How do I get the falkreath land?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 1:45 pm

I'm not the Thane of Falkreath because I haven't done everything yet, and I was still able to buy the land.

As far as killing the Housecarl, I'm not sure if that was a Dark Brotherhood quest but if so that I'm the head of the Dark Brotherhood and I had no problem buying the property. It's no t that either.

It's 1) the Rare Quests weren't all done or 2) your game is bugged.

Yeah killing the housecarl was a side quest for the Dark Brotherhood it was one of the contracts you could get from Nazir... And sadly his death causes Siddgeir's disposition of you to drop and somehow negates being a Thane... I have been doing research and this is even a pain to fix with console commands... Through save game transfering from a 360-Pc version of skyrim using commands to change siddgeirs relationship, I was able to purchase the house, however the Housecarl still doesn't seem to spawn... If anyone can take my research, expand on it and find a complete fix let me know until then I'll just try to figure it out on my own and hope Bethesda puts out a patch

My other theory is to do the civil war quest line. Side with the stormcloaks and get the Jarl and steward replaced.

I had an old toon that 1. killed the housecarl during the DB questline and 2. liberated Falkreath (siding with stormcloaks) and was able to purchase the plot of land. As to getting the housecarl, I am not sure if you will be appointed one if you were thane prior to breaking the reputation and then replacing the Jarl.

After building Windstad manor, I am kind of fond of the spot. I didn't really like how Falkreath has that necromancer down the hill. It might interfere with fast travel. I might eventually do the civil war quest line and side with the stormclocks even though I hate them but not as much as I hate the Imperials.

Man wtf. I killed his housecarl months ago I have 252 hours in this game I can't even go back either. Why in the world is this a bug. Especially stemming from the Dark Brotherhood Questline which is one of the best. svcks. Did they rush this?

I am also having a problem.

I have not done the Dark Brotherhood with my main character so this isn't an option.

Neither the Jarl nor his steward are giving me the option. I have have been walking around Falkreath city looking for leads. I think I have done all the people quests. I cannot remember if I have done the bandit quest for the Jarl as I'm around level 80 and I've played a lot of hours containing many similar quests. I speak to the Jarl and have two options to ask. Both about him being young and the Jarl.

Nothing is presenting an option to buy land.

I already have the other two properties which are best part build and decorated

Sounds like you need to fetch his black briar mead. If you are on another fetch quest, that quest will not spawn. Assuming you have the original Jarl in place.

I have got a bug / glitch where I have completed the bard's college quest to find flynn's lute but for some reason it is still in my inventory and on my uncompleted quest and i am now unable to loose it. I think there may be a couple more quest like this. I have kill the leader at Nilmheim and again that won't wipe from my menu.

I am hoping this isn't effecting the quest

I just fast travelled to Whiterun and the courier ran up to me with a letter saying to talk to the Jarl of Falkreath. I went to him, he gave me a quest, I completed it and he let me buy the land. I didn't actually buy it until I had become Thane because I wanted a housecarl, but I had the option to buy the land just after doing what the Jarl asked me to.

I didn't get the option of asking for work when talking to the Jarl no matter what I did. I read this post and found out about the quests that could halt or not make that option appear. Found out that I had the Find the mammoth tusk for Yosolda undone, so I did that and went back. And voila! I am now building my nice almost at the beach house! And I didn't have to bother about my neighbour the Conjurer either. He was sadly killed by a giant spider just as I had laid eyes on my new property. Ain't life a [censored] :P

How does one do a console command?

Console is only available on the PC. Not sure how it's done in Skyrim, but back in Morrowind, it was activated by the ~ button

Windstad is my main manor though I purchased Lakeview and making that my more homely vacation home. Kitchen, bedroom quarters and probably storage room for the full deck. Thinking of Aela for my steward at that location, she just sounds fitting there. Plus she can be friends with my Redguard female housecarl.

Hey Op, here's some help for you, I had the same problem, I did all the quests I could think of, and helped every one in everyway. (Spent the last 12 hours doing so) Then I found this out....

-Note that the starting quest for the Jarl to obtain a drink is a "radiant" quest that cannot be started if the Dragonborn is already on one of the following quests:
  • Getting the book The Mirror for captain Aldis in Solitude
  • Getting a Mammoth Tusk for Ysolda in Whiterun
  • Getting the book Song of the Alchemists for Lami in Morthal
  • Getting the book Night falls on Sentinel for Rustleif in Dawnstar
  • Getting an Amulet of Arkay for Torbjorn Shatter-Shield in Windhelm
You CANNOT become Thane if one of these quests are currently active. You must complete any and all of these quests in order to get the Jarl to give you the radiant quest to begin getting land. Once I finished all of these quests, I was given the right quests from the Jarl to purchase land. And it only took 12 hours to figure it out...

Why, in God's name... Would they make getting a book for the Alchemist in Morthal, make you ineligible for Thaneship of Falkreath? NO one without the Internet would have figured that out, well, at least not me.

Yh. Thanks

It was the quest of getting the amulet for mr shattershield stopping me.

I'm all good now :)
