Imperials' connection to the Thalmor [SPOILERS]

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:59 pm

I'm sure the new Empire banned Tiber Septim and outlawed the Blades because of their connection to the Septims. They don't want people to worship the Septims because they want to be recognised as the new rulers and not constantly be under the shadow of a previous dynasty.

Still, banning a cult around a dragon god is not necessarily the best course of action. It'd be like if all the European countries had banned the Catholic Church after they went from "emperor by god's grace" to "democratically elected parliament".

So if the Thalmor are with the Empire, do they not have much land on their own? What provinces does the Empire control and the Thalmor control?

I'm feeling very torn now. I'm curious as to how I'll be able to support the Empire in a good playthrough now, something I really wanted to do. They aren't portrayed very positively in the intro, while the Stormcloaks seem reasonable and sympathetic. I really hope there's more to it than a Star Wars rehash.

The only thing that gives me hope is
Spoiler
the fact that it looked like you could turn to either the Imperials or the Stormcloaks to help you escape the attack. Still, it seems to make no logical sense for an unbiased party to join with the Imperials.

Now, the Thalmor helping the Empire is not necessarily not in the best interests of the Empire. If the Thalmor can be used as allies and they serve their purpose, they would be helping the Empire and that would be good for the Empire, so long as he Empire makes sure they don't sabotage them or anything.
Your reasoning has merits but you've to consider that without an heir to the Septim empire, whoever wishes to achieve power needs some sort of legitimacy. The empire is falling apart, distrust among the races is rampant. The old empire was respected so anybody who wishes to restore it needs to give an image continuity. It's stupid to antagonize a part of the legion and many people who trusted the old rulers just for ego.

If the high king of Skyrim had not been killed there would have been tranquillity in Skyrim. No civil war

Will you side with someone who desires and instigates civil conflict?

In one of the recent leaked videos, while being taken into the Imperial fort, it was mentioned by a Stormcloak that "The Thalmor are here" and that they might be connected with the current events. Could this mean that the Imperials are allied with the Thalmor? I am almost certainly not going to side with the Imperials if it is true.
This is not the place to discuss leaked content :nono:
