I've just learned the horrible truth about "connecting t

My main problem is that most of the stuff we learn after 8th grade has no practical use.
Ok, please return all your 20th and 21st century gadgets at the "math has no practical use" window

Just the other day I used the Pythagorean theorem to prove that the iPad 3 did not meet the pixel density requirement to be considered to have a retina display, and then went on to use trigonometry to prove that pixels per inch and arcseconds per pixel were directly related. All to my pleasure and the dismay of apple [censored]

Edit: Wow, that's completely censored now? Now it looks like I'm swearing them out <_<

Yeah, Algebra graphs are nothing when you're trying to integrate to get the area underneath irregular curvey lines.

Eh, even that isn't too bad, it just gets annoying and tedious sometimes. First/second year university calculus is really just a snoozefest anyway. I'm currently taking a proofs class and find it more interesting, even if it is harder.

Yes. We have robots to do our math for us.

According to my Physical Anthropology teacher we should use our "robots" all the time. She said and I quote "We need to use the tools that this generation has made. Calculators for one are a very useful tool because it does the math for us and lets our brains save energy for more important uses like our reasoning abilities."

She's just mad like all people with an anthro degree because their paycheck is so small they get depressed when doing the math of how little they make

It'd be hard to sign a really small check, I guess.

Perhaps not specifically, but don't underestimate the value of learning rigorous, quantitative reasoning skills.

Aha! The truth has never been more clear.

Seriously though. She is bragging about how she has been teaching fo so long blah blah blah and that she is a part time teacher and has her masters degree and helped edit the textbook that we are reading blah blah blah. Obviously getting a masters degree is better then some other degrees, but it doesn't sound too promising if you have all that experience and can't get a full time job (which she said she's applied for). Whatevs.
