heart beating cause someone to go into a panic, when decapitations, dragons, zombies and spiders don't? Also, look at SENIOR CINCO's post.

I meant no disrespect, in any way what so ever. I apologize if it may have sounded as such. I just meant that under that condition, with all the other things happening as highlighted, I would be concerned about putting ones self in that position to begin with.

because you don't understand what triggers what. I mean its just the effect of the palpitating heart that triggers the effect.

That was what I also tried to say, but I just said it in the completely wrong way and well.. I'm sorry if it came out the wrong way, which it clearly did. So, I'm sorry.

Clean up time ...... back soon.

OK, some posts have gone away, if you have nothing of value, on topic and helpful to add it is best not to post.

Back on topic. To change something like this, it will require a mod. It should be easy to make for folks who can do this. You may want to wait for the release of the editor so the mod does not mess other things up.

However, I would post a thread with [REQz] in the title, like [REQz] Remove Heartbeat Sound, over in the Skyrim Mods section. BTW, the weird little REQz is so folks can search on Requests. WIPz and RELz applies to mods in other stages.

I love the heartbeat sound. Makes me feel close to death :)

Anyway, to remove it... simply replace the relevant sound files with a silent sound file. You can google where to find a silent sound file. All you then need to find is the relevant sound files. Check the sound bsa. file. It will take some time to find.

That should be it.

With that condition you might as well activate 'God Mode' (assuming you are on the PC) then you will never hear the heartbeat. Like others have said though, with a condition like that I'm not sure this is really the type of game you should be playing.

I know the feeling. Anyone who has never suffered from a true panic/anxiety attack has no clue. It's easy for them to write it off. Sometime I freak out and start to think te heartbeat sound is my own. Do what I do. I think it's the best advice anyone can give you. Whenever health is starting to get low just use a restoration spell or a potion. Don't let it get low. This actually works.

I want to clarify certain things here. The OP is aware of what he is capable of handling. The problem here isn't so much what appears as content from a game, while he plays in the comfort of his home. So I don't like these suggestions that he shouldn't play. The problem he is having is the heartbeat triggers a reaction based on sound, color, and similarity to a beating heart. This has nothing to do with what he/she is capable of handling in a game. The game itself presents no added stress. The problem is more of a reaction to a particular sound and maybe color that may be in tune to closely with a stimulating effect on his own heart rate or how this beat develops a nervous reaction based on how say maybe being in a crowd of people with noise could cause stress and raise of heart rate which is in tune with the heartbeat in the game. Lets be clear. Its not the game violence, its the innocuous beat of the heart!?

Psychologically, this might be a good thing to do. Anxiety attacks come in part from a feeling of helplessness over a situation. Taking control of the situation that causes stress and rectifying it could be powerful stuff. Enough power to mitigate the anxiety.

This is something I'm familiar with, and there are so many things that go into this, its more than what one has the ability to overcome when this trigger effect is purely psychological and I would also say this is a good thing to familiarize yourself with this effect in a safe environment. But if the reaction is triggered as a biological effect this is detrimental to his/her own health. If anything the game itself presents a good safe environment to relieve stress.

Because then you have to take into account every condition there is.
Then we would have no blood, spiders, hight, water, weather, sound, color, blinking effects, no violence, no dialogues etc etc. basically we would have more fun staring into a blank sheet of paper.

Though I feel for you. What about muting the effects but keeping the music and dialogue on?

Have you tried calling tech support? I know on the x-box their are 5 sliders for sound, one of them probably covers the heartbeat sound, more than likely "effects" unfortunately it probably covers alot of other things also. But it may work until a mod comes out if your on pc, I can't see the pc not haveing similar controls. If your on x-box or ps3, I don't know. DLC's or patches may not cover this.

I have the music turned to 1/2 and effects to 3/4 and I really don't notice the heartbeat sound much, but I'm also not really listening for it either.

I did a very quick check, turned the effect's slider all the way to the left. Got my self killed twice and didn't hear the sound either time. Now that could be because I got killed to quickly or because it worked. Tried it a third time and put the "effect's" slider back where I had it and I heard the heartbeat sound.

I'm not 100% sure that worked, but it seems like it did. Call tech and ask or maybe have a friend play with the sliders ( sound controls ) until the sound goes away.

Maybe a way to play until a mod comes out if your on pc... I don't know that their going to do anything that would work on x-box or ps3.

The other thing to understand is that anxiety sufferers are actually super sensitive to light, sound, environment. Sometimes just being in a crowded room is too much for them to handle all that incoming stimulus at once. I feel there must be some way to lower the sound, I for one never even noticed the heartbeat myself.
