how to stop no lifers from becoming to OP

Post » Thu Oct 10, 2013 1:18 pm

most people in the world that will be playing ESO will have what we like to call a LIFE. which means they have kids, pets, responsibilities, etc. But what of the players that dont do anything or have anything to do? they will become extremely over powered in alot of ways. how do we fix this? if you have played in the span of the 24 hrs, more then 10 hours, you get a semi perma debuff that causes stam to regen 1/4, health regen is 1/2, and magika is 1/10. All 3 get cut by 25% and your resistance is cut by 25% as well. Just an idea

No.

It should be a fair playing-ground for everyone, even if they're willing to spend a large amount of time on it. They put the effort in, they should get the reward.

I say, if you invest a lot of time into the game, you should be rewarded for it. Otherwise there's no point in investing more time than anyone else into the game.

Also generalizations about how people play are bad as always. To assume only those with "no life" can achieve things is just silly. In my many years of playing MMO s so far the ones I have been in guilds with and friends with that have been the highest achievers and those with the best gear and stats have been those with family's, careers and responsibility. Its all in time management, you don't need to "no life it" to get ahead, you just need to manage your time, set goals and keep working at it.

I have all of the things you mentioned above and still manage to play more than 2 hours a day.

Get over yourself and accept the fact that more time spent = more gained. This is how video games, and life in general, work. Nobody is going to be penalized because you don't have the time or will to play for longer periods of time. You are awarded no benefits for having responsibilities in real life in a video game.

This is one of the worse ideas I have ever heard and it makes me sad while dealing a heavy blow to my already faltering faith in this community and humanity in general.

Thanks, OP.

You know what they say. The more you do something the better you will become at it.

Those players who will play alot have deserved to be overpwered because of their dedication to the game.

I don't think having gear before someone else does is overpowered. Its not like you can't go out and get it yourself. If they were somehow able to obtain buffs or other things that everyone else couldn't, that would make them overpowered.

I think there would be little evil about a time limit of maybe 5 hours per day in average (of course it should be ok to save time for weekends, holidays or comparable situations - in average). This would not even affect most of the players but it could help those player in danger to get addicted (of course this could be bypassed - only a first step). MMORPG have the great potential to absorb players with not such a simple life like most of us live - bringing them in an even worse situation. Of course it will not happen because freedom of the individual is in USA far more wanted than responsibility for the people around. But in principle the provider of such games should care for their players.

A german socialist ;)

If I'm paying a sub fee, than I expect to be able to play whenever I want.

Like @Carde said, I have all the things the OP mentioned and I still rank high in most games that I play. It just comes down to efficiency.

That's also what rested experience is for. To help people that might not have alot of time catch up.

This is just a flat out not gonna happen anyway in any game ever, so its ok.

Artificial limits to well anything is just a bad idea.

They already have incentives in MMOs for people to take a break called rested xp which is a boosted xp earn rate based on amount of time spent logged off in towns ect. I would be extremely suprised if there wasn't some form of this in ESO at launch.

There is a much better option than what the OP suggested.

Make combat skill based rather than gear/progression based. That way combat comes down to who is the better player more often than not.

Now, your time should still be rewarded with more skills, better gear, ect. But those rewards shouldn't make it impossible for other players to beat you.

Given what they've said so far though, I'm fairly certain they are already doing this and balancing it well. Someone who isn't level 50 can enter PvP and at least be competitive against true leve 50s. Will the people with more skills and better gear have an advantage? Of course. And they should. But you should still have a fighting chance against them.

everyone has a fighting chance in Cyrodiil 1vs1

problem just is

people who do less, should not be promoted. you should really invest to the game, time and effort, and when you win you should know you did it coz you were better, not bechose you had +50 to all stats due of being against a HC PvPer.

like wtf, seriously ?

if i was fresh 50 i would be butthurt if i would get adventages of it to just have a good chance against a perfectly geared PvPer who really knows what he is doing.

i want to learn the game, the hard way, its more rewarding.

I pay $14.99 a month you pay $14.99 a month, I will play as long or as little as I want, I will spend my time getting things in game, might take me longer than some might not, that's just the way it is.. /shrug

Ehm, how about no? The people that have the most dedication should also be the ones to reap the benefits. What you suggest will have a very negative impact on the game, and I half suspect you're doing it just to troll. "Casualism" (yep, made it into a word, not sure I'm the first) ruins MMOs. If you can't stand others having an advantage on you just because you can't put in the hours, then don't play, or adjust your life so you can put in more hours.

It's just a game after all.

I'm sorry you can't manage more time to play a game ninelives, but I work a full time job, pay the bills, and take care of a house all on my own, and I still think you're wrong in needing a "i have a real life" in-game buff

If someone actually works at something, even if it's "intangible" and "just a game" and "real life is more important", then they should reap their own rewards. I think they should be balanced rewards, only the best-of-the-best should get close to super-OP status, but no "catch-up buffs"..

It would only reward people for logging off for a while, and take away from what the people who put in the time and effort did that work to achieve.

But I do have a solution for you...

Stop sleeping.

OH i know!! how about we take all the stuff from the people that spent so much time and worked so hard for and give them to the people that have been logged out that entire time!!!

It's like saying I pay for gym membership and don't have as much time to work out as my friend.

Can you nerf my friend who gets to work out more so is better toned than me? Just so he wont be better than me.

If people get to play more so be it. Don't punish others for playing how they want or for playing more than someone else.

A game that limits how long you play or your efforts will be tossed aside in favour of a game that doesn't.

Last I looked it was a subscription based MMO where you are allowed access 24/7 except for maintenance and server down times. So if I have paid my subscription I should be allowed to login as often as I want to and for as long as I want to. My job is seasonal, and I am at the point in my life where I do not want or need to work all year long. So each winter I get laid off for about 5 months and during that time I play my games a lot, why should I be penalized for that?

The OP needs to rethink this because its ludicrous to say the least....

Unfortunately, the OP isn't the first to suggest something like this and probably won't be the last.
