An important, desperate question for Gstaff or Bethesda PR o

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 2:08 am

I'm about to (try) to tweet to the devs. If not I'll leave Gstaff and some others some messages to hopefully get clarification on this. Because that would make my 2012 if you guys gave us Quicksaves. Just sayin'!

What about inventory sorting? Inventory is a huge mess in Skyrim, like in chests that you store things in. They aren't even categorized or alphabetized. Having a box with 200 items in it makes It difficult to find something, even if I do know what I'm looking for.

Do you have to actually say the words of the shout for it to work on Kinect?

Because if I had Skyrim on PC with a mic mod, I'd likely just make a lazy farting sound with my mouth in order to shout.
I was under the impression that you didn't even need to equip it. Just say whatever shout you have unlocked and it uses it. If not what would be the point of having to talk? Talking is such a chore... Silence now....

I can see that just being a built-in for sure IMO. Wouldn't make sense to not let people who DON'T have Kinect not make use of this. Same goes for quicksaves.

I'm thinking they might be new features added into the game with 1.6 like how we got the killcams/new water/etc.

But I just want to make 100% sure, it's eating me up inside lol..

You notice how there is no outrage among PC users over this feature? When we PC users got a (broken) high-res texture pack and (broken) beta patch, the Xbox crowd went ape [censored] with jealousy.
PC users have had this ability from day one. With a simple headset and some software, we can do the same exact thing, for next to no cost.

That's because with all kinds of great mods, some silly voice commands aren't really that appealing. As for the patch, we weren't specifically jealous (not myself anyway) of your buggy patch, just eager to have it finalized and released. Negative attitude was much more directed towards Bethesda (not that it was a good thing) for the delay rather than towards PC users getting a bugged beta patch.

Dude, they weren't releasing it as fast BECAUSE of all the bugs! Basically every PC user beta tested it for you after it was officially released, even though they do have a real beta testing of the patches via Steam... I wrote that in every damn thread on the topic and they were still coming like the Gestapo in Nazi Germany.

Well, PC has the Thuu'mic mod. Has done for a while now.

Well it doesn't have as many features as the Kinect patch gets. I personally don't much care for shouts but the companion and inventory commands would be freaking nice. I just hope the modders get their hand on the necessary coding for those in order to make the Thuu'mic mod on par with the Kinect patch (*wink* *wink* Bethesda, give it to them!).

There is no big outrage, but a small one (from me for example), because for the PC it would be as simple as implementing the Thuu'mic into a patch or giving the necessary scripts for the features the Kinect patch gets, which aren't already in the mod, to the modders, while for the Kinect it's as simple as using the features it offers.

I asked Gstaff about quicksaves/inventory sorting/etc. This is what I got:

New features in the Kinect trailer (new sorting options, quick save, etc) are features specific to the Kinect update.

So then I proceeded to ask him:

Yes, I know this much.

But will we be able to use them in the game for people who don't have a Kinect sensor? Or do we literally need to have the Sensor hooked up just to use them?

If so that's a terrible idea, lol. I don't see why the game in it's current state wouldn't be able to do them w/o the sensor?

The response:

Sorry, It's a required voice command

My new question? Who wants to charge BGS with torches and pitchforks? :)

First: Less scripting by using Kinect (Which is why the PC players need a mod, that opens another program, and the script extender)

Second: Less strain on the hardware and afaik the game is pushing the 360 to its limits even without it. (Which is also why the PC gets a HD-Texture-Pack and the Xbox/PS3 can't support it!)

Will voice commands on the Xbox 360 be Kinect only, or will I be able to use a gaming headset, e.g. Turtle Beaches or Tritons?
The software that does the voice recognition is owned by Microsoft and is built into Kinect, not the game.

Meh  I've lived this long without so not a big deal. Not like I'm running out right now to buy a kinect or anything and I usually only keep high coin items( at least 2000+), and shinnies in my chests and only what I need on my person(in game) so my inventories are never too full.

Yes. You'll be able to use your voice commands if you use your Turtle Beach headset (if it's anything like ME3, that is... and I'm assuming it will be).

That depends.

If they mean Kinect integration as in - We are hooking our game into Kinect, then no, you will need Kinect.

However if they mean - We are building Kinect into the game, then yes anyone whether you have Kinect or not will be able to use voice commands.

Yeah, that's what I meant. You'll need the Kinect, but you won't need to shout at it from across the room. If you have it, you'll be able to launch your voice commands from a microphone.
