Intel core i3 intel HD Graphics 3000 BEST SETTINGS FOR PERFO

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 7:58 pm

I currently am at level 32 or so, been playing a good while, sometimes for 7 or 8 hours straight and have only had 2 CTDs so far. My frame rate is very good, and everything thing is set to high default, except AA and Anisotrop filtering. I also have shadows set to low but I do not find too much performance gain between low to high on shadows, but I feel there might still be a little, even if very slight. I cannot quote my usually frame rate as I have not used a app to find out yet, or really felt the need, as it almost never slows down enough for me to care. I have vsync ON as I am sure I would I would have huge frame rate jumps inside buildings resulting in the y axis going nuts. I also have the resolution set to 1280 x 720 in the game launcher options.

My specks:

Windows 7 64 bit
intel core i3-2310m 2.1GHz
intel HD graphics 3000
4 gig ram

In graphics settings on the on board HD graphics 3000 gpu, , I have (under 3d settings)

custom clicked,
textures on balanced
anisotropic filtering on application settings
vertex processing on application settings
and vsync ON

In the normal display menu in the graphics 300 gpu, I have color set to 32 bit (might not make too much of a dif, just am keeping it after messing around with this game trying to get it to work)

In the game launcher I have everything set to default on high, but I have AA off and Anisotropic filtering off. Also I have shadows on low. I also have the resolution set to 1280 by 720. Looks fine on my little acer laptop screen.

One last thing, I have sound set to 44100 24 bit quality.

With these settings I am able to play the game enjoyably, enjoy the beautiful graphics, and not be bothered by the crazy y axis at all, as the fps seems constant even in most citys. (not all the time, but it is definitely not game breaking like it was when I was first trying to get this game playable on my laptop). I hope this info might help someone out who might have similar specs as me.

"can u tell me how I swich to HD 3000"

Don't know, it's the only graphics card I got.

"Intel HD... go boy a PC. It doesn't run on Atari2600"

It runs great for me smart ass.

Glad to hear of your success. I will be buying a new laptop next year and am worried about overheating problems with a dedicated card. I travel a lot so a desktop is out of the question. I don't need to play with ultra settings, high with fps tweaks will do just fine.

Don't let the "get a real computer" comments bother you. Lots of kids and emotionally insecure teenagers on these forums.

Disregarding trolls looking to insult instead of being constructive, integrated graphics chips are notoriously slow / feature-thin and unsupported or badly supported in just about everything. So you are actually very fortunate it's working well enough to play and enjoy. That's cool (and damn near unheard of). Maybe that segment is finally getting some attention / quality too.

Mine wasn't a troll. It was an instinctive reaction to the naming of "Intel" and "graphics" in the same sentence.
I'm happy for you that it works, and amazed that it does.
I'm sorry I didn't even read the post :)

I know. Your cool. I was just "instinctively" calling you a smart ass as well, (lol) not really any animosity directed toward you or anything seriously though. To be fair, my i3 is a newer version, with alot better gaming performance when reviewed compared to the older i3's (according to google), and if it is true that this game relies almost entirely on the cpu/verses gpu, than if nothing else this is proof. Seems though I can play most "newish" pc games I want to on this little thing on high/highest settings flawlessly, or it seems like any way. Here are my full specs, it says I have 4 cores but I believe two are emulated and only two are actually physical...:

Not trolling, but are you sure you don't have a dedicated graphics card that you just weren't aware of? I've noticed a lot of people aren't aware of their actual graphic setup.
Also, I've seen it running pretty slow on low settings with an i7 and low-midrange dedicated graphics on a few of my friends' laptops, so I'm a little skeptical.

Wait till next year's Intel Ivy bridge chipset comes out. Tech sites are speculating intel HD graphics chip will be equivalent to a nvidia gt 420m in laptops. Basically 2012 laptops with intel will run all current games on med-high detail settings and all low end discrete graphics solutions will be out of business. Intel has made leaps and bounds in recent years with their onboard graphics chips. Goodbye are the days of intel GMA woes it seems.

The OP's Intel "i" processor is a Sandy Bridge CPU, it has integrated graphics comparable to some low-end dedicated cards.

If the i7 you are referring to is older than Sandy Bridge (AKA it has 3 digits like i7 860 as opposed to the 4 digits on Sandy Bridge ex: i7 2600) then the integrated graphics are much worse.

Im playing on my 360 but gave it a try on my MacBook Pro with Intel 3000. Only made it out of Helgren but the game is running far better than I thought. I'm on default settings (medium) with shadows Low and AA/AF off. Haven't messed too much with the settings. Plays well, only time I get wonky cursor action is in the Tab screen (Menu/Items/Magicka/Map). The cursor gets really slow, not sure why. Playing on native 1200x800.

Not really concerned with super gaming graphics, mainly play on 360 but wanted something for when my wife or son are using the TV. The Intel 3000 is not great but some games play really well on it - Neverwinter Nights 2 plays like trash on it (in OS X, anyway).

"The cursor gets really slow, not sure why. "

Might be the mouse smoothing/acceleration. You can turn it off in the ini file. I wish steam didn't screw up your achievements after messing with the ini though. Just kinda bugs me. Also, make sure to turn off AF in the graphics controller menu too. AA and AF is what kills fps for me mostly. Turning them off almost instantly fixed the fps.

Skyrim runs smoothly on High with Intel HD 3000 graphics?

Wow, the moon is turning blue and hell is getting chilly. Intel has obviously made some changes... never would have thought to hear such a thing. LOL

I find if you keep antialiasing and anisotropic filltering low (say 2-4), reduce shadow detail, you can run everything else pretty high. Works for most fancy graphics games and I honestly don't see any difference.

My girlfriends college gave this computer to my girlfriend for free because she is a veteran under the the G I bill or something similar. The computer guy that set her up said something along the lines of "everything is up to date on the computer and you shouldn't have any problems with anything, except gaming, as the video card isn't that good." MFW it plays all the new pc games out just fine

Same here... I use to play on an Intel Integrated card and I remember struggling to play Oblivion on Low/Medium. It took several mods and tweaks just to make non-fighting scenes playable enough.

Now I'm playing Skyrim on high and I'm loving it! : :tes:

EDIT; Oops, wrong smiley...

I'm well aware what a Sandy Bridge CPU is and of the integrated graphics capabilities of these processors. My friend has an i7 2620M, which barely runs Minecraft and was completely incapable of running Skyrim on integrated graphics. Skyrim runs on low with about 30 FPS with the dedicated graphics (Radeon, I'll find out the model next chance I get).
I have been running on high+ with an i7 2630QM and a GTX460M.
So, my observations of the relative capabilities of these two systems are the foundation of my skepticism. HD 3000 certainly doesn't show well in benchmarks either.

Try right-clicking the desktop. Do you see "PowerXpress", "Switch graphics card", "Switch GPU", or anything else that sounds similar? My laptop has 2 ATI/AMD cards and I can switch between the two via "Configure ATI PowerXpress™". It has a ATI icon, if that helps.

yeah the HD2000 and 3000 (3000 is significantly better) play skyrim fairly well on various level settings..

the hd2000 basically will play medium/high at a low resolution with 30fps or higher under typical considitions...

I hadn't done any tweaking... but

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=forums&module=forums§ion=findpost&pid=19450731

If you run the latest graphics drivers it makes a big boost vs the ones that come from windows update or with whatever prebuilders driver sets like Toshiba or dell or whatever...
