My impressions so far....

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 7:54 pm

The fights that i had, it only happened sometimes, the executions that is. So that's a good thing, they didn't overdo it. Snow and rain i haven't seen yet, and i haven't used the bow that much yet, but i doubt there's finishing moves for it. You can however attack with the bow it seems, kinda like the shield bash.

Two more of my character. [censored] i am LOVING this game. I'll make sure to get on twitter today or tomorrow and simply flat out congratulate Pete Hines (for everyone in Bethesda) on this game, seriously!!!

Before i get any accusations about a leaked copy and what not, i received my copy of Skyrim in my mailbox today, Xbox 360 version.

Skyrim game

Well so far its been nothing but awesome.

Looks absolutely awesome to be honest, i'm not trying to exeggerate. But after the many negative comments on the leaked footage last week(especially on other forums/sites, i was expecting dissapointing graphics. But i see nothing but awesome graphics, i'm in a dungeon now and it looks great. Almost as if there's bumpmapping on the walls, the textures look great and there are also environmental effects, looks sweet!!!! Sure....if you get extremely close to some walls, you can see it gets a bit low-res, but honestly...i think if i'd do that with any game, that would be the case.

Nice little details like when i found a book and i grabbed it, it flapped open. Loading times so far are very short, i had to reload in this dungeon and it was incredibly fast. Much much better than Oblivion. There have been people that claimed it didn't look that better or didn't run any better than Oblivion. I can only say that they have NO idea what they are talking about. It looks WORLDS better than Oblivion and in terms of performance it's absolutely fine so far. Remember how badly optimized Oblivion was on Xbox 360? None of that. My character is an Argonian and i think i will keep it like that, he looks awesome.

I made this thread for people who don't have the game yet, i hope they can apreciate this. I can only be happy with the game. Maybe people have questions, and i can try to answer them, as long as it doesn't have to do with any quest things or things that require me to travel an awful lot. Won't be possible for me, cause i take things REAAAAAAAL slowly in games like this. :) But if anyone wants a screenshot of something (that isn't spoiler-ific) i'll do that, no prob.

awesome!! thanks for the great impressions :)

I've spent almost the whole day at work, unpacking, pricing and preparing skyrim for the shop floor... Not allowed to take one home early... Just have to keep looking at those burlap maps... oh yea... weird thing, all the maps I've seen even on un-preordered games have an odd texture - like material. Not just glossy paper like oblivion. rough, criss crossy, dirty looking leathery style stuff.

I got through about 100 copies of skyrim today... It hurt SO bad. It was like giving everyone a gift at christmas, knowing what the gifts are but not being allowed ot touch them even though you actually want it sooooo baaddd.

ouch lol!! i feel you bro!! not long now!! :D

Archery to me feels very similar to Oblivion, maybe a bit more 'realistic' i guess though. I thought there were only 3rd person executions? Well i just had my first, first person execution on a bear!!

Seriously - console users everywhere are playing.

Just unlock it on Steam now instead of punishing digital distribution/steamworks.

THIS!

Seriously. The street date has been busted wide open and the consolers are enjoying it (as well as are many pirates I imagine). Yet those of us who ordered through Gamestop or Steam, and all PC players, are stuck waiting another 24 to 48 hours (more in some cases). It would be really awesome if someone from Bethesda would give the go ahead to unlock on Steam and let Gamestop give out their pre-orders. I know one of the employees at my local Gamestop and he's already told me they in-fact got their shipment today but can't give them out yet, and I already got my call from Gamestop's automated service telling me I can pick my copy up tomorrow at midnight.

Since the street date has been broken, why make the rest of us wait in torture?

I've only used Destruction- Flames, basically like a flamethrower, awesome stuff. I just encountered some random bandits and they owned me hard. It seemed like an easy fight cause their health was gone quite quickly...but so was mine, i got owned BAD! Haha.

Does it feel like TES? Remind you of Oblivion or Morrowind?

Do all objects cast shadows, say when you drop them or pick them?

I've noticed that some bandits only need a few hits and a big of flames on them for them to die, others proof much more of a challenge. Right now i keep being owned by three bandits, they really don't hold back.

Oh yes, it's a TES game 100%! But because of the much more realistic and i guess raw graphics, it feels very different too. It really doesn't feel like i'm playing Oblivion , only set in a new world and such, oh no. Which is a GREAT thing.

How's the first dungeon?

The first dungeon was awesome, i encountered all kinds of enemies which i'm not gonna spoil here. Plenty of variety, loving that stuff. Just one dungeon and already more variety than any dungeon in Oblivion.

Do all objects cast shadows, say when you drop them or pick them?

Yes, but they cast a rather low-res shadow, nothing to go completely mad about but it's not incredibly crisp, not that i mind this for a second.

Also, i love the third person now, it's not that i use it an awful lot, but it looks much better than ever before. Really great to just use when traveling. And i agree about the combat now, i've used the axe a few times and a dagger, and hits really do feel like hits, connecting is the right word for it yeah.

Forgot to ask in my last post, but how's the jumping animation? Better than Fallout's, I hope (obviously should be better than OB's non-existent one...)

Thanks for the insight man! That's all I'm hoping about 3rd person, is that it's cool to use while walking around towns and traveling.

Thanks, for answering my question.

And just to confirm, you said that in 3rd person you can rotate the camera freely as long as your weapon is sheathed? Meaning you don't have to hold down another button like pressing and holding the R anolog to rotate the camera as long as you don't have a weapon equipped?

Exactly, but you cannot zoom in this way. If you want to rotate around your character and also zoom in, you must hold the right anolog and move around with left anolog.

Just now i discovered a mine and oh my god, it's so beautiful, i entered it, and you see myst-like effects, making it extra moody and atmospheric, and in this mine as well, lots of variety, man i love this!!!!!!
And those loading times, man i am damn impressed about those.

It's the distributors fault that copies are being shipped early. Not Bethesda's. So it will be unlocked on its scheduled date.

This is EXCELLENT NEWS! I can now fulfill my dream of playing Splinter Cell style 3rd person stealth in the TES world. :ninja:

I don't know why though, but for some reason stealth is not working very well for me yet. For some reason a guard in this mine always sees me, while it's 100% dark, rather annoying cause i'm trying to eliminate them all stealthily, maybe i shouldn't have chosen an Argonian if i want to stealth alot.

Remember heavy armor should make a difference, as well as the material of your shoes/boots if I recall. Maybe he's just an extra alert guard?

Archery feels great, probably alittle more realistic than Skyrim. But i can't give my full impression on it, i haven't used it that much yet. I entered Riverwood. Decided to attack the 'dragon' lady and soon i got attacked by other villagers, thought i'd own them all, boy was i wrong...i was dead in a matter of seconds. Now this is on the master difficulty, so i guess that's pretty normal then, haha.

Todd said that the beginning bows are more like Oblivion, in which the draw time is faster and you have to use more arrows. And then the higher level bows are a lot more realistic, use way less ammo, and have a lot longer draw time. Can't wait to get a Daedric bow :)
