You can't. It's a different story in a different place.

That's true! In games like Mass Effect you can import because the story and the character is the same! But in fallout 3 you were Lone Wanderer and in NV you are a courier and you can't import your Lone as the courier

Jeah I understand that, but it would be nice if you can transfer your xp points from fallout 3.

Has It been confirmed that there isn't going to be that option?
Dunno. There's been other topics on it, and truthfully, I couldn't care less. If it's there, I'm not using it.

Would it? I love building up new characters and starting anew. I HATE being a demi-god walking along crappy enemies.

No it wouldn't. It'd defeat the whole "starting over" thing. And weaken the survival-in-the-wasteland thing, by giving you more starting power.

Carry-over works fine in multi-part series that involve the same character. It has no place in non-connected games.

I blame Mass Effect 2 for these threads.

What would be the point in starting a brand new game at top level stuffed with perks and top of the line armor and weapons?
Congrats, you're a god, again.

I don't understand why people get so attached to their fallout 3 characters that it's impossible to even think of creating a new one for New Vegas.

For most people the Courier will be a separate entity from the Lone Wanderer. I've read that some people are going to imagine that their characters are the Lone Wanderer and they traveled west for whatever reason and that's fine since the Courier is a blank slate, but this isn't the intent of the developers so there will be no import function.

All Fallout games feature stand alone stories with new protagonists. Fallout as a whole isn't about one character going on epic adventure after epic adventure like Baldur's Gate and Mass Effect; it's about different characters and their stories in the wasteland. Fallout was the Vault Dweller's story, Fallout 2 was the Chosen One's story, Tactics was the Warrior's story, Fallout 3 was the Lone Wanderer's story and New Vegas will be the Courier's story. Based on this it makes absolutely no sense for the Courier to be able to start out the game as a level 30 God; like all of the other characters at the beginning of their stories he or she is just an average joe who is forced into a dire situation. It would require a lot of extra and unnecessary work to balance the entire game for a character that is level 30 right from the get go. It's more practical to start from scratch.

No, in Mass Effect 2 you can import the whole characters and choices but there is just a little XP and money for you that game's beginning would be easier and you play it just like Mass Effect 1! But the important thing for Bioware was your choices to make your own story with these saves! but we don't need anything like that because there weren't any important choices in Fallout 3 except healing water thing that I think for that, far distance between these to places can be a good reason to cover it!

Well yeah, no one in Vegas would know let alone care about what's going on in the Capital Wasteland. Most of them probably don't even know the Capital Wasteland exists. I doubt the whole Purifier scenario will be mentioned at all in New Vegas.

I think it's long been confirmed that you won't be able to do any such thing. New game, new character.

Plus there's the whole removal of Big Guns skill and the addition of Survival as well as the Damage Resistance system getting replaced by Damage Threshold.

You cannot carry over gear or XP. You cannot carry anything over.... The character gen will be the same, so you're welcome to make your FO3 character again.

Well I actually hope for a DLC that is non-canon which brings a small shop in the middle of nowhere that has all the unique weapons and armors in fallout 3 that make no sense to have in New Vegas lore-wise.
Cause there are some weapons I will really miss.
(And I can't play fallout 3 anymore, I've played it too much, It's not fun anymore. :( )

How do you know it won't be in New Vegas?

Also, how would it not be game breaking to start the game out with a Gauss rifle?

You realize there ware Gauss Weapons before FO3 right? http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/M72_Gauss_Rifle#M72_Gauss_Rifle from Fallout 2 and http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/PPK12_Gauss_pistol_%28Fallout_2%29 also from FO2 so its not like FO3 invented Gauss weaponry, So there is still a very strong possibility we'll be getting some Gauss weapons. :tops:

About the same way it wouldn't be game-breaking to import a level 30 uber-character into a game designed to be started at level 1? :D
