How do you unlock the high res textures for the PC?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 5:43 pm

360 owners are saying that downloading the CD to thier HDD mucks up the textures. Apparently they look really good if you run it off of the CD. PC users don't have that option, which could explain why our textures look as bad as consoles.

I really don't see the big deal. Yes, it would be nice if Bethesda included high rez textures at launch for gamers with machines that can handle it. But even if they did 90%+ of us would replace them with the first “High Rez Texture Pack” that is released anyway.

The quality of some textures are of a 2003-2004 standard, which is ridiculous for a 2011 game.
Right? That cow's(?) texture looks no better than a bear from Morrowind's Blood Moon EP. Come to think of it, the animals I saw (mammoths, wolves, horses & wabbits) in various pre-release shots looked pretty bad, too. I just assumed they were from an early version of the game.

Maybe it's not as bad as it appears? Could be compression on the pics in the link. Could be some mixup or missing files from Steam. Maybe a hardware/software issue. I find it hard to believe that gamesas would release such a low quality graphics game for PC.

There's a comment saying that choosing Ultra in the launcher does not set everything to high and that if you switch the settings the outdoors look better. My game will be unlocked in 1h and 45min so I can't comment on that yet :) Check out his comment and pics.

Nice theory, but GTX 580 users can't even max the game without dropping to 30-40FPS. High Rez Texture Pack may have to wait until Bethesda sorts out their graphics-drivers issues or it will be a waste of effort resulting in an RPG slide show.

Have to agree ,I am very disappointed with ultra settings.
Keep in mind that i was born in 1971 so i have an appreciation for game-play over detail ,however in this day and age with the tech we have ,is it wrong for me to expect higher quality textures from Developers rather than waiting for modders?
Good Gaming

You release the new generation of consoles, thats how. I mean, seriously, you guys knew that this was being developed for consoles. But still you act all surprised when the game doesn't have uber-textures? Come the [censored] on. How moronic can you be. The game still needs to be able to run on a [censored] console.

A moronic statement to assume everybody has read every article about Skyrim. Some people work and have lives outside games, only people with no lives sign up to forums just to abuse others.
And i still don't think it's such a"moronic" request to ask for better textures from Bethesda.
