iFPSClamp=60

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 10:24 pm

For Vsync users, this setting is just amazing.

I did the d3d9 fix, and made FFDShow exceptions, but still have an annoying microstuttering.

Added iFPSClamp=60 to my config, and WOW, game is so smooth it's unbelievable.

My guess is, without this setting, even with Vsync the game is trying to render above 60 FPS then not due to Vsync, causing stutter, whereas this setting completely locks it.

Wait til you hit a 20 FPS drop area, do you like slo-mo?

If you can lock your FPS at 60 at all times, it would be perfect but transition loads always drop me into the 40's and my character slows down.

Get the INI to save by updateing the INI in the game folder to.

I tried this and it did not work for me.

I had to delete the falloutprefs.ini in "wherever"\Steam\userdata\"unique 8 digit number"\22380\remote (I also have Steam in offline mode, and Steam Cloud off. Though I do not know if either matters.)

Then edit the falloutprefs.ini in My Documents\My Games\FalloutNV

P.S.

Oh yeah, and you may have to go to proprieties and make falloutprefs.ini not read only.

I tried what you said but the MyDocs file didn't change, however the Yadda/file is still the same as edited.

The file you need to edit is the one in the Steam New Vegas folder.

You will know it works, because the Read Only file in the My Documents/Games folder will update after running New Vegas

I've tried that before...

If I edit the /Stemeam/yadda/*.ini and delete the currents do you think it would replace with the edits?

If I edit the Yadda/Prefs and copy it to MyDocs it persists. Do I need to delete my F.ini to get it to work?

...sorry. The file you suggest to edit has no effect on the working .ini's

it saved the Prefs.ini though... in the edited form. F.ini is unchanged...

should I delete F.ini?

no... that doesn't work. F.ini is still the same from FPrfes.ini.

is there a master F.ini file?

This is a well known issue with Bethesda's modifications to Gamebryo, ultimately the engine ticks over at 64hz and most of our screens run at 60hz, I'm looking forward to a New Vegas Script Extender and Skyranger's Stutter Remover plugin, assuming he makes it, I hope he does.

I wonder if the FPSLimiter floating around the internet would work? You can manually force a specific FPS using either a .jar file or just creating a .bat file yourself (It's well documented.) I don't have access to it now, as I am at work. Anyone want to give it a shot?

After further testing, this option causes really bad slow motions in some situations.

Any bypass?

The slo-mo is due to something else specific to new vegas. This ini mod is what makes FO3 work for me & with none of the slow-down.

I am curious as well as to what that would be. The iFPSClamp 'fix' gives me terrible slowdown on my system as well.

I have the box version, did not buy from steam. I do have some shutter still. The .dll file worked great for me. I have 2 Fallout configurations. 1)Falloutpref.ini 2)Fallout.ini

Do I just add "iFPSClamp=60" anywhere in the Falloutpref.ini? I would like to try this out.

SOLUTION: Modify Fallout_default.ini in your INSTALL DIRECTORY (.../Fallout New Vegas/).

The launcher will then write your Fallout.ini with that value every time and all will be good!

Also fixes the forced VSYNC introduced by latest update if you set iPresentInterval = 0 in Fallout_default.ini!

Spread the word, and have fun.

I am a bit confused about this tweak. Does it set the Vsync off or something?

I shall clarify. My post was a tad rushed.

Setting iFPSClamp=60 in Fallout_default.ini will make it stick, due to the launcher writing your Fallout.ini with that value every time.

In the same fashion, you can also set iPresentInterval to 0 in Fallout_default.ini to turn vsync off, something which is now (accidentally?) forced on with this latest update.
