How many skill increases to level-up?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 3:22 pm

I did some math. I heard all skills max out around level 75. there's 18 skills, so you should have 1800 total skill points by level 75. with racial bonuses and assuming base starting skills are 15, everyone starts with 305 beginning skill points. round it off to 300. 1800-300= 1500. We need to gain 1500 skill points to get to level 75. 1500/75=20. so on average we need 20 skill points per level to level-up. Is this how it works or is it more complicated?

Pretty cool story, wasn't it?

I've read somewhere in these forums that the higher the level of the skill, the bigger it's contribution to leveling up :unsure2:

Skills max out at 100.

Pretty sure the 75 was referring to character level not skill level.

You didn't say level.
I heard skills max out around 75.
Sounds like you think the skills max at 75.

Wasn't willing to check your math after I saw such an obvious mistake. But it seems it was just poorly phrased.

Well, your version makes sense for previous games, but I think that they've changed leveling system for Skyrim a bit.
Have no idea in which way and have no way to prove it, it's just my speculation.

So possibly, at later levels it might take more skill-ups to reach a new level?

I could calculate it if anyone wants me to ask and I will but it'll take some time.

I certainly hope this is true. I would very much enjoy revolving around a main skill, such as Destruction etc and still level up quickly enough.

Can you do it before 11-11-11?

I'm pretty positive that each level has a different amount of Skill Levels needed, increasing as your overall level gets higher and higher. It's not set to a specific number of Skill Levels like Oblivion's 10.

Not to mention that leveling up higher level skills effect your overall level progress more.

So, as example, say i was level 42. Leveling a skill from 10 to 11 might increase my level progress by 3% (random low percent i made up) but leveling a skill from 70 to 71 might raise it by 20% (again, random number).

Leveling is more fluid in Skyrim.

I remember this from multiple previews, but i'm not sure i'm 100% accurate. here is the UESP: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Leveling

I doubt anyone is going to sit there and COUNT their sword swings to match up to the math.
You see a bandit, stab him. You smell a goat, blast it with a fireball. Eventually, you'll get to level 2 and 3 and so on. :goodjob:

Pretty sure its 10, from the videos, even the e3 demo looked about that judging from how far the progress bar moved. I know it doesnt add up but they did say leveling after 50 was slower so maby that means after 50 you need more skills to level up like 30.

From what I understand it changes based on your level and the level of skill, leveling up each skill adds exp to your character level and higher levels skills add more exp. So at lower skill levels it might take more skills ups to level than higher level ones, but those high level skills take more time to increase.

What georgeguy007 said basically.

Good thought...I bet # of skill ups per level increases slowly until around lvl 50.

I am at a loss as to how you could calculate it.

Let's say you HAVE the game... in that case, no calculation needed. Either look at the code, or play the game to max level and record the stats.

Let's say you don't... in that case, you don't have the data.

That was my understanding when it was explained. Don't think it's a set number of skill raises to gain a level. but like georgeguy007 said and revolves around gaining a different amount of experience per skill raise depending on the level of the skill and the level of your character.

It would be nice to know the mechanics of it all, but if the system works fluently then It's not as much of a concern then it was with Oblivions messed up leveling system.

My understanding is that every time you gain a skill point, you gain some XP, which applies towards leveling up. The higher that skill is, the more XP. So let's just say your one handed skill goes from 20 to 21, you might get 21 XP. If it goes from 90 to 91, maybe you get 91 XP.

Levels require higher and higher XP, per level, and if you max everything out impletely it will take you into the mid 70s.

So there is no set amount of skill points per level, but it averages out around 20 per level. At lower levels, 5-10 will probably do it.

Without the game. Little data. Based on the stats of oblivion combined with info on this game it is as best guessed at 49.3942 keeping in mind different levels give different numbers toward leveling.
