[SPOILER] Imperials are such bastards

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 2:57 pm

But in the beginning
Spoiler
an Imperial captain orders your execution, after a Nord feels sorry for the player and wants to release him. I'd assume this would happen even if you're an Imperial. Plus you're forced to kill a good bit of Imperial soldiers in a cave immediately after.
Wow! Really?!
I didn't see THAT part. Bummer.
Will it ever show up again?

I'm guessing it depends. You could go with either the Soldier or the Rebel, so you probably wouldn't have to kill the Imperial Soldiers had you went with him.

When they figured out you aren't with the stormcloaks, they sent you to your execution anyway. Nice job breaking it lady imperial captain, you have just earned the ire of a soon-to-be Demigod and condemned every last member of your organization to death.

PS: Totally going to do a player.additem 192 1

The Imperials are Roman, they've united the known world together and brought forth a new age of advancement and law. They aren't nice guys but it's better than the alternative of bandits and warring kingdoms. Their dominance and devotion to law is probably the reason why they are usually on the right side of the conflict, not because they're inherently good. That said most of the time it's everyone versus an insane death god, so now is not the time to be picky and hold grudges unless you like the idea of living in hell.

To better illustrate (just replace Roman with Empire):

Think we'll have a mini-conflict between the Stormcloaks, Cloakstorms, and People's Front of Skyrim? ;)

"Are you the Stormcloaks?"
"**** off!"
"What?"
"Stormcloaks(derisively), we're the Cloakstorms!"

I'm going to be joining the Imperial Legion as soon as possible. I'm almost certain that the Rebels will be portrayed as the "good guys", but I'm seriously bored of being a rebel against the authority who always so often looks and operates in a much better way. I don't like hit-and-run tactics, I have been a rebel in Fallout 3 and RAGE, and in both of those games (I know they are very different from Skyrim) I would have much preferred joining the authorities. (Enclave and The Authority)

This time, I'm finally getting a chance to side with the authorities to fight the rebels instead of being forced to be a rebel, so I say it's time to stop fighting guerrilla warfare and start fighting like a soldier! :gun:

Although I think I posted it in the wrong thread...it was supposed to be posted in the "Will you join..." thread. Oh well, since it's still about Imperials vs Stormcloaks I guess it isn't off topic.

Seeing as my Oblivion character was a decent Imperial noble who helped everyone, I'm going to reserve judgement until I see otherwise.

Didnt Alduins wall dictate that the dragonborn would settle the civil war, and stop alduin?

Dragonborn Dragonborn
by his honour is sworn
to keep evil forever at bay
and the fiercest foes rout
when they hear triumph's shout

Dragonborn for your blessing we pray
and the scrolls have foretold
of black wings in the cold
that when brothers wage war come unfurled
Alduin bane of kings
ancient shadow unbound
with a hunger to swallow the world

I want to be a good guy on the "Good Team"!
*snip
I need a little push!

Very well, I'll push you. :poke:

If you want to know which "team" is the "Good Team", you'll have to look deep inside yourself and figure out what you think governments should be all about.

For example, if you think peace and prosperity is what life is all about, and if you think that the government's role should be to provide this, then you will probably tend to be a person who sees vast empires as a great solution to life's ills. In that case, you'd probably want to side with the Imperials. You would have made a great Roman.

However, perhaps you think there is more to life than peace and prosperity, especially if these come at the price of the assimilation of cultures. If you view the Roman Empire as being more like the Borg, then perhaps you might prefer to side with the Stormcloaks. If you look in on the ancient Romans and see people who have been lulled to sleep by "bread and circuses", people who are quite content to be fat, dumb and happy, and if this sickens you and you dread becoming this way...

...then I say to you, arise, son of Skyrim! Stand up! Join us and stand up against the whitewashing Imperials and may tyranny stand no longer! The Imperials will not crush us out of existence. We are here, and if we can find the courage in our hearts to stand against them, we will find that we are strong! We CAN defeat the Empire!

We Stormcloaks have been around for millennia. We are the ones who brought about the fall of Egypt. Babylon fell because we decided it should be so. We fought with Alexander's ragtag band when he toppled the Persians from their high horse. We were the Visigoths who sacked Rome. They built walls across England and China to keep us at bay...

But walls are built to come down, and the walls of this Empire are brittle indeed. All across this world of ours, our dream lives on. Why? Because it can never die. As long as there are people, there will be those of us who have the courage to take a stand, a stand for LIFE. Come with us and drink of life to the full, breathing the clean air of freedom - or else be seduced to sleepy slavery, serving the man who thinks he's a god. The choice is yours because it MUST be yours. Don't let anyone make it for you. But choose soon - you are running out of time.

"I never knew what life was...till it passed over my lips in a red gush..." Come with us and drink the blood of the Empire - and LIVE!

My thoughts on the situation:

Spoiler
This is not the Septim Empire from the previous games.. this is now the Mede Empire (sp). You hear some of the prisoners on the wagon talking about seeing Thalmor Agents among the Imperial Guards as you enter the city. This is important to note because the Thalmor (Aldmeri Dominion) hate humans. Having the new Cyrodillic Empire as a puppet of the Aldmeri Dominion would allow for the High Elves of Summerset to oppress the human Nords of Skyrim under the radar.

If the new empire is truly a puppet state, then this would help explain why the Talos Cult is now illegal. Notice when the priest begins the prayer before the execution, she refers to "The Eight" as opposed to "The Nine". The ninth God was Talos (Tiber Septim - First Emperor of the Septim Bloodline). The Thalmor hated the Septims and having Tiber Septim raised to God-status is a slap across their face. Having the Mede Empire ban this practice would be a high priority on their list.

Now, with this being understood, it is very difficult for me to want to help the Legion (at least as a Nord; I am curious to see how the dialogue changes depending on a race other than Nord), though I did see that there was an option to follow the Rebel or the Legionnaire in an attempt to escape the city.

Definitely curious to see how the story plays out. Interesting characters, environment, and overall atmosphere right from the start! :)

Which is why ill go stormcloak. Defeat the dragons and give imperials a good kick in the ass. Everything about imperials just tick me off. They have no reason to be high and mighty. They didn't unite the kingdoms, one powerful imperial dragonborn did and even he used treachery to get the throne. They make lots of laws but like to cross the line themselves but when others do they are sure to judge, they try to enforce their gods as if just because they are imperial the sun shines out their ass and they are correct. That's why they are getting their asses handed to them by the altmer and soon by the nords

And he or his heirs aren't even on the throne anymore, other provinces have been seceding, etc. It's high time that a true dragonborn fixes the empire again.

Actually, I'm starting to think that the Stormcloaks are actually trying to reform the Empire back to how it was prior to the beginning of the 4E (after they put their man on the throne for High King of Skyrim that is). I can see the Blades being in this game and working covertly with the Stormcloaks for the good of a future Tamrielic Empire. I'd argue that the Stormcloaks are not entirely anti-Imperial (racially and/or politically), just anti the current Thalmor-influenced Mede Empire. As far as the Thalmor are concerned, if they can use their puppet Mede Empire to enforce its laws upon Skyrim, getting their own puppet to be placed as High King, then their influence will dominate most of Tamriel, let alone the strongest human nations on the continent, something they most definitely want :)

In Morrowind you are a prisoner of the Imperials, then they drag you away from everything you know and love to a whole new country ( to Morrowind ) , give you a few gold peaces and send you to be a blades errands-boy.

Considering that the blades are essentially a imperial secret police my character wanted to kill them not work for them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Oblivion the Imperials keep you in a prison so bad they don't even bother to remove the dead from the cells.
But in the tutorial mission everybody from the emperor to his guard act like you would gladly do whatever they ask including defending the emperor with your life.

Hardly, i would be more likely to join the assassins at that point.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Skyrim
Spoiler
the same thing , start in a Imperial prison (and waiting for an execution no less )and the only one who is actually nice to you is a anti Imperial rebel.
and you still end up working for the Blades ( more or less ).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now i understand that we need a group ( faction ) that guilds you thru the story and tells you what to do but why does that group has to be Imperials or their creepy secret police , the blades.

To make it even worse , if you refuse or just kill them you are condemning the entire world and of-course yourself to death. :banghead:

The irony in this is that some people don't like the Dark Brotherhood because they are "evil" ( but they do treat the player with respect )
while the Imperials end up being the "good guys".
What to you folks think ?

I`m with the Rebels all the way. My Nord follows Ulric to Freedom and liberate Skyrim from the Imperial Scum.
I also loved Buliwyf from the 13th warrior..so having Ulric played by that actor is awesome :D

And who is to say that Ulfric Stormcloak will be any different than the Empire? He'll probably end up becoming another tyrant just as bad if not worse than the Empire. 'Meet the new boss same as the old boss.' You know what? To the nine hells with both of them.

If my Dragonborn had his way, he would use the rebels to destroy the Imperials and destroy the weakened rebels in turn, claiming all Skyrim for himself.

I'm siding with the Stormcloaks on this one.

Spoiler

As previously stated in other posts that the Thalmor are among Imperials, it made me change my mind about the Imperials. It's not only that, it's also because they think they're the most dominate of all Cyrodiil and they have a really bad attitude.
