How do I get the falkreath land?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:03 pm

Hey Op, here's some help for you, I had the same problem, I did all the quests I could think of, and helped every one in everyway. (Spent the last 12 hours doing so) Then I found this out....

-Note that the starting quest for the Jarl to obtain a drink is a "radiant" quest that cannot be started if the Dragonborn is already on one of the following quests:
  • Getting the book The Mirror for captain Aldis in Solitude
  • Getting a Mammoth Tusk for Ysolda in Whiterun
  • Getting the book Song of the Alchemists for Lami in Morthal
  • Getting the book Night falls on Sentinel for Rustleif in Dawnstar
  • Getting an Amulet of Arkay for Torbjorn Shatter-Shield in Windhelm
You CANNOT become Thane if one of these quests are currently active. You must complete any and all of these quests in order to get the Jarl to give you the radiant quest to begin getting land. Once I finished all of these quests, I was given the right quests from the Jarl to purchase land. And it only took 12 hours to figure it out...

Why, in God's name... Would they make getting a book for the Alchemist in Morthal, make you ineligible for Thaneship of Falkreath? NO one without the Internet would have figured that out, well, at least not me.

Dear Bethesda, when adding new content such as this to your game please add a NEW NPC that starts the quest to obtain land so that is not associated with you may or may not have done. Why this was not done I have no idea. Unfortunately those that have progressed reasonably far in your game have a better than average chance of not being able to progress in the content they just PAID for. I have to revert to an old save and lose 90 fking hours of gameplay to be able to purchase land in Falkreath. Are you fking serious?

This obviously isn't the kind of game for you then. If you want a linear experience with every character being able to become everything at once there are countless console options available that would suit you better.

I got the letter to go to Falkreath. Unfortunately I was halfway though the Jarl of Falkreaths questline, he asked me to finish killing the bandits before he would progress with the land plot. Now my problem is that I had already killed the bandit leader of the dungeon he wanted to me to clear out. The bandit leader does not respawn for that quest (a known issue on the Skyrim wiki). So I have some [censored] Jarl telling me to kill a bandit leader I cannot kill before I can buy land from him. I have to revert a saved game back 90 hours to be able to finish his quest line. 90 hours! ......

Actually I don't want a linear experience, thats why I am playing it but thank you for your pathetic attempt at trolling son. If anything, the bugs in the game force it into a 'linear' game. Do this first or you won't be able to do this or that later. That is a common scenario for anyone that has put in more than 20 hours, maybe you should try it.

Not sure if anyone tried this or not, but I just tried to buy a house in Falkreth but I was told there was no house to buy but I could buy land. I bought the land and all is well. I didn't get a letter no matter how long I waited.

So, go ask the Steward, or Nenya if she is the Steward, to buy a house. You don't have to be Thane.

The only options I get is 1. How long she has been as steward and 2. Why is the graveyard so large. Something is bugged. I am already Thane and even doubled checked my weapons chest to see that I still had the Blade of Falkreath.

My only other desperate move is to start the Civil War quest and side with the Stormcloaks and hope that when the Thane gets replaced, something might fix itself. Except it is long enough quest to get to the Falkreath portion and I didn't really want to get involved even though it's part of the game.

You might have answered this question already, but I'll ask it again. Did you talk to the Yarl and ask for jobs and did he give you a task of bringing him Blackbrier Mead? You need to do that as well. Not sure if you have that option when you talk to the Yarl, but if you do try that and then talk to the Steward again.

Yes, I am already thane of Falkreath prior to HF. I've even tried a couple radiant quests, kill bandit leader and giant and nothing. I've even tried to dead thrall his dead housecarl. Needless to say, it didn't work.

I don't really know what to tell you then. It does sound like a bug of some sort, hopefully the dev team can fix that.

You're Thane AND not getting the option?

That's just crazy. There is something definately buggered up with this.

This is exactly my problem with trying to purchase land from Falkreath. My bugged "kill the bandit leader" is at Knifepoint Ridge with an arrow pointing at nothing. I believe it had something to do with one of Boethiah's missions which required you clear our Knifepoint Ridge also. I'm pretty sure the Jarl of Falkreath assigned me this quest because he says "kill all the bandits. leave no one alive" or something like that when I end a conversation with him. I'm beyond annoyed.

There can be more then one Thane. Look at Solitude. It has 2 Thane's. And i'm a Thane of Solitude. And Falkreath.

It was very easy, fast travelled to Falkreath then a courier asks me to go see the Jarl, he then asks me to kill a few bandits (which showed as cleared) on my map because I already cleared it at the beginning of my characters play through, went to the mine and found more bandits. Killed them all, returned to the Jarl, now allowed to purchase land. Easy.

That is false. I WAS the Thane of Falkreath, even though the Jarl's uncle is one too. It's an "honorary" title. I even have the Blade of Falkreath in my weapons chest to prove I'm not going crazy.

I figured I'd try to commit a crime and see if I still had the title of Thane. I killed a goat and a guard came right up. There was no option for me to use my thaneship. The game is broke and if Bethesda hasn't fixed this major bug overnight, then I doubt it ever will anytime soon.

For everyone's information, you DO NOT need to be Thane of Falkreth to buy the land. I'm not Thane and got the land by doing those "Rare Gift" quests.

Again, I didn't get a note no matter how long I waited. I was just given the option, by the Steward, to buy a house and I was told there was no house but I could buy land.

Doing the "Rare Gift" quest is part of becoming a Thane in Falkreath. If someone says they are Thane of Falkreath, then all those requirements have been met, including clearing so and so bandit camp. It's a bug for killing his housecarl.

I'm not the Thane of Falkreath because I haven't done everything yet, and I was still able to buy the land.

As far as killing the Housecarl, I'm not sure if that was a Dark Brotherhood quest but if so that I'm the head of the Dark Brotherhood and I had no problem buying the property. It's no t that either.

It's 1) the Rare Quests weren't all done or 2) your game is bugged.
