How good will PC graphics be?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:36 am

I was wondering how good PC graphics will be with Skyrim's recommended PC settings. Could anyone somewhat give a comparison to how good the graphics will be? Will the textures be flawless? Twice as better graphics than a system? Estimate Frame Rate? Etc...

Recommended Settings:

Windows 7 / other ones I forget
Quad core intel or amd processor
4 gigs if system ram & 6 gigs of hd space
Directx 9.0c nvidia or amd ati video card w/ 1gb ram
Directx compatible sound card

Nobody really knows. They will be better than console, of course.

Xbox is low settings on PC so it wont be too bad. Recommended will run it at high with maybe 40fps. Textures wont be flawless because they are compressed but it shouldnt be too horrible.

Xbox is most likely medium settings for PC, not low.

High graphics shouldn't be much more advanced than what we have seen in the official videos. I would love to be wrong on this but trying to stay reasonable here. It's not like the Xbox 360 is running a cyrix processor.

Better than either of the consoles, obviously. Since those don't look too bad, PC should look bloody marvellous on high/ultra, assuming you can run it.

Pete Hines has said that a good PC rig will make Skyrim's graphics 'melt your face off.' :celebration:

The only reason I'm asking is because I wouldn't want to end up spending a lot of money for all of the PC requirements, and the PC version only being a little bit better than console versions. If you now what I mean.

Pete said that xbox is low... Probably because PC can have huge draw distances or something.

You can't really say a video card with 1gb memory, my gpu has 1 gb, it's alot worse then the 8800gt which is 512mb.
Recommended gpu is GTX 260.

Looks good on Xbox I think...there's still the usual shadow and texture pops out of the circle "zone" your PC is in....that's no suprise to me, personally. I have this preordered for the PC, but with my system, I expect it to look only slightly better which might be moot, but I wanted to return to Elder scrolls on the PC, and it's a powerful machine that needs love. :)

I would think the PC recommended requirements would measure up fairly well to the Xbox version, minus things as mentioned above like draw distance. You'd have to get into High/Ultra to get above and beyond. This was the same with previous releases (and games in general).

Well, you're not wasting money, because the PC version is actually cheaper. It only set me back £27, whereas on the 360 and PS3 it is near £40. Big difference.

I admit some of the games I've played on the PC vs Xbox (or PS3) showed more gameplay improvements then graphical ones (of course, I'm not a graphics nut). Like in GTA 4, the traffic could be really out there with the settings up (really heavy rush hour stuff, heh), and so on. I look foward to a smoother experience and mods, but not the graphic improvements (those will be nicer it appears, but nothing I'd drool over).

Could anyone give me a list of preferred items for high/ultra settings then? And possibly a price for all of them together?

Apparently they will "melt your face off" which I don't believe, but I think that they'll look pretty good for what they are. The PC version will have texture resolutions twice the size of the console versions (512x512 (console) versus 1024x1024(PC)) as well as tons of graphics options such as AA and the like.

It'll have DX11 PERFORMANCE features, not graphical features. Just to be clear.

OP, look at this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1252929-unofficial-will-my-pc-run-skyrim-thread-51-w-hardware-guide/

It does. Rage on high settings with AA turned up...theres almost no comparison.

I've been playing for a bit and I'm sad to inform you that the textures on Xbox 360 - though I didn't expect them to - look not-so-great.

Don't get me wrong, Skyrim looks INCREDIBLE, even on the Xbox. Beautiful faces, water, design, draw distances, spell effects, dragons, and more.

It's just that due to the Xbox's limited RAM the textures are quite horrid up close.

If you're on Xbox and you've come to lower your expectations of Xbox games when you see ingame footage from the PC version, you won't mind at all, though.

The gameplay, design and frickin MUSIC make up for it.

Enjoy the game guys!

Dont rage about rage before you have updated your drivers. I belive that it looks better on PC than what skyrim will look like.
