iFPSClamp=60

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 12:28 am

I shall clarify. My post was a tad rushed.

Setting iFPSClamp=60 in Fallout_default.ini will make it stick, due to the launcher writing your Fallout.ini with that value every time.

In the same fashion, you can also set iPresentInterval to 0 in Fallout_default.ini to turn vsync off, something which is now (accidentally?) forced on with this latest update.

Do I just copy and paste those cmds anywhere is the Fallout_ini? I see one under [camera path] "ifps=60" <----- is this what I change, but add the "iFPSClamp=60" ?

Browse to your Fallout New Vegas installation directory. That's either your \Steam\steamapps\\Fallout New Vegas folder, or C:\Program Files\Fallout New Vegas or wherever you installed it. That is where you will find Fallout_default.ini which contains iFPSClamp=0. Set it to iFPSClamp=60 and run the game via the launcher.

I GET SLOW MO IN OBLIVON , FALLOUT 3 AND VEGAS WITH IFPSCLAMP!

Same here.

I actually decided to go back and play with my settings, once again. I've managed to maintain it at 60 FPS with V-Sync on and iFPSclamp=60 98% of the time but it still goes into the 40's on some transitions but comes right back up again. I see the odd 57 FPS "flicker" here and there to but it's down and up pretty quick. This is running around Goodsprings and nearby area. It may be worse elsewhere but I have not played much past there. I love that the frame skip is gone and everything passes by smoothly, but hate the jaggies. My speed is what it should be and my character looks normal while running to.

Settings used:

1920x1200
Ultra
No AA
15 AF
None instead of bloom or HDR
V-Sync on

Doesn't setting ifpsclamp=60 disable frameskipping or lock it to a certain value and cause slowdown???
I know it t definitely slows down my gamespeed (not smoothness) when i drop to even 50 fps....

I think the proper way really should be to set ifpsclamp=0 (automatic frame skip) if you are using the dll fix as you get proper gamespeed/frameskip that way!!

Well, it works! This site is so awesome! Thank you!

I even got to turn on shadows. I can't however, use any special effects, like HDR or Bloom. I know eventually there will be a fix for this. However, I am running on a rather minimum GFX (1500M) card so I am aware I am fortunate. I am about xbox360 graphics I suppose. :)

I just added iFPSClamp=85 to my fallout_default.ini in my game directory (steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\) and enabled v-synch and everybody is in slow motion now... not with a terrible framerate. It's smooth, but everything is animated so slowly. Taking that right out.

Best explanation so far of how iFPSClamp works!!

Ceano, on Jun 5 2009, 01:19 AM, said:
Well i don't recommend to use the iFPSClamp tweak, this is what it does...

iFPSClamp=0 - This variable appears to control the synchronization between game physics and graphics, or something similar of that nature. By default it's set so that they're synchronized (=0), however this is known to cause 'micro-stuttering', or more aptly, frame skipping - see the Troubleshooting Tips section for a discussion of this and some solutions. The skipping seems to occur because certain frames are dropped to keep up with the physics tic rate. In any case by setting this variable to =60 for example, you can remove micro-stuttering, however in places where your framerate is below 60FPS the game physics will slow down, and in places where your FPS rises above the iFPSClamp value, the game physics will speed up. For that reason it is recommended that you do not alter this from its normal value of =0

It seems (for me) that the lip-syncing goes out of sync (the lips move faster than the text is spoken) when changing the iFPSClamp setting.

I found the Fallout_Default.ini file which can be edited and updates the Fallout.ini file thanks for that.

It seems when I set the FPSClamp=60 gameplay slows down during fights so I set it back to =0 and it's normal again.

Other notable tweaks from previous games ( FO3, Oblivion) include:
bActorLookWithHavok=1
bUseThreadedBlood=1
bUseThreadedMorpher=1
iPreloadSizeLimit=78643200
bUseHardDriveCache=1
bUseThreadedAI=1

bHighQuality20Lighting=1
bAllow30Shaders=1

I changed these and shot up Novak a couple of times. There's no in game FPS meter, that I know of (~TDT doesn't apper to be a meter in this game) so I'll have to get the Fraps App to check. Seemed ok though while in game.

I can only hope.

ifpsclamp makes the game SO smooth it's amazing, but then you get the Matrix slow down and it svcks :|

There must be a fix for this surely

Yes, a framerate limiter does the trick but for some reason fpslimiter and Tommnisystems doesn't want to work with new vegas. They worked fine with Oblivion and New Vegas. D3DOverrider doesn't even work with this game. I cant think of one game where D3DOverrider doesn't work.

Hi guys i don't know what exactly d3d9.dll does exactly but it's working like a double edged sword for me. iFPSClamp=60 doesn't seem to change the fact, too, that although i don't lag when viewing npcs anymore, i stutter SEVERELY when i turn/move while looking at them, dead OR alive. I don't even need to have line of sight of them, and this makes combat completely impossible when moving. Being unable to even look a gecko in the eye without not mini-stuttering but mini-hanging is simply frustrating.

Oh and as a side note, my graphics card is a 9800GTX+. I have scoured through these forums and have yet to see someone with the same problem as mine. I'd rather play with the lag then with hanging.

FPS Limiter along with iFPSclamp works if you use an unencrypted .exe. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1123956-fps-limiter-works-now/
Also, you can set iFPSclamp to whatever framerate your game averages the most ie: 48 as long as you set the same fps in Frame Limiter.
