You know those little worksheets you got as a kid, you connected the dots and it made a picture?
Well, I just figured out how horrible it is. I was doing evil graphs in Algebra, and then I relized that connecting the dots is like connecting the points on a graph plain. Those poor kids don't know what's coming to them...lol.

Evil graphs in... algebra? Oh boy, wait until you get to trigonometry and advanced calculus, you'll be having the time of your life. It gets crazy.

Edit: You are refering to middleschool/highschool algebra right? Not college?

I'm in a kinda low level Algebra class right now and am really liking it. I just love graphs for some reason, it's something I enjoyed immensely when making games. We're currently working with systems of equations.

I'm in the Trigonometry section of Pre-Calculus right now and I feel like my brain has been turned to applesauce everyday. :shocking:

We're doing the trig identities right now. I have to memorize 25 formulas by Friday for our test and we just started learning them last Thursday.

Quick! What is the vertical asymptote interval of the equation "3tan(3/4 pi x) + x" when it has its phase shift increased by 2pi?

Close, but I was looking for pi/2.35 or 1.33 . You were almost there though.

That sounds like so much fun!!! :banghead:

Yes, I'm in Algebra 1. The curriculum we use really svcks. It gives terrible examples, and I try to google help with it, but I can't find anything. I've never done so bad in a class before. My average is an 80! It's horrible!

Oh, there are a bunch of shops like those. My local grocery store revives 200 apples every week on a Sunday. On Monday, people actually start buying the apples. Usually on Mondays, 50 apples are sold. Then on Tuesday, 45 apples are sold. Wednesday, 40 apples are sold. For every apple sold, the price goes up by $0.5. Apples start at a price of $0.65 each. I go to that store on Thursdays every week. I buy 10 apples each time. How much does each apple cost, and how much does it cost me each year? I have to figure this out EVERY TIME. MATH IS IMPORTANT.

Yeah, Algebra graphs are nothing when you're trying to integrate to get the area underneath irregular curvey lines.

Graph theory is fun, calculus is maybe even funner.

Yes. We have robots to do our math for us.

Yeah, well how many scifi shows have told us what happens when robots start doing too much for us... they become self aware and try to take over the world!!!

(Terminator, Matrix, Dune, Battlestar Galactica, etc)

I done a maths class that tried to tell me 1+1=3 and not 2, I was having none of it, the idea that 1+1=2 has been cemented in my mind since p1 there is no changing it!

But this really required a thread, I thought it was going to be something a boffin scientist researched. Let down by a thread containing no evil!

Don't worry about it. Just try your hardest to get a good foundation. In middle school I was a complete failure, sub B grades. Now as a junior in high-school last term I got a 4.07 GPA and was just invited to attend a summer program at West Point to study Computer Science/train.
Just worry about getting the basics down and learning the reasoning behind why the graphs look a certain way, not just that they DO look a certain way.

My main problem is that most of the stuff we learn after 8th grade has no practical use.
