How many of you bug tested?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 2:53 am

Just a thought as alot of new members said they weren't going to bug test. How many of you bug tested? Note this is a thread for those who got the beta. No one make smartmouth comments about how there should be an option for people who didn't get the beta :P

Let's just say that we had a bug index (whom DarkRider kept updated and very tidy for us) that was at something like 20 (or was it 30?) pages long of bug discussion, as well as a seperate thread that broke 10 pages, and various threads that were 1-2 pages long discussing individual bugs.

Alot of us were very dedicated in spotting/posting bugs, and I personally have tested various bugs EXTENSIVELY and found what was causing them.

PS: DarkRider is amazing, everybody should be thankful we had someone like him in the beta.

As a Group we did well. As you might've guessed not everyone who gets the beta code report bugs. But, It didn't really affect those of us who were dedicated to helping Bethesda. We picked up the dead weight as best we could. Im not sure exactly how many people bug tested maybe around 100 tested but maybe all in all maybe 200-300 people slected

I'd guess that Bethesda chose somewhere around 300-350 people to participate in the beta, and around 100-150 of those actually posted in the beta forums actively. If I recall correctly, a poll Gstaff did about which side people were choosing in the DLC was at around 80 votes, give or take. So take that as a sort of indicator of how many actually checked the forums, I suppose.

Yea, DarkRider should get a medal, that was an incredible index.

you wanna know how well we bug tested?

I personally had a small journal that I wrote the date I was playing, the time, and all system and game information possible to retrieve for every single bug I ran across. Every night I would post what I had encountered in detail so the developers could zero in on it.

I know this was the method of quite a few people I talked to over there.

Tried that too! It got tedious as I didn't have problems with a lot of bugs, just a couple.
But dark riders bug index emporium helped get those bugs noticed.

I am excited to re-download the patched version ^.^ I just made a new character (again) just so I could play through it patched.

I made a file in notepad of my system specs that I pasted at the head of every "report" post, in the Bug Index thread.

I would play through a questline, usually three different times, in an attempt to break the game. Doing things like...
  • Exiting dialog early
  • Trying to get stuck in terrain
  • Bypassing quest stages
  • Punching and or flat out killing any given NPC. (this was fun at times)
Then, when I would find a bug, I would reload and try to duplicate it and narrow down the potential problem. This reload process was always ran 10 times. Then the results could be solid information to pass along to the developers.

I even submitted a save file for them to review. I hope something productive came from that.

You can play the DLC without ever doing the MQ if you choose.

You can do the DLC at level 1 as well, you just won't hear any rumors of it. Also, it's geared for higher level players (as Todd Howard explained in his interviews) so good luck if you try this.

If you want to prepare a character for tonight...

I found that at level 30 everything seemed to be at an exceptionally good balance.

I will say this...

I played through the Beta with the settings on Novice and tried to be as buffed out as possible, without using any exploits. I started a new character for the Beta as to have a completely clean save to test from and not potentially "tainted" by some unsuspected and/or adverse effect from using an exploit. It made no sense using a glitch to find glitches. I needed a clean "control".

Having said that, I do look forward to one Dragon fight in particular. This time I will be with a different character and the difficulty will be cranked up. It will be quite interesting to say the least.
