So... How many are there and where does he get them from?

So far I've bought 5 of them and they're great at my settlements and never hesitate to defend them (the one at Oberland took down a Radscorpion all on his own!). I think Dogmeat has a thing for the girl at Red Rocket. They're always together when he's not with me.

can you get those Junkyard dogs to wear armor? or at least a bandana? I keep shooting them at the farm due to small size and no targeting cue.

Not that I know of, although 3 of the 5 already have bandanas. They do show up as green in VATS though, so I don't really have a problem. Besides, they're inevitably smaller than any invaders anyhow, or, at least, not bi-pedal, of course I'm at level 39 at this point, so my enemies almost never include mole-rats anymore.

I tried to fill a void with one at Red Rocket due to losing Meat. yes, he is just gone now. tried placeatme trick, but it was like a clone of him, no armor, and immediately ran into the sunset never to be seen again

I've found Gene selling one dog at the very beginning of the game, when I didn't had enough money. Never saw him since that encounter. I can only find a Bhramin seller...

Never run in to a Brahmin seller (which seems pretty pointless to me since they inevitably show up anyhow at my settlements and, somehow, my provisioners always acquire them on their own), but I run in to Gene all the time. I even ran in to him outside of Goodneighbor over the weekend! Dude! What are you doing here! There are Sups, Gunners and Raiders all over the place, not to mention Ferals! What, ya got a death wish.

Oh, BTW, thanks for the dog. She'll be very happy at Sunshine.

So I must be looking at the wrong places. I've searched on Red Rocket and some areas near it. I want another dog so badly...

Instead of using placeatme, use player.moveto (or whatever variety of it Fallout 4 uses). That command will port your character to wherever Dogmeat is hiding rather than creating a replica.

Oh! And, if you want a Brahmin (thanks for the correction) just head east of Tempines Bluff, in the train track ahead. Found the woman 5 times... and bought Brahmins just because I didn't find Gene.

I can only tell you that I've run in to him out by the Diner, in Lexington near the Red Rocket, by the Red Rocket in Cambridge, outside Goodneighbor and way out by County Crossing. On my other playthroughs I never ran in to him this often. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Never run in to her, although I've certainly run in to her herds. I'll have to look.

I really like Gene across 3 games I found him twice during my antics. I am now working on my 4rth (2-caps) and low and behold I hit about level 10 (just south of abernathy farm (which is where I sent the dog to) then about level 15 I am actually working on a weapon in red rocket come out of the build thing and bang there he is actually in the garage part with me asking if I want another dog....... heheh ok

I had no idea each dog is quite different when you look at them.. coloration and scarring (you need a few to compare I guess, and there collar's/ bandanna seem random I have normal collar and skull bandanna these two, I had the chain collar ones before)

Kelly on the other hand (brahmin girl) I have only met once and I never did get the cow from her (which may have been my fault this was my first time out.) I really want an extra brahmin for the farm (Not building any beacons this playthrough, and oddly the very first time I rescued a settler I had a I know a place you can live prompt,which might only happen if you have no settlers it was odd.... ehh then again you could fill the board with everything I dont know.....look at that you guys are heh)

(I wanted to add since this is sort of doggie thread, Leaving dogmeat at red rocket as a base is sort of cute because he does the look through the windows thing and if you leave the coolent pumps he stands on hind legs investagating them, but I sent him to the farm because its funny watching them all change dog houses, well to me)

Dogs you buy from Gene and send to your settlements. They're very good at helping to defend and don't count as settlers.

I think it's just because she'll respawn wherever you meet her the first time. For instance I've met her just south of Concord, and since then every other day she'll be there with a new brahmin. I now have 4 of them (and 2 dogs) in my one and only settlement, where I have no settler and no food. Yes this is quiet a waste.

I'll search in those places also. It is possible that Gene have be killed by another NPC (like a Super Mutant or a Feral) and I'm wasting my time searching him?

Don't know. It doesn't say so on the Wiki, but I guess it's a possibility, although, if an unarmed, unarmored buy can make it all the way to Goodneighbor and then all the way out by County Crossing with only a dog and without a scratch, I'd say he was a pretty tough cookie so I doubt he can be randomly killed by anyone but you.

Is there a specific location for Gene? I found him during my first play through, but have been unable to find him with this second play through. It might just be me, since I am a dog-animal lover, but I can't even think about those dogs just randomly wandering the waste land with an owner that doesn't want them. Breaks my heart! I purchased a pit bull looking dog from him during my first run; he was wondering around the woods somewhere and can't remember exactly where that is.

Any help with his location?
