No HUD - who else?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:26 am

I just started a character and I'm not using any HUD what so ever. After the initial brain bending, I actually quite like it.
Its hard to get used to archery, but once you do its pretty fun.

Anyone else doing this?

How is it for archery? As a Bosmer archer at the moment I am interested to know how good the aim is when that crosshairs is not there.

This was one of the first things I did. While it's a pain sometimes doing quests where it's very obvious Bethesda expect you to be following markers, I find that it improves the game immensely.

Its doable, but its weird. You have to aim lower then the target to hit them. Lower then their feet at times. (Referencing the arrow tip as the cross hair)

I'd be confused, as many quests don't tell you where to go or who to kill.

You can still use the world map to locate people, and the local map therein.

Its just there is no compass or health bars while actually playing. So you don't get that feeling of being led by the nose.
I found it takes a long time to run across the map without the compass. The mountains really do become disorientating.

I use iHud and disables some things. Crosshair is active when fighting, no health visible on enemy which makes things a lot thougher. Specially when you face a giant frost bite spider in the wild and doesn't realize the mistake of attacking it at level 23... Map is used for direction and sometimes compass if I feel like having easy mode access to unexplored places. I find the whole lack of hud to be unusual and a lot more immersive as exploring really needs you to actively look for things.

(( I really don't see how this provides any more immersion, do you think I spend my whole time with my eyes fixed on my health / stamina / magicka bars? No, I don't. Nor do I pay enough enough attention to the crosshair, stranger yet I still enjoy the game. ))

The game world just feels different without all that stuff on the screen. When the wolves howl you don't know where they are. Sneaking is useful, because the character isn't psychic and can tell where enemies are before they've been spotted.

You pay more attention to fights, as you cannot tell when you're near death until the sound effect starts.Which really isn't much time at all.

It just makes the game seem more... edgy.

I wouldn't do that in a million years...

But it's always nice to explore new features

I do to, but its not a frustrating kind of lost. Its weird.

It makes you really concentrate on the world around you, rather then just the compass.

(( I'm sorry, all what stuff? You mean the tiny black bar at the top, your relative power bar, depending on whether your expending / replenishing etc that only shows when you use that said energy? The tiny cross hair that blends into the background nicely? I love to play a hardcoe approach guys but come on..... you really think turning off your HUD makes you hardcoe? ))

I'd love to be able to turn off the compass. I could live without the H/M/S bars. But I don't see how you people can play without being able to identify things in the world. Especially things like stolen goods or just pick up a berry instead of the whole platter/bowl. What about NPC names and doors to homes? You should be able to turn each HUD aspect off individually.

Who said anything about it being hardcoe?

I simply said it changes the feel of the game... And for me, it does. Drastically.

Makes you think twice about randomly doing things. I get your point, some stuff is a bit annoying but then allot of other things in the game are annoying.

Well your post kind of had a derogatory tone to it. So it was replied to in kind.
You really started it :P

Sounds very cool for adventuring, but I feel like I'd be in dire need of the crosshairs.

You really need to give it a good chance though. I guarantee you'll hate it for a while to start with, It really does make you feel like a tiny little man in a big big world.
