How will thieves work?

You're right, actually  I guess I hope someone will do it again, and better as well. I think EVE is probably closest right now, but it's just not my cup of tea. The old SWG was a good example, until they "wowified" it...

The "problem" with MMO's is that any company able to invest enough to make a AAA title, wants to have huge subscription numbers. To get these, they will try to make a game that offends the least amount of players. So there has to be balance. Everyone should have acces to everything. Etc. etc., we all know the WoW-formula I guess. Now I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad type of game, I enjoyed a few for quite a while. And even though I am done with it, lots of people stil enjoy these games.

It just puzzles me that no company seems to think "hey, the WoW-like market is cutthroat competition and loads of games fail, but there are quite a few MMO gamers who want something different... maybe there's money there!?".

I must admit, though, that I haven't really been keeping up with all the new MMO's lately... I hear Darkfall mentioned often when "sandbox" is brought up, and they have a 14 day trial, I might give that a go.
I already tried darkfall. I got player-killed by a few alliances all the day. So call me a carebear, but this is the exact opposite extreme. Its a 100% pvp sandbox that allows you to [censored] the [censored] out of everyone. This gameplay is VERY niche.

And this is also a problem for the developers of our days. If they hear sandbox they only can imagine exactly this type of game. There is no room between wow( consensual pvp + 100% combat oriented pve gameplay) and and a PVP-Sandbox (full of peoples who want nothing but to kick your newbie ass). The devs have something like a brain blockade in this matter.

You all seem very optimistic that they will create an interactive PVP game world, and not some generic PVE title with PVP elements.

No they don't, they just like to copy systems that have been proven to work. But most of the time they do it poorly.

Like all World of Warcraft needed to be a great, was PVP mechanics supporting World PVP. Meaning the second you enter the game, you just joined the largest Battleground Match ever. Everything is scored, all the statistics kept track of. Why didn't they? They could have even made it a bit Planetsidey. Fight for bases, for resources, get side bonuses. Earn, hmmm- Kill points! Use them in vendors. Be rewarded, get titles. Even add the option to go rogue, add bounty hunter mechanics, bounty hunter boards. Notorious players.

And all the while, you can keep your "safe zones". Even make it so PVP rewards XP like PVE.

EVEN, create two seperate servers that work entirely different! I just don't understand, WHY they don't like doing it this way. They like making instances, for everything, it makes things garbage.

I'm still absolutely floored that people are somehow jumping from the announcement that there will be a Thieves Guild to the conclusion that there will be no thieving allowed in the game. Reading some of these posts gives me a headache.

If that perplexes you then prepare to be even more perplexed when you find out that they are right.

well im sure they wont have any player on player thieving. but in a limited sense im sure they will have something that caters to that.
you people need to get it out of your head that you are playing the same kind of game lol. i wish we could do some sort of pickpocketing on other players. but i would like it to be impossible for someone of your faction to pull that crap.

Not really. Because right now people are just playing a guessing game. So while there's always a chance they're right, it won't be because they were thinking about things on a higher level than the rest of us poor sots. It will be because they had a lucky guess.

Based on the information we have right now, there's no reason to conclude that there's no thieving in the game.

If I want to have a character that I loot and rampage with, I should be able to, as that is a core TES experience.

This is TESO, not single player TES. They've already shown what the game looks like, confirmed hotbar/cooldown, 3rd person. Going on Morrowind style free form rampages isn't going to happen. Your character will die, and respawn in a town or hotlink point or whatever MMO convention they use.

You'll Q up for raids, /group with others, PVP in arenas. Considering it's from DAOC, expect some fairly well thought out PVP, but I've yet to see truly balanced PVP in an MMO. Usually one faction has more players than others and it ruins the intended balance.

PVP thieving is doable, but only in PVP zones/servers of course.

Nothing is more annoying than getting "griefed" in a PVE mmo and not being able to do anything about it. I'd imagine thieving would be something you can do in combat, or go stealth in combat and sneak/steal a few pennies or whatever.

Stealing Daedric Artifacts? not gonna happen
