How many of you have beaten the MQ?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 3:28 pm

Just curious as I just finished it yesterday after over 150 hours of playtime since release and I though I still kind of rushed it a bit

Also which was your favourite and explain. Thanks

Yes, I finished Skyrim's main quest.

My favorite is Morrowind's, it appeals to all of the things that got me so interested in TES lore in the first place. The Dwemer, mortals ascending to godhood, Vivec, Dagoth Ur, Lorkhan. It's just gripping and always makes me feel like learning more.

That said, all of the games have really good main quests. Skyrim's is a close second.

I have. Only other TES i've completed was Oblivion, and compared to that Skyrim has better MQ. Especially the final stretch
Spoiler
"World Eaters Ayrie" and Sovngarde. And of course Alftand and Blackreach.

Even though i'm a weirdo that liked Oblivion Gates, Skyrim did it better :teehee:

While I think Skyrim is the better game, Morrowind's MQ is most certainly the best.

Yes, and Skyrim. I am a huuuuge Morrowind fan, when Oblivion came out there was no end to the [censored]ing I posted here on these boards. Skyrim and Morrowind's MQ's are hard to compare, Morrowind was a slow burn ultimately culminating in a relatively anti-climactic battle with the bad guy. Because, I paid no attention to Skyrim hype... the fact it was a fast burn filled with epic BOOOMS and WOOOSHES etc, etc. It hit me really hard and loved every moment of it.

Oblivion's was meh, it was a fast burn but without the pay off. You werent the guy who saved the world, you were the guy who got the guy who saved the worlds coffee.

Skyrim's main quest was pretty good. The presentation and excitement stayed high throughout. There was a little absence of characters and resolution, but the rest of the game fills that in pretty well. (The sidequests are excellent, especially compared to Oblivion.) Some questions that are brought up in Skyrim simply aren't answered by the main quest. I won't spoil it here.

But, in the end, I think its Morrowind for me. The backstory for the main quest was superb. The gradual lead in was great and it took you hopping over the entire world. You got involved with lots of factions in the Morrowind main quest. It was even part of the explanation of the main quest that you go around and do a lot of random quests (i.e. you need to blend in as a member of the Blades)! The villain even had some explanation and sympathy, though still clearly evil.

Skyrim and Morrowind are the best of TES, at least that I have played.

I'm not sure. I never finished Morrowinds MQ since the game was so big in the first place. I didn't even ever finish any of the questlines there, as they were all so long and fun.
Oblivions was great, but it was also my first TES and bethesda game, so I'm probably a bit biased.
Skyrims was great, but short. It had some branching which is good, but the Elder Dragons are harder than Alduin.

It's hard. From what I've played of Morrowinds one, and the other ones I'll have to say... Tie. But Morrowind could compare about 3/4 in so I will say Morrowind.

Hey for the sake of curiosity and poll-accuracy, let's list which ones we've played and finished the MQ in as we list which one we think best.

Played and finished: Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim

Best MQ: Morrowind

Yes I have. I have completed the MQ's for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim.

I voted Oblivion as my favorite, but I don't know that I really do have a favorite. I didn't think that any of the main quests were like, incredibly memorable or anything.

One had you running back and forth from the ashlands and to various towns, with minimal forms of fast travel, and an atrociously slow running speed. The main quest entailed you going to a bunch of different groups and getting them to call you the Nerevarine or Neravar.

Another had you running through a bunch of ruins, dungeons, and Oblivion gates to bring back a bunch of artifacts to open up an even bigger Oblivion gate to face off against the main boss. Then there's a somewhat exciting and epic battle in the streets of the Imperial City, and an impressive sequence of God vs. God action.

The last one had you running up and down a really tall mountain, fighting a bunch of dragons, and reading ancient walls, before finally journeying to TES's version of Heaven to face off against the bigger dragon.

I finished it and

I was kind of let down by it. The last fight with Alduin being nothing more than a typical Dragon battle was extremely anti-climactic. The battle-field was very nice, but the battle itself fell flat for me.

Morrowind was my favorite because the storyline made Dagoth Ur out to be a much more forbidden and intimidated foe. When I actually came face to face with Dagoth Ur, I had this sense of "Wow I have come all this way and now here is the foe I have been searching for all along."

I think it's due to the length of time difference. I feel something is much more formidable as an enemy with the more time I have invested in it. I beat the Skyrim main quest in a brief time frame compared to Morrowind.

Having said that, in today's age we see a lot of DLC, so I know it's not over yet. There are still over a hundred quests for me to complete in the game and tons of stuff to craft and find.

But you have to admit, that the "I've come all this way" is because of the sense of exhaustion from fedex quests only gotten to on foot across such a large barren wasteland. Skyrim hasn't at all diminished MW for me, and it could very well be that I haven't played MW in 5-6 years therefore forgot how awesome it was. But, I loved the MQ in Skyrim and also love the fact you have to make a really hard judgement call near the end of it and live with the consequences of which ever way you go.

Yup, pretty much this. The lore behind the Morrowind story was just richer and deeper. I guess we have to thank MK for that.

Skyrim's story disappointed me in pretty much every way. In Oblivion we at least got an interesting speech at the end from the villain. Skyrim's quest has no closure at all, it just ends. Heck, they don't even roll credits. :P

I've beaten the MQ but I can't compare as I've never finished the MQ in any other game. I only played Morrowind for about 50-60 hours, but I put about 400 into Oblivion over two charcters but never went that far in the MQ.
I decided to do this one just for kicks.

I like Skyrim's MQ better than Oblivion's, but I preferred Oblivion's MQ over Skyrim's 'cause, to me, it felt like it had a... grander scope, I guess?

Hope that made sense. I'm horrible at explaining things.
