New preview. Some nice information and impressions, no real spoilers either. Also a few interesting screenshots I hadn't seen before.

Since opening another thread seems overkill : http://g4tv.com/games/xbox-360/61733/fallout-new-vegas/articles/71780/Preview-Fallout-New-Vegass-Opening-Hour/.

Putting these in the opening post since I found the previews to be really interesting. Thanks WUE!

When I played Fallout: New Vegas at E3 earlier this year, I got the impression that it was basically more of the same -- there was the same faction-based open-ended gameplay as Bethesda's acclaimed Fallout 3, the same VATS-flavored first-person shooting, and the same dialogue-driven story, albeit in a new setting.

After playing through about the first 90 minutes of New Vegas, however, I think I might have been wrong. I don't think it's exactly the same as its predecessor. I think it might be better.

Well, that's good news. The new screenshots were nice, too.

It seems that both previews are based on some hands-on time with the game at the very beginning rather than a tailor-made demo by Bethesda/Obsidian like at QuakeCon. Interesting.

Decent preview... nothing real new, though.

I still wanna see a previewer that backs up Chris Avellones comments about dying in the wasteland within 60 seconds.... Is hardcoe mode, maybe not available to the previewers?

Interesting bit : Now, from the start, players can combine like weapons and repair them to 100% functionality. If you raise your repair skills in this game you are raising your ability to make better forms of ammo and to slow the degradation of your guns.

It's probably more like 2 or 3 minutes, but locals in Goodsprings warn you that certain directions are very dangerous. Signs at the edge of town reinforce this. If you ignore the signs and march into danger there is no hope for you.

Thanks for these. Pics are cool. That ant looks different and I like the entrance to The Strip.

Say, do you think that the player shown in the screenshot at the top is wearing reinforced leather armor or just a remodeled version of the old leather armor? Either way, it looks great.

Is this because there are tough baddies in the area, or due to other factors the hardcoe mode introduces?

Does this mean that enemies won't scale to your level as much in FO3? That I might actually be unable to accomplish some quests until I'm a higher level, solely because the enemies there are too strong?

Edit: Will it be like FO1/2 where if I wander towards Mariposa/Navarro at level 3, I'll probably get creamed?

If this is the case, I will melt with joy. :P

At the recommendation of the attending developer, I made a turn and walked to a place called Nipton. Here, I was told, I would see how warped the world of New Vegas could be. Weird is right. I found a town taken over by people in wolfskins. Some of the town's citizens were hanging, crucified for uncertain crimes. This wolf gang was too tough for me to fight, but to vile for me to want to leave unscathed.

Werewolves?
No trogs... :(

New Vegas's Primm is surrounded by burned out buildings and razor wire fences, and the city is populated with escaped convicts. They had been members of the Powder Clan.

"Awesome," I think. "I stole a powder gang outfit when I offed those two gang members on the way over. I'll just slip this on, and waltz into town."

Bad idea. The convicts accept me all right, but I hadn't figured on the fact that the Powder Gang was engaged in a high octane firefight with the forces of Law and Order who surround Primm.

So.. Deception skill or can anyone disguise themselves?

It seemed to me like they were actually talking about the Caesar's Legion going by their description...

ummmmm a lot of people thought fallout 3 copied off exactly of the first 2.... thats one reason they didn't buy it... so the guy said it will only attract the same people but, i think it will also atract the other people too..... do you get me???

Maybe, but Caesar's legion didn't seem to wear wolf skins too much in the previews we've seen of them. They're more post-nuclear Romans rather than post-nuclear Huns.

I get you but don't agree... Like the previewer stated, if you didn't like FO3 you probably won't like NV.... Makes sense, really... They aren't changing the kind of things that would have made people stop playing FO3.
I`m sure they`ll pick up some NEW fans, pre-orders would indicate just that, but the gamers that put down FO3 and said, `I`ll never play that again,` aren`t likely gonna come back for NV... Unless they stopped cause FO3 didn`t have a companion wheel.:)

Whoops, added a Kotaku thread before I knew it was linked to this one, that article however does go into greater detail on the games intro so make sure to tag spoilers on that.

It's great that the joystiq editor changed his view on NV since he did a harsh piece on it during E3.

You're right.. mmh.. either they misrepresented them or it's indeed another again that came to the place after the Caesar's Legion burned it to the ground.
.. or maybe they're a splinter faction that separated from the Caesar's Legion.. or..

For as something as lavish as a strip full of casinos that entrance does look rather slummy?
