Just got Dragon age 2 from my brother

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 3:40 am

Hm, so, been waiting a loooong time for Skyrim (since announcement) and now apparently, while lurking in my emo room my brothers comes around, says I can borrow his Dragon age 2 copy on PC. I had completely forgot about that game but now I'm super-excited to play it. But if I start playing it I will just disappear in that world and just one day before Skyrim :sadvaultboy:

Is it worth playing? Skyrim can always wait ofc... :disguise:
if you played dragon age 1 do yourself a favor and dont touch 2

The game is [censored] [censored]. Dont even bother if you liked Origins or good RPGs in general. Stay away and avoid a lot of rage.

Its really short though so if you insist youll make it to play it through.

Best idea ever, get Dragon Age I, love Dragon age I, imagine what Dragon Age II could be like, don't get Dragon age II, live with the optimistic 'what could have been', don't live with the disappointment of the year.

Ah...but really, Dragon Age II is absolutely terrible. In no way does it resemble Dragon Age origins, hell even the DAO x-pack was better than Dragon Age II.

I never even finished Dragon Age 1. Dragon Age 2 would probably cause me brain damage.

If you haven't played Dragon Age: Origins, then you might enjoy it.

If you HAVE played DAO, (like me) then you will probably think it's an embarrassment to the series and should be burned and spat on.
i liked DAO but hated number 2 it was so boring and dull

Dragon Age Origins was one of the greatest RPG's of the 2000- 2010 era.

Dragon Age 2 is, simply put, garbage. Literal Garbage. Worst Bioware game ever, one of the worst RPG's of the 2000-2010 era. A complete disgrace to the Dragon Age universe. Don't even bother with it.

Sure, you should be able to beat that game by the time SKyrim comes out.
Really?, that long?

Well, you'll be running through the same city, same dungeons, same stupid beachside. it should take about 2 days.

At first i did all the side quests, until the end of the first chapter when i just...rushed through the game to get to the end as quickly as possible. It was torture, crule and unusual punishment to get a save game. It took me 22hours.

DA2 was a good game. Sure it had its flaws, but overall I liked the characters, dialogue, and storyline. Not a waste of time IMO, but, it's up to you what game you want to mess with first.

Jesus. The hate for that game is unwarranted, I have to say. I don't see what's so bad about it, besides MAYBE the combat being a little over the top. But that was to try to fix the general sluggishness of the XBOX version of DA:O's combat, which wore on my nerves after my first playthrough.

It was a fun game, with far less replay value than Origins. Try it out. You will know whether or not you are into it halfway into the first act (which is 3-5 hours, depending on what you do).

I agree. I think the story and characters pulled me in the most - one of the few games that made me laugh and tear up a little during certain scenes. Whatever the flaws, if the story grabs me like that, it's a winner for me. I don't plan on ever trading it in

You know I recall staying as far away from any Bioware discussion as possible because I'm tired of this DA2 flame war that perpetuates around the game. Take this debate somewhere else, I'm trying to gush over Skyrim.

Agreed it's a good game if you don't expect it to be DA:O2. There is a lot of rage because people felt Bioware deviated too much from what worked in DA:O (which I thought was good, but not outstanding). I don't think any RPG will be worth playing instead of Skyrim, however.

I think the most part is about the Qunari. I'm not going to spoil anything for the ones that has not played yet. And the game repeats itself over and over again. Dialogues are quite good, which makes game tolerable for me.

In both Icewind Dale games and The Witcher I, you are running around the same city like DA 2 as well but DA 2 is nowhere playable near those games. Finish it once, never play again for me.

The story was a nice attempt to do something different but failed entirely. It was full of holes and disconnected me completely from my character. But that wasnt even the biggest fail in the game. Lack of choices and barely any variation in the existing ones, terrible dialogue and dialogue wheel with the same thing in three different tones, railroading in most quests, paraphrases, terrible and recycled environments, lifeless and boring city, over the top and cartoony combat and most everything else, boring fetch quests, two dimensional characters and companions who I couldnt even talk to most of the time, awful combat (waves and sky ninjas for example) and much more.

The thing I liked in DA2 was the qunari and especially the Arishok, who had great writing, but ironically I had to destroy them in the lack of a better choice.

Lesson: You can't say Dragon Age 2 on the internet without the crap. Not even months after it was released. People still troll FF7 for comparison.

I bet a Bioware dev is reading this thread and dying a little inside. :vaultboy:

But seriously, you should have enough time to beat DA2 before Skyrim is released. I disliked the game for many reasons, and I would guess that you won't really like it either.
