So, how good is dawnguard really?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:26 am

I'm on a PC and no I haven't played it but just wondering how good it actually is.

I'm still disappointed in the Thalmor/empire/stormcloak thing and its cliffhanger ending, as well as having the paarthurnax quest sit in my questlog if I don't kill him ( seems like a cliff hanger as well ).

Is there anything to look forward too from dawnguard? I don't really understand why there's a dlc about vampires lol. Is it good or not? Does it have anything to do with skyrim at all? Also how long is it, I've heard it's 20 hours for 1 faction, others say only 8-10 per faction. What the deal?

In my personal opinion it is worth the 20 bucks.I dont want to spoil anything for you but you should get it.Espically if you want to become a vampire lord, that guys nearly indestructible. Some of the quest get confusing but overall its a great dlc

Its good

If your a mage

Don't get it

unless you want to wear cool heavy armour and awesome warrior weapons with great archery crossbows from the dawnguard side

Or be a vampire

like I said if your a mage,

It may not be worth it

Nope, it is worth it, 8 new spells, a few very good mage power ups jewellery.

Definitely worth the money, even for a Mage.

Like others have said, there are many new spells, and some of them allow for a more rich Necromancer experience.

the Vampire Lords are pretty much indestructible as someone else mentioned, and if you're a Mage/Vampire Lord... by the Gods you become almost a Deity in your own right. :D

Buy it, you won't be sorry.

Some have said it's not worth it, some have said it is for mage.

I play a heavy armor dual hand weapon/bow so sounds like it should be pretty good for my build then.

As long as your not a pure mage, its most definenatly worth it.

They said it was 10-15 hours long, I easily got 25-30 hours out of it and still I havent completed some of the sidequests.

$20 well spent. I really like it. I've spent more money on games that delivered less satisfaction than this DLC, honestly. If you're a Skyrim fan, I think it's well worth it. Got me back into the game, which I had been pretty casually playing as of late but was still a ways off from fully "finishing" to begin with, so ... lots of fun so far. Love the Dragonbone weapons and the fact we can finally craft arrows (why couldn't we before? we've always had ample firewood).

Quest line is pretty fun so far, mixes old and new together. Soul Cairn was rather annoying (disorienting and hard to navigate) but that's probably a minor gripe.

If you're over Skyrim altogether, then I don't know if the DLC is going to do much for you. But, if you've got some Skyrim left in you, then the DLC certainly serves to invigorate things and is a nice tide-over until the full expansion or whatever is next, especially for us console folk who don't have access to mods.

Well worth it. I got 40 hours out of it from the perspective of the Dawnguard. If you rush through it without seeing what Dawnguard has to offer, then you'll be left wondering how it was worth it. If you take your time, have fun with it and see what Dawnguard has to offer, then you'll be very pleased with this. It's just like Skyrim, if you played through the main quest, it doesn't offer too much... It's when you delve into the actually gameplay content, when you see your money was worth it.

8/10

I thought it was definitely worth it. Some of the new npcs are really awesome and of course there's the new armor, weapons, places, etc. The questline was one of my favorites, even though I didn't care much for the soul cairn. Overall, it's a great addition to the game, imo.

So does it take place in a completely new area (like a fallout dlc) or is it an actual part of skyrim that you can just ride to?

Spoiler
Most of it takes place within Skyrim, with new dungeons littered around. There are 2 new locations (which you get to through a cavern or castle), which has it's own set of side quests. Soul Cairn and The Forgotten Vale.

Most of the DLC is in Skyrim, but an expanded Skyrim. There is a certain place that may still be in Skyrim, but you can't just ride to it. Then there's the Soul Cairn and the two castles. That's about all the new land there is. Oh and a few new dungeons.

8/10 from me. It's not perfect and I disagree with a few design decisions, but it's great fun and a very solid start to a hopefully long list of skyrim DLCs :tes:

I think it's well worth it, I'm still playing in the Dawnguard side. My character is a Battlemage, so it's very well worth it to him. I know I've run arcross some Item's that a ( In my opinion ) low to mid lvl pure mage would get alot out of. I'm not totally sure a high lvl mage would, but I've never managed to create a high lvl pure mage, I alway's end up as a spellsword or battlemage.

If your a vampire fan, well I would think it's just awsome then. I'm not, but I'm going to give it a whirl.

I think it's great I love the questline so far, even though it does take you back and forth across the map. I don't fast travel, I do get carrige ride's now and again though. I'd horseback ride if your followers could ( their's an Idea to add to a patch or DLC).

I'm enjoying it a lot. 8.5 out of 10 so far. I've spent 14 hours in it and haven't really done the faction questline yet.

It would be pretty decent without the bugs. Without the bugs you still have to deal with stupid design decisions though.

I would give it a 6/10. Transformations are pretty much useless as a werewolf or a vampire. Vampires did not recieve anything but aesthetic changes, so their spells are still trash. The backwards feeding is still in, so that's a negative. A lot of bugs, so that's another negative.
Spoiler
Dawnguard can become vamp lord, so another negative
and the annoying vamp attacks on cities and towns are quite annoying, though not as annoying as dragons.
