From WTH did you get South African? There isn't even anything closely resembling an Afrikaans accent (a South African language with origins in Dutch).

A number of Guards in game do appear to be Gideon Emery doing something resembling his (native? He did grow up in South Africa) South African accent. It certainly sounds that way.

I don't know who did the voice over of Faringar Secret-Fire, but he's about as Dutch as it gets. I hate him :3

The accents change a good bit from person to person, but there are quite a few Austrian people living in Skyrim;)

It's nice though that not everyone sounds the same.

THIS is a Swedish accent, Bethesda

Kind of irrelevant, isn't it, since there are no Swedes in Skyrim.

Hm. I didn't know that. I'd say Gideon falls into the 'English South African' accent camp, though. 'English South Africans' speak (almost) Queen's English. See here, for instance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hY3O51Wmaz0 (It's basically the way posh Englishmen speak- with a bit of a drawl.)

Afrikaans sounds like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fYB9s0Nyzk (Charlize Theron. Mrrreow. Note that when she goes out of her American accent to speak Afrikaans, it still doesn't really sound like anything you hear in Skyrim ...)

Funny thing. I didn't know he did Fenris' voice- but when I went to listen to it, I could recognise the accent. Must not be as noticeable to those that hear it every day. He was my favourite character in DA2- now I'm wondering whether it was just the accent.

Nords are a fiction. They are based on several ancient races. Players see the word "Nord", they think "norse" and "viking". Great. But they aren't Vikings, they don't have the same outlook, they don't have the same culture, they don't have the same funeral (sorry longknife, notable Vikings were buried in cairns or other structures shaped like ships when they were buried on land, not in barrows and crypts), had a different economical base...didn't have...magic...weren't part of an...empire...and, well, read a book on the vikings sometime.

You are seeing Germanic/Celtic/Norse/Briton/Scandinavian influences here, plus a large dose of fantasy, in the make-believe race of "Nords", not "Viking". Viking's didn't really wear the romantic 'horned helmets' .

Telling the people that made the race up that they need to sound like Swedes is pretty much because you're made your own mind up about how things should be. That doesn't mean that's how things are or should be, that just means that to you, Nords need to be Swedish sounding because you think they are Viking folk. That's an assumption on your part

The funny thing is there are English, Germanic, American, Irish, Welsh and Arabian (I can't tell these apart, sorry, so I don't know what region it's from) accents, and they don't really seem to have rhyme or reason as to where you'll find them. Quite bizarre VO placement overall.

Still far better than anything TES has done before, so I have to give the VA 4/5 ... (-1 for the truly terrible Arny caricatures.)

It's not all that odd when you realize that had Beth made the voices all seem homogenous, people would say "WTF Beth, everybody has the same accent"

If you haven't noticed, there's no winning! :teehee:

All that work he did to improve the gauntlets further was useless, it only adds the base armor value ha. Pretty badass though.

I like the fact that there's a variety of accents in Skyrim, it's cool. If it was all English or all American I'd be kind of miffed.

Then again some people want everyone to be voiced by the English because fantasy = English to them in their minds.

I don't mind that there are different accents- I just wish where we ran into them made more sense. (Also, that there were no Arny parodies.)

Yeah, it's a bit like English humour (probably because a bunch of Vikings ended up in the north of England). I immediately assumed the guy in the video was being satirical.

I have a Swedish friend who's partner is a Scot and she's developed a weird Swedish-Glaswegian hybrid accent. That's what they should have used for the Nords!

Yeah I find it similar to British humour too. Well, I'm Swedish and I find british humour funny....

Yeah, well I mean, Gaelic(cantspell) + Viking = [censored] win.

And yes, I would pay for a DLC where a Viking with his personality existed.

That is so many kinds of awesome... funny has hell. I don't think I have ever laughed at a youtube video ever, but this one made me laugh.

Judging by some of the responses, I think people didn't get the humor in the OP, nor realize how much of Norse lore was included in the game.
